Ok here are my thoughts on how the Hawks do. Keep in mind these results are assuming Va Tech sends some guys up.

Gilman: 1st
Clark: 1st
Grothus: DNP, Turk comes close
Sorensen: 1st, Kemmerer 6th
Cooper: 7th
Rhoades: DNP
Meyer: 3rd
Brooks: 1st
Burak: 1st
Stoll: 4th
Team: 1st

Brody probably defaults out after a couple of matches.

Let me see the pre-seeds and then I'll project my thoughts. However, I will tell you this.
Michael Kemerer will finish higher than sixth. You can take that to the bank.
And by the way, if Grothus wrestles, he's likely to wrestle more than a couple matches, IMO. I just don't see that as the Iowa way.
Spoons---don't abuse your privilege of being in the room. Just sayin.

Has to be typo. Carton 141 tho. Kemerer being redshirted, and Rhoads probably doesn't qualify under ANDEGRE's software program

My bad.....meant Carton at 141.....brain just didn't get the message to the fingers.

Expect more than 2. You guys can guess who.

Fleming: What are you talking about with Brody? All decisions will be based off whats best for getting Brody ready for March.

IMO, Grothus will not benefit from just a couple of matches at Midlands. Why? Because his first several matches will be no different than in the daily practice room. If he's not 100% that's a different story. However, I DON'T BELIEVE Coach Brands and the training staff would wrestle Grothus if he weren't 100%.

What the hell are you people doing, don't you know there is a Grothus thread we are building on ? ;)

Anyway fleming 24 jump over to the 14 page thread we are after. :D I have something to tell you.

On edge of my seat how Kemer will do! Same as Clark and BS when they were true freshman. Love this kids non-stop Iowa attack! Exciting! Yes, where is Carton? Ready to go over the bubble? Beat those top 12 guys? I think so...!

So excited for Sam! He feels it! Knows where he has to be - to be on the wood in March! Boby's taking pride in his underling- and were seeing the results!

Go Hawks!

Carton was impressive against Rutgers. I am interested in seeing how Turk and Carton finish.

Pre-seeds came out four days before the tournament last year, and I don't think they actually do the brackets until everyone weighs in unless I am misremembering.

125 - Gilman won't be tested until semis

133 is going to be flat out fun to watch from quarters on.

141 - outside of those top 3 guys there's a lot of potential for our guys to be in 4-6 range

149 - Sorenson and Tsirtsis match in the finals probably. Would love to see Kemerer match up with either Sueflohn or Moreno to gauge where he's at. Guessing tight match with Sue but would beat Moreno by 3-4ish.

157 - Great opportunity for Cooper to solidify himself in the rankings. Excited to see Steiert for UNI as well

165 - If Rhoads can keep his energy up through an entire tournament he can knock off a couple guys, but this is a pretty solid weight

174 - I'd like to see Meyer go at it again with Brunson and would love to see him and Hammond go at it.

184 - Sammy could possibly wrestle Gravina/Dudley in the quarters then Stauffer and Dechow in the finals. That's a hell of a tournament. Going to be really fun to watch.

197 - Burak and Wellington would be an exciting match, but Burak should cruise to finals

Hwt - 6/7 quality guys here. Gwiazdowski is a lock for the finals but the other finalist could be any of Stoll, Cabell, Larson, Dhesi, Smith. Great chance for Stoll to solidify or move up in the ranks.

I agree with this. Has a healthy Iowa wrestler ever done something like default out of a tournament? Have there been any statements from the coaches or Brody suggesting he will default out? If not, I think he's in it to win it.

I would hope that is the case. Not an advocate for any other approach.

(125) Gilman: 1st - holds off Dylan Peters in a low scoring finals match, HR forum criticizes lack of offense. The Mat criticizes his post match celebration.
(133) Clark: 2nd - Brewer returns to form and takes down Clark in the finals.
(141) Ryan: DNP; Grothus DNP - HR forum questions if he can still move up to 157
(149) Sorensen: 2nd - Tsirtsis returns to form winning in dull fashion in SV on RT; Kemerer - DNP, Brands finds him a freshman tournament to send him to where he wins easily.
(157) Cooper: DNP - defeats one top 20 wrestler inspiring HR forum confidence, promptly loses to 2 opponents outside of the top 50.
(165) Rhoads: DNP - wrestles valiantly in two 1 point losses to ranked opponents. Ironside praises effort.
(174) Meyer: 1st - HR forum still wonders why he's not winning by larger margins
(184) Brooks: 2nd - defeats Hayden Zilmer again but remains ranked below him in Flo rankings. Loses a close match to Dechow in the finals.
(197) Burak: 2nd - displays minimal offense on his route to the finals where he loses to Wellington by illegal slam.
(HWT) Stoll: 4th - Rolls through the early rounds but loses to Dhesi by TF. Takes 4th after losing to Gage Hutchison by fall in the 3rd place match. Most HR forum posters praise his effort. One poster blames his losses on too many cookies.

You need to define "healthy." That's not a definitive term.

Many, many times over the years have tourneys been used by Iowa and other teams as a testing ground for injury recovery. Grothus had a pretty significant shoulder surgery this summer. If he's still coming out of that recovery phase it might be wise for him to wrestle a few matches then call it a tourney. This isn't the time to be a hammerhead and claim weakness. This is a time to be prudent and realize it's an insignificant tournament in December.

That said, none of us are likely doctors and even if we were, we aren't experts on his surgery and recovery. It's up to them, the coaches and Grothus.

I couldn't go this year...piss poor planning and set-up with Home CINC...but I have those two days off. Just imagine a guy in his PJs, two computers, a comfortable recliner, some beard growth, and his dogs pleading with him to go outside. Can't wait.

Need to get more pages.
Had Robin fly into my yard this morning and had a message that said "Brody not quite ready to go yet"..
Now if u can believe a bird I have oil land to selly ya. ;)

Sounds about like my weekend with the open and Reno. I used to rock the two monitors but now I just run the hdmi cable. With flow it rocks because they always have two mats up.

Meyer will have his hands full with Valencia. Zahid just wrestled pretty well in Vegas at the senior nationals. He beat Nestor Taffur who was a solid D1 wrestler and he beat NCAA AA John Asper from Maryland. He lost to Chris Perry and Clayton Foster. If Meyer does his typical slow start, he's going to have a hard time coming back on Zahid. He's got a great gas tank. In his loss to Foster he was down 8-0 and he relentlessly attacked. Only one of his attacks resulted in a TD but he got to his legs over and over and Clayton was gassed by the end.

Anthony?

While watching yesterday's Oklahoma/Lehigh dual, I could have sworn that Jack Spates said that Brewer and a couple other wrestlers would not be going to Midlands. He was about to expand further on the topic, but then something happened on the mat and he never came back to that particular topic to finish his thoughts.
