So how would he receive an offer from another school without engaging? That school needs the MN AD permission to talk to any scholarship athlete. This would have to come at the request of the athlete first. So they basically shopped around and then decided it was best to stay "and make things right". It wasn't about staying and making things right from the start. They explored other options. Which is perfectly fine but contrasts to what PBS was implying.

Random former wrestler or friend of the program reaches out to former HS or club coach, speaking hypothetically if such an offer were made would wrestler be interested?

Permission is only needed for coach/representative of University to formally discuss.

The family could have easily received many unsolicited feelers through back channels.

Of course it's important. What you need to consider is that was an "ethical" situation. In other words... something might not ne illegal under NCAA regulations, but it has the look of being something sinister. Robinson was smart enough, and may have even consulted attys in that instance. Some coaches bend rules while not breaking them.

Bottom line for me... Robinson shit in his own bed for whatever reason. Perhaps he thought his stature would save him. I doubt he was that ignorant to not know what he did wouldn't be questioned.

Given the scandalous history of the various Gopher athletic programs, this shouldn't be a surprise. Good luck to Mr. Coyle cleaning up that school.

Their lineup from January on should be pretty formidable in a dual setting. Although I can't see them taking more than 3 matches against us, maybe only 2 if Marinelli is in at 165. They will do better against other teams though.
