Michigan defensive end Jalen Hunt is headed to Iowa. The 6-foot-2, 245-pound Hunt is still in the midst of his official visit to Iowa City, but decided that he had seen enough and gave his verbal commitment to the Hawkeyes on Saturday afternoon.

"The main reason I committed here is because I feel the most comfortable," Hunt told HawkeyeReport.com. "Also, the consistency of the coaching staff, and over the weekend I’ve gotten to know the other 2019 committed recruits and I’ve really bonded with them. Iowa is the perfect place for me."

A three-star prospect, Hunt chose Iowa over scholarship offers from Michigan State, Missouri, Boston College, Kentucky, Louisville, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, and Cincinnati, among others.

Overall, Hunt is commitment No. 11 for the Hawkeye coaching staff in 2019 as he joins Ezra Miller, Logan Lee, Tyler Endres, Noah Fenske, Jack Campbell, Sebastian Castro, Jestin Jacobs, Desmond Hutson, Jake Karchinski, and Alex Padilla in Iowa's recruiting class.

Lots of speed and explosion. Will need to work on his flexibility, bending the corner.

But this is the type of recruit that gets drafted in our system — good offer list, strong acceleration to the ball, above average athleticism (pretty solid RB), and has an early understanding that if you listen to the coaches then good things will happen.

Prediction — he will compete immediately on special teams.

Very solid offer list, and especially impressed we beat out the home state Spartans ...(unless he grew up a Wolverines fan, then just slightly less impressed)

Absolutely terrific news! Congrats to the Hawks ... and welcome to the Hawkeye family Jalen!!!

Saw some bidness on twitter earlier that Mosai was supposed to have been on a visit to Lincoln in the last few days but did not go. Not sure what that was about. I still think he is more interested in them than Iowa but not sure.

Welcome Jalen!! Does this mean Bye Bye Mosai?
Not at all - it seems like the Hawks are looking to land 3 D-linemen in the current recruiting cycle. I'd assume that the Hawks would still love to land Newsom ... but there are other guys we're keeping in mind too. For example, the JUCOs at IWCC are still being targeted and Tomari Fox isn't necessarily out of the picture either.

Posted before...if you are getting 4 tackles a game in a below average 3A District....ehh

Visions of Leroy Smith oh yes

So glad you mentioned this! I thought of Leroy Smith while watching Jalen. He looks like Shonn Greene on the offensive side.

We don’t have a lot of 6’2” DE, so I’m not certain he will stay at that position, but this young man will be a football player, starting on kick coverage. Welcome aboard, Jalen!! On IOWA, Go Hawks!!

Hard to say. Broderick Binns wasn't a tall guy - and he remained at DE. Similarly, Howard Hodges, Jonathan Babineaux, and Nate Meier weren't particularly tall either. However, if you have shorter stature ... it helps to either have a little extra toughness, longer arms, great leverage, great technique, a great motor, ... or some favorable combo of them.

I think Hunt could remain at DE ... however, it's also possible that he could project at DT too.

This young man has defensive tackle written all over him.
I was thinkin' that, too. I'm sure that will depend on how much of his quickness is lost with an additional 40 lbs. Regardless, he will get plenty of playing time, and should not burn his red-shirt!

A nice weekend. Need to find a playmaker at WR and these past 2 classes could end up being REALLY good!

Holy cow, what a trifecta from the past weekend! Jalen, you just made a choice that will have a positive impact on the rest of your life. Great school, great program and a great city. Take it all in during your time in Iowa City. Stoked to have you on board!

Interesting comparisons. You got me thinking about each of those guys.

I can’t remember if Babs played outside at all while at Iowa, but he played all of his pro ball @ DT, same as Howard Hodges. Babs might be a really good comparison to Jalen. Both are huge, physical runners. Remember when Babs first came to IOWA and he was returning kicks? What a freak!! Hopefully Jalen has a little Babs in him. He looks an awful lot like Diesel Daniels in the recruit pic from this weekend with those wide shoulders. If he turns out like or better than any of the aforementioned players, we’ll have a good one on our hands.

Babs was our starting DE in 2002. He then slid over to DT in 2003. However, oddly enough, his earliest snaps as a Hawk were at FB.
