Iowa needs to play better defense against top-ranked teams. Minnesota is one of them. Iowa is a really good team. We'll find out if they're great.
They were on the verge of being ranked, and they got in because Iowa gave them a gift and pissed away the game. Simple.Iowa needs to play better defense against top-ranked teams. Minnesota is one of them. Iowa is a really good team. We'll find out if they're great.
Marcus Carr is an a All American caliber type player, any team is going to be pretty good with him on it. We have to learn from this game and hopefully will make us stronger.
There are 9 Big Ten teams ranked this week. That is insane! Northwestern is ranked?!?

Maryland just won at Wisconsin.....Minnesota up 44-21 early second half on MSU.
Common sense says that when you have a 7-point lead with less than a minute to play, you should win that game, especially if you keep insisting you're going to win the Big Ten and national championships. It doesn't take a psycho to see that Iowa had no business losing that game. Garza and CJF, to name two, said exactly that. They both said, more than once, that "we gave that game away." They did. Plain and simple.
Are other teams good enough to beat Iowa? Sure, anyone in the Big Ten can beat anyone, but if you want to win a championship, you shouldn't lose games like the one @ Minnesota.
Take Wisconsin for example. They were down 9 to MSU at East Lansing the other night, but they stormed back to take the lead and refused to relinquish it. They made the plays they needed to, on both ends, to close that game out with a win. Iowa, on the other hand, did not. As a result, Wisconsin once again--at this juncture--looks like the team to beat for the Big Ten title.
I hate Wisconsin with a passion in both football and basketball. But the facts are the facts. Wisconsin almost always gets it done. Iowa does not.
Until that changes, the Hawkeyes will continue to look up at the Badgers in both sports. You don't need to be a psycho to figure that out.
not every one but he did on at least one . lolWho travels on every step back three.
I'd prefer not to ever lose to Minnesota again.Iowa needs to play better defense against top-ranked teams. Minnesota is one of them. Iowa is a really good team. We'll find out if they're great.
I'd prefer not to ever lose to Minnesota again.
It is called.....BAU.Clearly, as our early rankings show, rankings this time of year don't mean $#!T. We had the game won and due to some underlying problems that seem to keep cropping up on us, we let it get away
I'd prefer not to ever lose to Minnesota again.
Well then fire them......Bad fans aren't helpful to the team's success.
Take Wisconsin for example.
All good points. Someone posted earlier the win % for Iowa up 7 with 44 seconds left was 96% and change. That seems low to me to be honest, but I'm sure it's correct.Minnesota is probably going to fall short of a great team, their lack of front court depth is just going to take them out of a few games.
They did all the things you have to do well to knock off a highly ranked team against us, they hit us with an early run out of the gate, they limited turnovers, and they put on a clinic at the Free Throw line, and always came up with the big bucket when it looked like Iowa might be close to pulling away in the 2nd half. We didn't play our best, not horrible, but we played bad (the first 16 minutes) to good (the next 23 minutes), so it comes up to somewhere around "we played ok".
The reason this one stings is because it was an opportunity lost. If we look at some of the better MSU teams historically, the best Wisconsin teams, etc. they don't blow a game like this. Even though it was on the road, we didn't play all that great, and playing a 7/8/9/10 seed NCAAT team, and they played pretty well....we still could/should have won. GREAT teams find a way to get wins when not playing their best.
If a great team is standing with a guard on the FT line with 2 FTs up 3 with 15 seconds, you'd not like your chances. And when the dice came up snake eyes....we missed 2 FTs and the 3 went in)....hey, it can happen, anyone can miss two free throws and see a game-tying 3 go in. Then there was still a chance to get a better shot with 5+ seconds left, and the fastest player in the Big Ten was sitting on the bench. Then there was also overtime.
So with 5+ seconds left, we were still favored to win the game (ESPN gave us 51.x%).
If we want to win the league and have a 1 or 2 seed in the NCAAT, we have to win 15 or 16 games in the BT, so at minimum we have to go 5-5 or 6-4 on the road....and that's assuming you go 10-0 at home, certainly no guarantee. Now, look at the schedule, look at the road games, and try to plot out a path to 5 or 6 wins in the next 9. It's gonna be real tough.
I wouldn't sweat the loss. Iowa should have won that game based on the travel at the end. Either way, it's all about the NCAA tourney, as much as you may want to win the B1G championship. By the way, the latest Sagarin rankings have Iowa #3 and Illinois #4, behind the Zags and Baylor. I'd rank the Illini ahead of Iowa though. Baylor is best.

Agree .Who travels on every step back three.
I wouldn't go that far.
He got totally shut down against Ayo Dasumnu.
Carr is all big ten caliber.
Iowa’s close out defense on the 3 is what kills them. Slow to react and boom, some guy always goes off on Iowa. NW has a guy w/ 3 3’s tonight by half and 5 all year. Seriously boys, man him up with a hand in his face.
You guys have a good team. If Dosunmu is on and Cockburn is as well, you guys will be a tough out in the tourney. That's where Baylor is so good. Veteran athletic defenders who will harass the heck out of your guards. Baylor was ranked #1 much of last season and is even better this year, according to Underwood.
