Minnesota

Can't believe MSU won. I watched 2/3 of the game and they looked dreadful offensively. Welcome to conference play Minnesota and Rutgers.

Every night in the B1G is going to be a struggle. Get ready for the marathon.

Yesterday showed me 3 things. 1. Wisky is for real when Hayes plays at his level. If he doesn't play good, they are mediocre at best. So if you can catch him on an off night, could be interesting. Maryland looks the part, but Illinois looked horrible. I don't know what Groce is doing, but it ain't working. NW has finally shown up and looks like an NCAA team (but to be fair PSU shot the ball horrible). MSU looks like their old selfs and were able to grind out a win on the road.

2. Road games are going to be tough to win. If Iowa can steal a game or two on the road will pay HUGE dividends down the stretch. Have to protect the home floor every night. No game this year will be a gimme.

3. Guard play is key. Watching those games some of these teams have some elite talent at guard. Going to be tough for Iowa's young backcourt. They are going to have to grow up and be ready to play every night. There are some quick athletic guards.

Overall it should be a fun ride with highs and lows. It gets started tonight @ Purdue.

I would say Iowa has an elite guard in Peter Jok. And we have a rising star in Isiah Moss.
I would say that Peter Jok is an elite scorer, not an elite guard (his handles have a lot to be desired)

Also, how the heck does Pete end up on the ground following so many plays?

Minnesota is by and large the same team as last year. I don't think their talent was 8 win bad last year. 6 or 7 wins in conference is probably more representative of their talent. Don't know if that'll please gopher fans.

Guards can attack the basket but are inconsistent shooting. Frontcourt players aren't really scorers, they're more energy guys. They're going to struggle offensively when they're guards aren't getting easy buckets.

Like your thoughts here Dhawk on yesterdays games. Guard play was impressive to me too. Though, I did not see a shooter like Peter and my hope is that Isaiah, Jordan, Baer, Ellingson, Dom and Williams can follow suit and light it up too from the outside along with some very good low post scoring by Pemsl, Wagner, Cook and Dom again...throw in Kreiner as well cause we are going to need his size.

And of course, we've GOT to play with an attitude on defense and get stops.... game over if we don't.

Probably what you notice most to me and last nights Minny/MSU game sure showed this was just how much the intensity level picks up defensively on each possession....wow.

Get ready young Hawks. I'll also say, we'll see how much for real those Badgers are as they travel to IU and PU for their next two games.

This is when it gets real fun and any given game for every team...win or lose.

golden rodents are a better team that last year. They were all over msu until past the midway point in the second half. However, their failure to close out an msu team minus their best player(Bridges) shows they still have significant issues.
minny may "rip Iowa in the barn", but that's far from a sure thing.

Minnesota will rip Iowa in the barn.

You sure might. I think it's fair to say you now have the talent and coaching level of Illinois. I saw so much hero ball last night I was looking for the capes and leotard costumes to come out.

And no adjustments to when Michigan State went small. None at all.

But, basketball is a funny thing and on the right day you might just rip us, good luck with that. We might just rip you.
