(1) Jeff Brohm has outcoached you 2 years in a row. If he returns to PU next year, any ideas on stopping the blowtorch he has applied to your pass coverage with mediocre receivers? As a follow up, ask if maybe it takes two first RD draft picks at CB instead of just one.

(2) Your team has had one of the easiest schedules of P5 teams the past 3 years and plays in one of the weakest divisions, but has been unable to take advantage. Is that just football or do you need to make some coaching or personnel adjustments?

Thanks coach.

Not only are these really bad questions, they are also false.

Mediocre receivers? Uh, no.

But, yes, it's problematic to have to start a true freshman who played high school ball in the CIML. Iowa has had so many elite players in the secondary, but unfortunately you're correct that there is usually always one or two glaring weaknesses that get exploited big time by any team with a decent passing game.

And, tbh, I think Iowa has done a good job of making coaching adjustments this year on offense, as Brian has overall done a good job calling plays. I don't know if Iowa has a better option at quarterback than Nate Stanley, but it's pretty clear to me they should be trying to explore one.

Must have touched a nerve with the apologists here, which certainly appear plentiful. Let's see how the SOS shakes out after the year with upcoming games against teams that are 5-4, 4-5 and 2-7.

The schedule over blown again. According to Sagarin, here are the B1G schedule strengths so far this season.

Michigan St 7
Purdue 9
NW 11
Penn St 12
Nebraska 16
Michigan 18
Iowa 25
Indiana 36
Minnesota 39
Maryland 47
Rutgers 55
Ohio St 63
Illinois 68
Wisconsin 73

Great, you hold out hope our top 25 SOS falls to make you feel better. In the interim, what are your thoughts on the Top 5 schedule from last year, and how does that play into your theory of Iowa having one of the easiest P5 schedules?

Did your mother let you out of her basement again? And out coached? Really? Purdue burned a true freshman CB 3 or 4 times due to his inexperience, had nothing to do with the X's and O's. Here is a tip, why not try watching the game like you know something about football instead of just being the little basement dwelling troll that you are ;)

Nice side step. But your premise is based on the games they have played to date. Which is a 25th ranked schedule. You touch a nerve by pretty much making up crap which has NOTHING to do with being an apologist.

Mediocre receivers???? LOL!!! So fire Phil Parker now eh? Last week it was Phil Parker the genius!

Bump. I see he's still logged in here and trolling, must have realized how stupid his take was.

I suppose that the GOAT doesn't realize that players need to make plays? You can go out and recruit all of the top-250 guys and all-stars in the world, just as we have, fellow Hawkeye fanatic, but the coaches can't make plays for them.

This must be a new experience for Purdue trolls to thump there chests after a win, because they haven't been able to do if for so long. LOL Enjoy it now, cuz Brohm will eventually leave the bush league for the big league. ;)
You do realize Purdue has beaten Iowa 2 years in a row, So if they are bush league what does that make Iowa? Better question would be that over 2 years the QB has proven to melt in big games and cant win on the road , when will You think about trying another QB ? 2nd question how on earth can a staff allow themselves after being on the job 20 years to be forced into starting 2 freshman corners .

Ya, to be fair, isn't that being outcoached? Ferentz/Parker leaving a true freshman CB on an island with no help over da top? And Brohm/Purdue repeatedly going after that a mismatch not once, not twice, but repeatedly? :)

They are great questions. 99% of our fans are wondering.

I am not so sure about the 99%. Iowa is flush with apologists, many of whom congregate on this board and have thousands of posts to prove it. If you can get a job in Iowa athletics, it is pretty much like the federal judiciary. The post is for life and there is little pressure to perform or appreciable consequences.

A studious reporter would have an interesting story if they did a deep dive on the Iowa athletic department starting at the top and how despite rampant underperformance and the occasional scandal, the top brass not only maintains their positions, but thrives. I know there is no other P5 school out there where the AD, BB and FB coaches have all been together this many years. And during those years, the results have been hardly great. But $ keeps coming in and status quo remains.

KF1: As I said on Saturday and I'll say it again today, credit to Purdue. They have an excellent football team and we knew we were in for a big challenge. That certainly proved to be the case, but I'm really proud of the way our guys competed and left it all out there on the field. Going forward we continue to improve in practice every day and face another challenge ahead of us this week with Northwestern coming to town.

KF2: I'm not sure who is in charge of the scheduling this year, but I will say I odd to start the season with four games in a row at home, then be on the road for a few games then back to Kinnick. We're not making excuses. We knew that going into the season and were prepared for that. It's something all teams will face at some point, but you play it out and move forward week to week. In 1982 at Maine we had just the opposite situation - we started with 3 games on the road before our first home game. There weren't 10,000 people there granted we started 0-3, but it's just how things play out some time.

I would think anyone that DID know something about FB would change things up AFTER the second 50+ yard bomb on the same guy. What is with the name calling? I wish I was in my Mom's basement by the way. Those were the good old days.

Last year Michigan did not have a win in the regular season against a team that had a winning record. The only team that had a winning record was Purdue that got their 7th win in a bowl game, were 6-6 in regular season. Michigan is considered "elite" by some. Not last year. This year is a different year.

to be fair, if KF kicks the extra points then its a tie game 99% of the time.
he was part of the reason we lost saturday. the refs and players also helped, but lets not act like he didn't add to the loss......

one transferred

Coach, question here in the back — how did you keep the Purdue game so close, when Ohio State, with it’s 4 star average classes, and $8M coach got beaten worse. It’s football.

Every competitive game boils down to who is most consistent, or makes an extra effort to win the play.

We just haven’t made critical plays this year. Running into a punt, Inability to connect on 3rd and makeable, unable to stay on top of routes. It’s just the details, but it’s cost us all of our big games this year

The difference between Iowa, Penn St, MSU, Purdue, Wisconsin, and NW is pretty small. It’s those details you spoke of that’s the difference between winning and losing. Heck NW, looking at any objective metric, is probably the worst of the bunch but they’re going to win the West. Go figure.
