McDonough ready to go the distance in Madison

I really hope McD makes the team. I love Ramos but Matt is one of my favorite Hawkeyes ever.

I'm not sure yet who's game is better for freestyle. I'm thinking maybe Matts is. Is love for our world team to be as competitive as possible, so that's how I'll decide who to root for.

I cant root against either of them. when they wrestle each other I do not know what I will think. I sure will be interested though.it will be bittersweet.am really proud of these two to bad they are in each others way.

I like both guys and may the best man win. Always assumed Matt would do better after college days, but then came his injury and surgery, and it seemed hard to imagine coming back after that. He has in spades and that's great to see. Then Tony comes from "back of the pack" and wins the US Open his first year out of college and gets the #1 ranking. Nice to have two stars from Iowa's program.

As far as the transition to FS, I'm no expert, but it seems like Tony has better defense, and doesn't give up his legs as much as McD.

Because of the potential exposure points from a crotch lift, I'm not sure giving up the legs is as much of a problem in freestyle as folkstyle.

While there is the potential for the crotch lift it's importance in freestyle is vastly overstated especially at the high levels. When guys get in on the legs at the highest levels you rarely see and actual lift performed. Mostly just jockeying for position while the shooter tries to keep his hips low.

Matt's opponents have had a tendency to score in bunches against him which is something he needs to limit.

Matt has the same problem that many Hawks have...guys are getting in the legs too easy. This is a trend.
