Thiam dismissed by Rutgers, faces deportation
2:06 PM CT
  • ESPN News Services

Rutgers forward Issa Thiam has been dismissed from the team and faces deportation after his arrest on domestic violence charges.

Thiam, a 22-year-old junior from Dakar, Senegal, is accused of slapping a woman and swinging a knife at her after she refused to give up her cellphone.

According to a probable-cause affidavit obtained by NJ.com, the woman "stated that the defendant threatened to take her life, and made references to previous incidents in which he had used knives to threaten her with serious bodily harm and/or death."

The Asbury Park Press reports his attorney said after Thiam's release from jail Tuesday that his client is "still in shock."

Sciarra said Thiam has "no ill feelings toward Rutgers." He said his client denies threatening the woman with a knife.

Thiam was suspended indefinitely after his arrest Friday and dismissed from the team Monday.

He has been charged with simple assault, false imprisonment and making terroristic threats, among other offenses.

NJ.com reports Rutgers coach Steve Pikiell says the team has had many obstacles this year and that this is another one it will have to fight through.

Thiam has been ordered to surrender his passport. A judge has also barred him from the Rutgers campus.

He is due back in court April 5.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

While can’t make such generalizations; sliver of truth to that post.
Great job. You followed-up the first ignorant Iowa hick post with a more ignorant, racist post. And did so even after saying that one shouldn't generalize! Difficult to do, but you managed it.

God, it sickens me to know that I share a passion for the same team as bigots like you.

Little overreaction on your part. What leads you to be so sure the first post is from an “ignorant Iowa hick”. Little “generalization” on your part isn’t it? Do you even know if poster is from Iowa? Just your assumption? I’m going to “assume” someone with 8,000+ posts and 3 “likes” is likely a rival team poster.

Nope, no overreaction. Bigotry like that needs to be called out.

FYI, it was a generalization...and I'm at peace with it.

I don’t think knifing women is common anywhere in the world. To state that it is in Senegal, even in a joke, is to imply essentially that it is a country full of savages.

And on top of that, he didn’t even do the joke right, making it more unfunny than it already was

Your not wrong, just made your point already I feel
To be totally fair, if you get the point then my post wasn’t directed at and didn’t apply to you, and likely the majority of the board. I was simply responding to somebody who quoted my post

But apologies for being preachy

Hahahahaha

I’ve seen desperate virtue signaling before but, baby....

THAT is some desperate virtue signaling.

Here’s your head pat. - - you’re a good boy who thinks all the right thinks and none of the bad thinks. You’re a much better person than most everyone else around you. Now run along and keep on signaling.

Warnings & Dangers in Senegal
overall-risk.png

OVERALL RISK : HIGH
Generally speaking, Senegal is not the safest country to visit. It has extremely high crime rates, of both violent and petty crime. You should be vigilant and take all possible precaution measures in order to minimize the risk of something wrong happening.

“Violent crime is also something Senegal is notorious for and many tourists have reported being victims of armed robbery at knifepoint.”

Just an FYI on Senegal, racist propaganda with no statistical support I am sure.

OFGS this could easily be a description of New York or New Orleans. There are other sites that describe Senegal as safe for single travelers. Way to throw gasoline in a fire, CID.

Lol no worries, I know but just trying to get us back on track. Giving racist assholes attention is more than they deserve and is probably what they wanted in the first place

i have to take issue with this statement since nyc does not show up as a dangerous city- it is not even listed in the top 100 for dangerous cities in the us or even in the top 10 for the state of new york. it may have been 30 or 40 years ago but not now. however, your general point is well taken since many other countries warn their citizens about coming to the us due to the gun violence.
