Mike Pence: Mayo Clinic mask policy is for peons. My camera face is more important than lives...

My understanding is that a mask will prevent you from transmitting COVID-19, but not from contracting it. So if Pence is confirmed to not have it, a mask won't do any good.

That said, it's a bad look for the leader of Trump's national COVID response team to flout public health rules.
A mask also lessens your chance of contracting it...if everyone wore masks like they were supposed to, stands to reason there’d be less infections, right?

If people ever wondered, as I and many others have, how Hitler could have taken over a large, well educated nation, we've certainly seen our questions answered by the Trump cultists. Truly frightening.

No way... don't even compare the two. Hitler rose to power in Germany when Germany was obliterated under the sanctions of the Treaty of Versailles. They had essentially no military, no money, no power for a nation that rose together to probably #3 in the world in terms of industrialization before WWI. Germany was shattered and he promised to get them back up... which ironically he did until the great collapse during WWII.

My point? Germany literally had nothing to lose. Nothing. Hitler turned out to be the crazy man history has painted him as and they lost to be divided up for several decades. That was the price they paid.

What is our excuse for what we have done? Yes, we are in major debt which is only going to be so much worse after this pandemic. However, our problems were nowhere near as dire and we voted for Trump. Absolutely the Republican voters take blame in this but so do the Democrats for rolling out Hillary and they may have found a worse candidate this time.

Can anyone be worse than Trump? Are you serious????

Hillary would have been a helluva lot more competent than the Clown-in-Chief we currently call our president.

If you can't even see that, you defintely have your eyes closed.

Try again.

I don't know if she's a worse candidate. She was a bad candidate but not a worse candidate. She did win more votes.

This is what some folks keep saying but I don't buy it. Just one example, it will prevent you from touching your mouth and nose thereby preventing transmission from hands. Also, if it prevents someone's cough from getting into the air and onto surfaces, why can't it prevent you from getting contaminated from someone's uncovered cough?

Trump speaks to similar themes. Economic insecurity. The evils of an external threat that is race based. But, you've laid the groundwork for drinking Kool Aid again, I see. There is no way Hillary mucks up the response of the US as bigly as Trump has.

MN department of health should probably send surveyors to investigate/document this violation. It would reinforce the message that regulations are for everyone. They typically will issue a HC facility a tag if you cut a loud fart, these days there should be no leeway for any such negligence.

Wrong on both counts, and a lame excuse to justify people voting the the blatantly unqualified and unfit moron Trump. A vote for him for president was and would be an inexcusable dereliction of duty as a responsible voter.

No, I was saying I think Biden is far worse than her. I certainly would have picked Trump over Hillary at the time but I honestly voted 3rd party because I chose a candidate I thought wouldn't mess up the nation.

But hawkfan_08 is correct. What is our excuse as a country. Germany had the excuse of looking for a savior. Our excuse is, we're just plain dumb. How can republicans be ok with trump. It's just crazy how they allow him to do whatever he wants and they follow until the end. The democrats were ok with Hillary thinking they would get more of the same. In the end, our great country ended up with an absolute idiot for a president. The joke is, people still don't see him for what he is. Germany had a valid excuse, we do not.

Wrong on what accounts? The last paragraph I said? You realize I was saying as a nation we have no excuse for what we did... right?

Thank you, that is exactly what I was getting at.

Oh goodness... I am not advocating Hillary would have done as much damage. I am saying the Democrats put a candidate up for election that almost no Republicans could get behind. The divisiveness between the parties continues to be one of the biggest problems in our country. We, as a nation, are incapable of thinking for ourselves apparently.

I’ll tell you what leadership would have been here: Hospital tells VP “no mask, no visit”.

So apparently the wearing of a mask in this situation wasn't mandatory,.. or are you saying that Mayo management lacks the balls to enforce their own policy?,.. I seriously doubt that...

I feel like this is similar to going to someone's house for a party and being asked to remove your shoes. It might not be what I want to do, but I respect the hosts wishes. It's common adult courtesy. Put on the mask, quit thinking it's a sign of "weakness", or at least be smart enough to know you shouldn't even risk a chance of the people you are visiting get infected.

To me, it's like showing up to an orgy and refusing to wear a condom.

When it comes to the VP, yes that is exactly what happened....

Then I would say that Mayo management made a conscious decision to accept Pence without a mask,.. If that's the case then they should explain their decision.

Validity is just a matter of perspective. Objectively, our country wasn't in near the pickle that Germany was in, but it may have felt that way to a large enough group of people.

They had just lived 8 years under a Kenyan, Muslim, communist dictator. He trashed their way of living, divided the nation, incited race relations, apologized for our nation around the globe. He ruined healthcare, took from the producers and gave it to the takers. All of this while the media praises him and the global elite gave him a Nobel prize.

It doesn't matter if that's true or not if people feel like it is.

"conscious decision" is redundant. I suspect they weighed the risk of a battle with this administration vs. the risk of harm to staff and patients based on Pence's representation that he is constantly (weekly) tested and decided to let him not wear the mask. It is unfortunate that this administration places care facilities in this situation....assuming I am correct.

Tried to call White House (202-456-1111) on this one. "Comment line closed, but see whitehouse.gov/contact."

Submitted the following there: "I am disgusted that VP Pence did not wear a mask at Mayo 4/28. This is the complete opposite of leadership. And his explanation ("want to look workers in the eye") is just silly."

So, please do something other than just post on HROT. Submit a complaint. These idiots need to know we expect leadership from them.

But that's the point I think hawkfan_08 was trying to make. Perception isn't reality. Germany was reality, their country was left in ruins. Our country was not left in ruins. What happened to our country was pure stupidity. Now that is the reality part.

There would be no battle to be had,.. They are the Mayo Clinic. If they say that the VP needs to wear a mask to enter their facility, and Pence refuses, then Pence looks like an idiot to any American with an IQ above 50,.. In today's politically charged environment Pence automatically loses this battle,.. Mayo obviously didn't think it was that important...

There would most certainly with this administration...Twitter war of words, potential reduction in federal research funding...any perceived slight to the this administration's image is met with the proverbial "hitting back"-- that fact cannot be disputed.

Bullshit,.. Pence automatically caves and it's a non issue,.. If he seriously dislikes the look of a photo-op with a mask he simply disallows that photo,.. this was a non-event until the media got into it...

Disagree. Pence made the decision to not wear a required. Unless you are suggesting Pence was not informed of the mask requirement -- which is silly. Mayo taking the position that Pence was not allowed to come in would be met with the administration punching back with a retort that Mayo was being political in not letting Pence in...probably elitist would be thrown in. As it is logical to assume that the directive to not wear a mask comes from the administration (presumably because it projects weakness) the Mayo would have to face the President's and VP's bully pulpit.......it would simply outmatch the Mayo. Not a hill they wanted to die on.

And I'm just saying that Mayo would have easily won that "battle",.. they obviously didn't think the mask thing was worth discussion..

Nancy Peolsi picks her nose and wipes it on the podium at the U.S. Capitol and no one said a dam thing.
