Michigan lineup

Is there a chance iowa loses?
There’s always a chance no matter how big of a favorite you are because you never know what can happen in a match. We almost lost to Iowa State like 5 years ago because Myles Wilson was beating Coleman by like 5-6 in the 2nd period and tore his acl and had to injury default. That’s a 9-10 point swing in a dual.

Exactly, in baseball you put in another infielder. This is one of those strange sports an individual team sport and people often forget that for some reason. I think with a healthy line up on both sides means Iowa wins.

Rhodes can only wrestle one more time, then his redshirt is pulled. If Assad is still injured against OK state, who is going to wrestle 84? Yeah say Charles Matthews.

I pay attention to other teams and I see issues with injury in every line-up. Some seasons they add up, some they don’t.

You have 12 years of data to make this interesting, or are you just gonna sit there and whistle Dixie?

BTW, remember you heard it here first but if anyone asks you don’t remember where you heard this…
Gomez was seen going through an Iowa practice the day before his injury v NW.

What is "going through an Iowa practice"?

I feel bad for Medley. Spencer has this home meet and then one more left. I imagine he will want to “put on a show” during his last two meets at CHA.

For accuracy, Wilson was ahead by 1 point and the injury happened between the 1st and 2nd period.

Michigan favored at 133, 157, 184 and 285. Iowa favored at 125, 141, 149 and 197.

Ok, stop. You’ve done enough to convince me I don’t need any more of your evidence. Goggles on the other hand is ready to go to church with you.

Got it. Iowa doesn't have a problem with limping to the finish.

Peaking for NCAAs or underperforming during the regular season? Or are they almost the same.

Back a few years ago, I would say that Iowa definitely overperformed during the regular season. You would have guys seeded for Big Tens and NCAAs very highly because of their regular season performances. But if you actually look at the brackets, there were definitely lower seeded guys with way more talent.

You may have an Uber talented guy (say the best in the country) that is out of shape in the regular season, partying, not focused, and not wrestling great and takes a few losses and gets an 8 seed. He stops partying for a few weeks and gets in a little better shape and takes 4th (way below his talent level). What a great coach!! Really got his guy to peak at the right time!! There is a little bit of this going on at a lot of schools.

I would guess that the Iowa guys are probably in better shape and ready to go than most teams during the regular season. They get passed up by more talented guys that get their act together a bit more at the end of the season.

Another factor is how NCAAs are refereed. They allow neutral stalling, edge wrestling and top stall riding much more than the regular season. This is a big reason guys like Warner, Ferrari, and some of the PSU guys are built for NCAAs. And I guess some coaches are probably better at coaching their guys to take advantage of the stalling and gaming the system.

And some coaches and wrestlers really don’t care that much about the regular season and go half hearted through the season with the goal to wrestle their best in March. Although this is technically “peaking” at NCAAs, they are just wrestling better than they did during the regular season - not necessarily that they are getting the best out of their God-given abilities.

And you may have a coach with a wrestler of limited abilities - barely a qualifier caliber guy. That guy wrestles really hard and to the best of his abilities all year. He gets a pretty high seed (say 8), but gets passed by the much more talented field at NCAAs and finishes in the round of 12. Failure, right? Underperformed, right?

It shouldn’t be all about your seed and how you finished as much as did you and your coach get the most out of your abilities.

Just my opinion.
