Medal Round

Iowa Individual scoring:
Gilman - 21.5 Cooper - 1
Sorensen - 17 Rhoades - 0
Clark - 17 Stoll - 0
Burak - 12.5 [141] - 0
Brooks - 7
Meyer - 6

We had a few holes in the lineup, otherwise we wrestled great. I'm very happy with our guys.
Hate to be a dick, but I am officially off the Brooks' bandwagon. Very disappointed. I know it may just be coincidence, but the OPRF guys over the years just have not been impressive in tournaments. For one of the higher profile high schools in the Midwest, and with their resources, they just haven't done much, imo.
Not doubting the effort, but the results are just not there.

2. Oklahoma St. 89.5
3. Virginia Tech 82.0
4. Iowa 81.0
5. Ohio St. 78.0
Dam that reff in Brooks match cost us 3 team points how can they even review and not see the fall throw the darn review out they don't use it right anyway.grrerr need to calm down

Of course you would
Wrestling great and losing do not go hand in hand. Great?? Maybe so so in a close match. He gave up a late reversal and had no take downs. I would say he had a good backside, but his performance does not exceed expectations and how many times does he just give the leg to start a match? Very frustrating to watch.

Dangit Burak just let it go! Pfarr is taking all th shots and he has the lead

Unbelievable, the one who was losing gets hit with a stall call because Pfarr is doing all the action!

Burak just never figured out you have to be way more active to beat the top guys..

No followup moves on a shot. Tries one shot and then goes back to hand fighting. Last nite with a little more aggression, he could have beaten MM.

Once you hit the consis as a senior... it's a mental game.

Wow. No sense of urgency. Forget bonus points, Curious on our bound pts scored compared to other team. I haven't looked it up but to me that has been the story of the year. We feel good about squeaking out wins in the final minute except for a few. Probably why we are losing in recruiting as well.

For a guy with a muscular build Burak seems to give up strength to people. Mcintosh and the skinny minnesota kid both had their way with him strength wise.

"Hate to be a dick..."
Somehow I doubt that.

Their resources?
They became a high profile midwestern school at the end of Brooks' run there so it's not like you have a long list of kids to form that opinion.

Nice troll job though.

Burak does absolutely nothing in the first period to many times then expects to win it late. He's come along way from his freshman year, but unfortunately he gets tight in big matches and clams up.

Wrong board! You can't be objective so I take your opinion with a grain of salt. Shouldn't you be on the Goof board and lamenting the impressive Minnesota season?

It seems all the coaches have the same approach/mentality. It may serve them better to get a coach on staff with a different style or mentality. ( hello Mark Perry). If that ship has sailed then maybe think outside of the program. Coaching/teaching/recruiting from a different mindset is a positive thing to have on staff. Having all the same mindset I think hurts the programs and everyone is robotic.
Gable was a master of letting his guys wrestle their own styles but getting the maximum out of them. That's what they need. IMO...

VT did their job to let us not get beat by them, and we wet the bed. Going to really need a win from Gilman, as Clark and Sorensen have tall tasks ahead of them.

Well thanks A. Coon for stopping the bleeding and taking it in the mouth to pin Ty Walz in OT. That is the fire and heart I want our guys to have on the backside. Ty was in on the leg and he hulk smashed it free and then got pumped takedown to the back and fall. No additional points for VT there.

Time to get behind our other guys now. TG you need to do to Mega what we all know you can. Clark you have been here before and know how it feels being so close. Send him packing with a second place finish his senior year and do what so many have already written you off on. Need to be smart. BS go for broke. I rather you lose by anything other than a close matching playing it safe. Unlock the beast. He is always so calculated. Do the unthinkable. If there was ever a time to let it all hang out it is now. We are not in a close duel with Penn State. I really hope BS thinks he can win, it is the only way he has a shot. Time to make us forget all the other let down and go 3 for 3.

Well said.

I think Burak is just too slow on his feet and bottom. I could see Burak set up and shoot before it was even coming, he was so heavy on his feet against MM and Phaar. I think his footwork was the difference.

I didn't offer an opinion. Its ok, calm down.
We're venting because Iowa fans expect a little more than what you may be used to. I imagine your presence here indicates that you already see the handwriting on the wall for the next four years of the Gopher program.

I will disagree with you that the whole team wrestles the same. I think TG and CK wrestle very similar, or atleast they did last night. They seem to resemble more of the Iowa wrestling that I remember. But Sorensen does not go forward and attack as much as the first 2...he rides tough but doesn't turn often. Meyer was different than what he was last year...battling weight or his mentality...Brooks wrestles totally different than anyone on his feet...and Burak is slow but powerful...I think I see a bunch of different styles in my opinion.
