Middle of the pack big ten finish and 7 or 8 seed in the dance

Pretty much the ceiling under Fran. Better lock him up for the next 25 years.
It has been the ceiling for the program over the Fran era. The UI administration has been perfectly satisfied with that ceiling, as well as the basement season of 19-20 losses.

Time for everyone to accept it.

I hope the OP is being sarcastic. Really, 11-9 with several injuries to coach through. Finished 5th in the B1G and 2 points away from a double bye?

Please tell me you're kidding.

If we can beat minny on Thursday I like our chances against the Illini on Friday. Beat minny and I think we hold at least a 7 seed. We can certainly lose to a 10 seed but we could also beat a 2. Still love this team’s grit. Fought back on the road today and didn’t back down to a bunch of hacks. Not much of a ref basher usually but Terry Wiemer sucks!

Minny will be a tough out and our track record in the BTT, coin toss....

What happened I was banking on your stellar analysis?
Scoring drought. Still almost pulled it out. Like I predicted, Toussaint was getting to the rim and being very effective (14 pts in first half). Then for whatever reason he didn’t play much in the second.... Dont get it.

Ayo is good. Garza is the best player in the league.

Lion heart.

Pretty much the ceiling since George’s recruits left the building, yes?
No. In 06 we were one game away from regular season championship, won big ten tourney, and were a 3 seed in ncca. I know they choked in dance but people seem to forget that season

Absolutely could not care less how Iowa finishes in the regular season, or BTT, as long as they make the Dance. You can win the Big Ten, but if it results in losing in the Round of 32, does anybody really care? It’s a nice accolade, but means nothing.

A season’s success is determined in March. And this team has positioned itself to win a game or two in the big one. Given the circumstances surrounding the team, that would undoubtedly be a successful year. A first round loss? ... hopefully don’t need to find out how I feel about that

That’s because they choked, and that’s what ppl remember. I doubt there’s many people who would remember choking in the big ten tourney or regular season if they made a run in the tourney. Honestly I think the conference tourney is useless.

Love how many take a troll seriously. Good season, somewhat unexpected under difficult circumstances. I thought we were looking at 14 wins after DePaul. Fought tonight on the road and lost by two with a chance to win it with a three.

No.

Davis had teams earn 4-6 seeds with his own players, and Alford had a 3 seed. Granted they lost in the first round, but 7 seed has not been the ceiling. If that's an anomaly to you, it's only been made to seem that way but how mediocre the past 20 years have been.

Has been the ceiling under Fran to this point, though. Ok results, but we've seen better since the players you speak of graduated.

Game has changed a bit and Iowa hasn't been a destination in the last 20 years for the kind of players that play for teams that get those higher seeds.........just sayin.

Looking like a 7 seed right now to me. If they lose to Minny/NW, then could fall to an 8. I think they need to win at least two B1G tourney games to have a chance at a 6 seed. I don't see that happening the way the team is trending. I'm hoping they can at least stay out of the 8/9 game. Then I think they might have a chance to make a run at the Sweet 16, which they need to do one of these years. It's been far too long. Time for the Hawks to make a little noise on the national level.

Yeah it looks like the floor is 8 with a ceiling of 5.

And what did Tom Davis have in the 90's, or Alford have on his 3 seed? Go back and look at the rosters. You seem to be laboring under the delusion that those teams were loaded with high flying lottery picks. Lot of Iowa kids, etc. Still had several teams in the 3-6 range. Just sayin'.

Settles, Bowen, Horner, Brunner, Haluska, etc.

We can't rebound and Wieskamp sucks ass right now is my why's.

How many were seniors on that 2006 team, who played for 3-4 years as starters/main rotation guys?
We had a lot of good college players that fit Alford's style and that year was the culmination of their recruiting classes from several years earlier.

If you have an exceptional coach, then a 49% Big10 winning percentage, a little above middle of the pack in B1G, 0 or 1 win in BTT, and 0 or 1 win in NCAA tourney is not the ceiling. Wisconsin used to be a wasteland in B-ball back in the days of Lute Olson. There have been system coaches that have won B1G titles without 1-and-done talent. Bo Ryan, Gene Keady, Matt Painter.

Maybe Fran is on the cusp of putting together something well above average, but it has been a long wait, and his lack of focus on defense is part of the reason some of his seasons have gone sideways. He's also had a huge problem with guys transferring out on him and hasn't had much success in getting grad transfers to come to Iowa, despite usually having open schollies.

I think I speak for most of us...

If we could've just won one of the last two (especially Illinois) it would feel like this...

Dropping both leaves us feeling more like this...

Regardless, I'm sure we all agree that if make it to Saturday for a rematch against Connie and come out victorious, it will feel like this...
