flo has mejia down too Minny, Iowa, tOSU.

Also say Teske is career 125 and PSU and ISU are both after him hard for that reason.

I agree that out of the two mejia has a better chance at 133 which is a huge need for us.

Now i would prefer we flip Teasdale back from the f**bots, but that's probably a stretch. Hope we at least get one of the three.

I want both. Sadly; Lee has already had several major surgeries, yes he's come back great so far but one never knows...a dream back up of Teske would be awesome, IF Teske is a career 25

Mejia is the perfect Iowa 33 in my opinion. Wants to be a Hawk. Hard working. Willing to wrestle the best. Thrive in the Hawk wrestling room.

FIFY. His torn labrum seems to be just fine. Won a state and world title on it. Verdict is still out on the knee but he has a year and a half if needed to recoup.

Yes, but at only 18? He's had a few major injuries. Yes he's come back amazingly, but never know...much like with any athlete I guess, but just worries me...

This is a concern. Multiple major surgeries by the age of 18 is not a good sign for career longevity. Some people are just injury prone.

That said, I think Spencer is a lot like Nickerson and would be good enough to win multiple NCAA titles even with injuries. The bigger concern might be his international career.

A Half healthy Spencer Lee is better than both Teske and Mejia

I'm concerned about your judgement.

I honestly don't know how Spencer got hurt(labrum nor his knee). Was it practice or competition? Not sure.

In my 6 years as a high school coach, every year we had 3-5 kids on the team that really didn't have any workout partners of significance. Meaning, they outclassed everyone in and around their weight class in our room. What did that mean? Wrestling kids that were larger than they or obviously wrestling coaches(men vs boys). Luckily, it never became an issue in our room, but I could see a situation where a kid at Spencer's RARE level, he would never have a quality workout partner without bumping 2-3 weights in his own room or also working out with his coaches(again, grown mature men). Did he get hurt due to this? Like I said, I don't know how he got hurt, but if you were 14-16 years old and consistently putting your shoulders and knees through a brutally physical workout with larger kids or even men, a lot of things could happen.

I won't sit here and say Spencer will never get hurt in Iowa City, but he will most likely have a lot more "appropriate" workout partners than he has ever had and maybe injuries will be a thing of the past. Hope so!!

GO HAWKS!!

One of these kids can get into Iowa. The other can't. Makes the choice easy. If my guy is wrong on this I will be shocked.

Also, where's the guy who told us a couple months ago that PSU had zero interest in Teske?

As an FU to Iowa...to show he can walk in here and pluck Iowa's #1 off the shelf to go be Suriano's/Teasdale/RBY backup ;)
I also think Teske is career 125. Would it be better for him to sit behind Lee? Maybe he hits 33 his junior year. So how does getting him help with our need to fill 33?

Best Iowa recruit, not necessarily the team #1. There are a few other guys out there I'd want...although Teske has some big potential.

Spoons (aka reddogg) assured us he would be staying in state

One can get in, but the other cannot?!?

Maybe you know things that aren't public knowledge, but if Iowa is on his top 3 list, along with Minny and tOsu, perhaps Mejia (whom I assume you're alluding to) can indeed get in to Iowa.

I think Mejia's ceiling is high, given the right coaching. :) Plus opening up a pipeline to CA's hotbed for wrestling could have long term benefits. Getting Mejia would be a big plus.

Couple of other points....

I think it's difficult to project what weight a HS Jr will wrestle at 3 to 6 years from now.

Lee seems to have recovered from his shoulder surgery, but I too share some concern regarding long term health issues. The shoulder will be tested in d1 wrestling far beyond the way it was in HS. Knees tend to be less problematic, but even there, nothing is guaranteed. Hopefully Lee has full recovery for both.

That isn't evidence. Anyone can say whatever they want. Heck, he signed an LOI for Illinois and can't get in there. I'm not the only one who has made this claim, btw.

For the record, I hope my guy is wrong but if he is it would be one of the first times.

That has not been proven.

Wait, What?

-Gomez at Avon V
-Had match at NOC 1 with Thomsen then pulled out to wrestle Lee at WNO until Lee got hurt
-He went to Flo nationals the last two years and lost in finals to a couple of very good wrestlers
-He beat 3 nationally ranked guys in CA is year.
-Battled JRent a few years ago in a dual
- Wrestled Desanto at Daper Dan.
I'm probably missing others...

Sooooo, I'm not sure what ur talking about when you don't think Mejia is willing to wrestle the best. Has he taken losses; you bet but all of them have come from quality guys who are going to be at D1 programs.

Yeah, I think he's put himself out there enough against high caliber guys to warrant the; "willing to wrestle the best" tag line...

Anyone can say whatever they want. That's true. Wouldn't that also apply to a poster who says, "he can't get in?"

If Mejia can't get in, we would have to assume he was not telling the truth, and that really he was denied admission. For him to include tOSU and Minn as his other choices would not make sense either, since they are likely as hard or harder to get into than Iowa.

I don't have any first hand knowledge of the situation, but based on a couple of things - Mejia decommiting from Illinois and saying he's interested in Iowa, it doesn't seem impossible that he could end up at Iowa.

Just trying to keep an open mind on this. I too hope this is "one of the first times" your guy has been wrong.

Kind of weird...unless the kid is speaking out of his ass about Iowa, it means that it is reciproca...at least to a degree. I do know that we are fishing for whales so we'll see if the money is there. Obviously, he wants to go to a B1G school or else he could just stay home and go to Fresno for free. Willie called him out as well...but Justin fired back on Twitter.

No doubt. It's a message board, not the Bible.

He didn't decommit from Illinois. He couldn't get in. Myself, along with a few others, warned months ago that he's going to have problems. That's proven itself out so far.

FWIW, If I were a gambling man, I'd bet on Justin taking the JUCO route...
If he goes part time to Kirkwood, could he still work out with HWC and start his eligibility clock next year. No clue if it's plausible at all, just spitballing options on him coming to Iowa.

I agree!

Not quite. In general, he would likely have to get his AA before going to Iowa so that's more like 1.5-2 years.

Ok, so you listed 2 big tournaments and a couple all-star duals. The fact is he never wrestled in WNO even though the last few year he was one of the top guys. Wrestling DeSantos and getting destroyed is not something to really put on your resume. I guess my point is he never put himself out there in freestyle which almost every top kid does. Before you say well maybe he doesn't wrestle like freestyle. Wrestling is wrestling. You get the absolute best competition wrestling freestyle.
I do want Mejia at Iowa because a kid with that talent at Lightweight U could be great.
