Minnesota is ranked #21, but the psychos here believe we should rip the Iowa kids anyway for losing to them on the road in overtime.

Common sense says that when you have a 7-point lead with less than a minute to play, you should win that game, especially if you keep insisting you're going to win the Big Ten and national championships. It doesn't take a psycho to see that Iowa had no business losing that game. Garza and CJF, to name two, said exactly that. They both said, more than once, that "we gave that game away." They did. Plain and simple.

Are other teams good enough to beat Iowa? Sure, anyone in the Big Ten can beat anyone, but if you want to win a championship, you shouldn't lose games like the one @ Minnesota.

Take Wisconsin for example. They were down 9 to MSU at East Lansing the other night, but they stormed back to take the lead and refused to relinquish it. They made the plays they needed to, on both ends, to close that game out with a win. Iowa, on the other hand, did not. As a result, Wisconsin once again--at this juncture--looks like the team to beat for the Big Ten title.

I hate Wisconsin with a passion in both football and basketball. But the facts are the facts. Wisconsin almost always gets it done. Iowa does not.

Until that changes, the Hawkeyes will continue to look up at the Badgers in both sports. You don't need to be a psycho to figure that out.

How about Wisconsin tonight?

I wouldn't sweat the loss. Iowa should have won that game based on the travel at the end. Either way, it's all about the NCAA tourney, as much as you may want to win the B1G championship. By the way, the latest Sagarin rankings have Iowa #3 and Illinois #4, behind the Zags and Baylor. I'd rank the Illini ahead of Iowa though. Baylor is best.

Clearly, as our early rankings show, rankings this time of year don't mean $#!T. We had the game won and due to some underlying problems that seem to keep cropping up on us, we let it get away

Well then fire them......

Doesn't matter whether Carr is all-World or just average B1G. He was the best player on the floor that night and that was the difference.

Minnesota is probably going to fall short of a great team, their lack of front court depth is just going to take them out of a few games.

They did all the things you have to do well to knock off a highly ranked team against us, they hit us with an early run out of the gate, they limited turnovers, and they put on a clinic at the Free Throw line, and always came up with the big bucket when it looked like Iowa might be close to pulling away in the 2nd half. We didn't play our best, not horrible, but we played bad (the first 16 minutes) to good (the next 23 minutes), so it comes up to somewhere around "we played ok".

The reason this one stings is because it was an opportunity lost. If we look at some of the better MSU teams historically, the best Wisconsin teams, etc. they don't blow a game like this. Even though it was on the road, we didn't play all that great, and playing a 7/8/9/10 seed NCAAT team, and they played pretty well....we still could/should have won. GREAT teams find a way to get wins when not playing their best.

If a great team is standing with a guard on the FT line with 2 FTs up 3 with 15 seconds, you'd not like your chances. And when the dice came up snake eyes....we missed 2 FTs and the 3 went in)....hey, it can happen, anyone can miss two free throws and see a game-tying 3 go in. Then there was still a chance to get a better shot with 5+ seconds left, and the fastest player in the Big Ten was sitting on the bench. Then there was also overtime.

So with 5+ seconds left, we were still favored to win the game (ESPN gave us 51.x%).

If we want to win the league and have a 1 or 2 seed in the NCAAT, we have to win 15 or 16 games in the BT, so at minimum we have to go 5-5 or 6-4 on the road....and that's assuming you go 10-0 at home, certainly no guarantee. Now, look at the schedule, look at the road games, and try to plot out a path to 5 or 6 wins in the next 9. It's gonna be real tough.

All good points. Someone posted earlier the win % for Iowa up 7 with 44 seconds left was 96% and change. That seems low to me to be honest, but I'm sure it's correct.

Now that said, if you look at all the things that HAVE to happen for that lead to evaporate, it's a colossal and collective Choke Job by Iowa on both ends of the floor (and give Minny credit, they made the plays Iowa didn't, and they had pressure on them too). Not the first team to do it, and won't be the last. People can substitute their own words for what they want to call it, Free Country and all.....

In contrast to Football where you could lose on a last second hail mary, that's just mostly Luck or a fluke at one moment in time. Lot of things had to go wrong in this BB game, and unfortunately for Iowa they did. It is what it is.

Agree with everything except Baylor being #1. We are good but have to prove it on both ends. I think tonight is a get right game that happens to be against a team ranked 8 spots behind us.

Iowa’s close out defense on the 3 is what kills them. Slow to react and boom, some guy always goes off on Iowa. NW has a guy w/ 3 3’s tonight by half and 5 all year. Seriously boys, man him up with a hand in his face.

That's where Baylor is so good. Veteran athletic defenders who will harass the heck out of your guards. Baylor was ranked #1 much of last season and is even better this year, according to Underwood.
