Midlands IV

Zillmer was aggressive and had some smooth looking shots, caught Brooks flat footed a few times.

Huh? He didn't initiate a single offensive move over the final two periods. Not to be critical of him. He was a deserved winner.

I thought he looked pretty aggressive until the last 45 or so seconds of the match. That ankle pick he hit for the first TD was real slick too. Maybe that's the only thing sticking in my mind though to form that opinion

Great job by Stollhouse!! Way to go out with a bang.

Burak wrestling very solid

Interesting match with DT and Dudley...Dudley gave him all he could handle. DT did what he had to do to win but was that a stall call on him as he was backing out at the end? Not the messianic domination that was expected on the PSU board...of Brooks or Dudley.

Tshirt might be my least favorite wrestler ever. If all wrestling was his style, I'd find a new sport.
Not even close... Delgado from Illinnoying is MY least favorite wrestler of all time. T-Shirt and BS are so even that neither is willing to make high risk moves. The top three at this weight are interchangeable, imo.

Burak won 6-1.Haven't seen it posted yet, any more info on the match?
0-0 after 1, with not much happening. Nebraska takes down, some good early action from Nebby, but Burak follows and handles it and goes OOB still on top. On restart, Burak breaks him down and rides the crap out of him the entire period. Not close to turning him, but tough ride. In the 3rd, Burak takes down and Nebby gives up the 1 point to start neutral, then Burak with a nice low single and finish, then rides a little and lets him go, and finishes on the edge with another attack for 2. Rides out the last :12 for the win. Great tourney for Nathan, looking really sharp so far this year.

Burak's 2nd period ride was awesome. he was wrestling White, his second Nebby wrestler, this one was a frosh redshirt. In the third period with a 1-0 lead + RT the Nebby guy went a little more agressive but what White didn't realize was that Sammy Burak is hard to get a TD against and Sammy wasn't planning on giving up any TDs this tournament. After a shot or two, Sammy got in deep on a leg and White pretty much gave up. Sammy then got another TD for good measure, b/c he didn't want to waste mat time with just hand fighting until the horn.

I thought DT looked a significantly smaller then Dudley. He couldn't force anything and had problems keeping wrist control.

Looks like Dudley may have found a gas tank too. He could be troublesome in this weight if that shit keeps up! Ha!

To be fair both guys did a lot of sitting on their arses in the finals. DT couldn't do anything on top but hold on. He should have been called for stalling at least once.

Not sure what to think about DT performances in these last 2 matches. Underwhelming for sure. Was it his inability to force action against better competition or just being disinterested.

I'm not sure if the fact that Long is 26/27 makes his performance more impressive or less impressive. My inclination is that it makes it more impressive.

I'd certainly lean the other way. Had other former 26-27 year olds entered the tournament, the Finals would have looked a whole lot different.

Plenty of examples of guys who have came back and done well at midlands after their collegiate career was over. Plenty examples of guys whom have come back and done not as well at Midlands after their collegiate career. Very few examples of guys whom have come back after that long of lay-off and completely laid waste to the field the way Andrew Long did.

Daniel Dennis has been pretty impressive after a long layoff...at the senior level. Tanner Hall has been out of wrestling for how long? Beat some tough heavies and gave the champ a rough go of it. Long looked great today and I have no problem thinking he could contend...but he was always talented.

Track has the following notes on Iowa's scoring.

Control of mat area - Bout 178 0.00
Questioning of official on Head Coach - Bout 210 0.00
Control of mat area - Bout 704 -1.00
