a bit surprised at illanoy knocking off 'clones. I thought this was the year they might finally get to the FF. The way uconn is looking, though, they would have had a tough time getting past that one.
Now it's time for painter to show that he can get a team with the most dominant player on the men's side through to the FF. gonzaga was far from great this year, but I can see them giving the boilers all they can handle.

Zags are playing their best basketball right now. They put Dickinson in the spin cycle w/the pick and rolls last week. Will be interesting to see how Purdue defends them.
That's been a pattern with unc. Great individual talent and athletes who tend to default to a lot of one on one hero ball.
Not sure it will matter. Gonzaga has nothing for Edey.
I really think the only teams that pose a problem to Purdue are the super aggressive trapping teams like isu and Houston.
I don't think anyone except maybe UConn can beat Purdue without making them uncomfortable on their offensive end.

I’d agree with that but if they can consistently get Edey in pick and roll and foul trouble it certainly changes the game. But as I’ve said all season the Purdue guard play is much improved.

Yeah, tough to win 'em all. I was just curious if those games revealed any flaws or patterns that could be exploited.
Sure, Edey foul trouble would be a game changer but Painter always has him drop specifically to keep him out of foul trouble.
One interesting thing is Edey actually did switch big on big picks against Utah St. I don't remember seeing that before but you rarely ever see that from an offense in college.
That may be a way to get him to guard one of Gonzaga smaller "bigs" in space because a couple of them can shoot 3s too.
I think so too. I forgot they played Gonzaga way back in November and won by 10 back then too.
I'm ok with a Purdue run in the tournament. They've suffered a lot of early exits and I don't hate the like Wisconsin.

He’s a great player. Probably the most dominant big man since Shaq. Who cares what he says. The guy freaking dominates.
Edey gets real good whistle now that he is a star. Couple plays Zag defenders get their hands on the ball and refs wait to see if Edey misses the shot and then call foul.
I think this Purdue team can beat Uconn but not sure Purdue makes the Final-4. Purdue is looking tough though.
I guess it is good for B1G rep if Purdue wins it all, even though it is mainly because the have a Giant that opens things up for all the rest of the team.

Theoretical question: put Edey on the Iowa squad this year, does Iowa make the sweet16? Probably not---two inconsistent with 3ball and too weak perimeter defense.
The giant was a huge project when Purdue got him. They coached him up and he worked his ass off. A lot of teams could have recruited him.
I would have been a very good 6’1 guard in today’s game except I played in the 80’s when you had to have your dribbling hand on top of the ball! Any dribble with your hand on the side of the ball was a carry!
