Miller Moss looking at Iowa?

Moss said that in his next step, he's going to look for a school that can compete for a conference championship and win "at the highest level."

Does that scream Iowa to anyone here?
Does a guy who got benched at USC scream starting QB for a team "winning at the highest level" to anyone here?

Moss is a decent pocket QB. But unless we get a serious upgrade at WR, I don’t see a decent pocket QB having much success here. We don’t have anyone that can reliably win 1-on-1 matchups.

Gill was by far our best WR this year, simply because he has reliable hands and is a good blocker. But he has only average WR speed and the size of a CB. He was not getting much playing time at Northwestern.

Sullivan may have some limitations, but I think he would be our best QB since Stanley or Beathard. WR is a bigger concern for me.

He's an instant upgrade over Cade. Sullivan was an upgrade over Cade. The question today is how much of an upgrade he is over Sullivan. His passer rating was pretty modest considering the significant talent advantages they had at wide receiver vs a team like Iowa.
Sounds similar to Cade at Michigan.

In 9 games he put up 2555 yards passing on 64.4% passing, with 18tds to 9 ints, and that usc line is not great. Now his wr targets are probably much better. This was his first year as a starter.
Sounds good to me….we definitely also need a proven portal WR or two…😎

I’d prefer we don’t spend an exorbitant amount of our NIL pot on a QB. For schools that have unlimited NIL, go for it. But that ain’t us. We aren’t poor by any means, but spending 7 figures on anything other than a 100% can’t miss QB is a poor allocation of limited resources imo.

I think Iowas best chance is the Trent Dilfer Super Bowl model. Great defense, great special teams, and a good/competent but not great QB. Maybe not the perfect analogy but point being, if we overspend on QB (that always will be at a level below top tier QBs anyway), we risk losing our current strength of defense and OL recruiting base.

Edit: of course would welcome Miller or other QB if the price is right!

Oh so now Cali kids are awesome and needed. According to this board they are soft and awful but now lol
UCLA ass kicking has already been forgotten.
So now a 3 point loss on the road is an ass kicking? Yesterday there was a Clone describing the one point loss to them as an ass kicking.

Did I miss where the term ass kicking was changed to describe a contest where the outcome is decided by 3 points or less?

Encouraging that they realize that the current qbs won't be enough for next year but I don't know if this would be my first choice
As a dual threat, if Sullivan could stay healthy, I think he'd be a very good starter next year. Because he is so mobile, the O-line doesn't have to be great. A mobile QB can do wonders for the O-line as opposed to the statues Iowa has played in recent years: Petras, Hill, and McNamara. You saw how the run game opened up for KJ immediately when Sully was inserted at QB. The defense having to account for the QB is a huge advantage for the offense. And with all off-season to work on his passing, Sully could be an outstanding QB.

Stratton also has potential. He can move, although he's not the same as Sully. Stratton can make all the throws. We've seen that. He has talent, but he lacks experience.

Lainez, if he stays, is an unknown. He is an excellent runner, but we haven't seen enough of his throwing to know what he can do. Could he be moved to RB or WR?

The freshman is supposed to be a dual threat.

Iowa absolutely should be looking for a QB in the portal, but not just a warm body. They need someone is clearly better than anyone they have now. If they can't get that guy, then don't waste a roster spot. Is the USC kid worth acquiring? I have no idea.

I was there. Iowa was totally dominated by UCLA. That Iowa only lost by three was the result of UCLA's turnovers and penalties and a gutty performance by Jackson Stratton. Ask KJ and Higgins and Sully about UCLA. It was men against boys that night, and it was embarrassing for Iowa. That's the truth. The scoreboard can lie, and it sure did in this case.

I really like what I saw with Sullivan, however, we have seen now that he does struggle with decision making. Possibly not the most accurate passer either. Now, Iowa's WRs need to develop, however, I will continue to say that watching Marco against Tennessee was awesome. The arm strength is concerning, but every day of the week I would take that upside over Stratton, and I'm not sure Sully stays healthy all year. I hope he sticks around.

The scoreboard is the only thing that matters in the end. The Iowa lines were dominated in that game, but a 3 point loss is not an ass kicking any more than a 3 point win where you were dominated yardage wise is an ass kicking.

I trust Lester's eyes a lot more than what we've had in the recent past.

He's not going to bring in any dogs.
So remember that Lester recruited Sullivan when Lester was HC at Western Michigan. I would be very happy with a healthy Sullivan as the Iowa QB next year. The kid showed what a difference maker he can be. With off-season coaching from Lester, by next fall Sullivan could be an outstanding dual threat QB for the Hawkeyes. Look what he did to open things up for KJ this year. And his passing was an upgrade and can continue to improve. The grass is seldom greener. The McNamara experience should remind everyone of that.

There is a reason that the Iowa staff is looking to the portal for a QB, and believing they have a solid QB1 in the room is not one of them.

If You are going to bring in Moss You will need a WR1 from the portal that can get open quickly and threaten a defense over the top because Moss is not mobile and He will get smoked being imprisoned in the pocket if the ball cannot get out on time and if the defense is not forced to keep the safeties at the 3rd level .

I would respectfully disagree completely. You believe in mirages. I belive in reality. Again, ask the Iowa players what they think of the UCLA game. They were dominated and embarrassed, scoreboard be damned. IMHO, of course.

And Nebraska? Three incredible individual plays turned that fiasco from a devastating loss to one of the most improbable wins in college football history. The last 90 teams, going back to 2001, to have five or fewer first downs all lost. KJ turns a swing pass into a 75 yard TD by breaking a half dozen tackles. Llewellyn strip sacks Nebbie's QB with less than a minute to play. And then Stevens sneaks a 53-yarder inches inside the upright to win at the gun. The entire rest of the game was all Nebraska. You can't just ignore the fact that Iowa couldn't do a damn thing against a mediocre Husker squad. Iowa was inept and embarrassing. Three individual plays changed the outcome. It's that simple.

There are a shit ton available right now, no idea what the cost will be, but wow are there WRs available right now. None of this mentions Juco or FCS guys.

1.) KC Concepcion
2.) Micah Hudson
3.) Johntay Cook
4.) Eric Rivers

There's ZERO chance he goes to Michigan. They just paid BIG $$$ for the top high school QB in the country that they flipped from LSU.
I suspect he included them to drive up the price for his services.
Michigan is going to try to bring in a one year rental. Bryce Underwood is going to play (baring injury) but I think the plan is to create packages for him to get his feet wet and let him take off in 2026. Michigan's returning QB room is horrible.
