4x California champ is an awesome accomplishment. Rare Indeed. But as others have pointed out, who ya beat is a better indicator of success on the next level than the state titles.
A lot of components go into winning 4 state titles. Beyond the obvious of being a great wrestler, the most important component is timing unless you are a talent that trancends generations of wrestlers. 2 of Illinois' best high school wrestlers in recent years (Gomez/Yates who are both IMO better than Mejia) collected 3 state titles apiece. They once met in the 3rd place match at state early in their hs school careers. That bracket had 5 or 6 kids that were nationally ranked at some point in high school. Timing.
Who were the kids Mejia had to go through to get his 4?
Edit*
Seth Nevills will likely be a 4x CA champ as well. How many top 5 kids at the weight has he beaten? Top 10? Top 20? I honestly don't know.
