Surprising. The staff continuity was their greatest attribute. Selecting Claeys as HC seemed to acknowledge that. After some tough losses perhaps Claeys felt some pressure already to make some changes. I would guess that he conferred with Jerry first.

I don't think TC is going to be the right guy for that job.. I liked Kill and he was pretty mellow but Claeys is just downright boring!

it's an interesting situation for sure. I think Claeys is the longest running assistant to Kill, but Limegrover has been around for quite some time as well.

Part of me wonders if Limegrover wanted the job that Claeys just got and it caused some internal turmoil.............................? That was a swift kick out the door those 2 just got from Claeys. I think there is more to the story than a "philosophical" difference about the Offense. It has more of a "this is my team and you can kiss my ass" kind of feel to it.

That decision had to have already been well in the works, and their Offense played better down the stretch than they did in some of their lackluster wins early on in the season.

I'd have a hard time believing Kill gave his blessing to oust Limegrover, a guy he's brought with him on several stops since 1999 I believe................................

At any rate, we shall see what happens down the road for Claeys and the Gophs.

I remember just a few short months ago their fans claiming how they have passed Iowa and were on the door to the next level.

3 months later Iowa has a title shot and playoff berth on the line. While minny is hoping to back door their was into the pizza pizza bowl in Detroit.

Agreed, strange turn of events. I would have thought that part of the allure of keeping Claeys was to keep the band together. Maybe the administration "forced" the change? I would guess that the administration thought that Kill and Claeys are the correct "culture fit" at Minnesota ... but maybe they want a better fit on O too?

As others have suggested ... I wonder if perhaps this really was the result of some internal politics ... vying for positioning on the staff.

It seems to me that after Phil Parker got the DC gig at Iowa ... that may have impacted the dynamic on the staff ... and that prompted Ferentz to have to make the added changes that he ended up making.

I have a feeling Claeys will not be consulting Kill now that 2015 is over. I think Claeys wants this to be his program, and he will make the changes to reflect that for better or worse.

Monday morning humor. From a frequent poster at the gopherhole before the season " I think both Iowa and Wisconsin will be hurting on defense. Iowa may struggle to get 6 wins".

Though to be fair, many Hawkeye posters were predicting <6 wins coming into the year as well. Don't think our defense was our biggest question mark though.

I know it is stupid but does Claeys look like a guy that will be successful?

I am not above judging a book by its cover.

Fact is when Minnesota gets a real AD Claeys days will be numbered.

Claeys got a BS contract to ride this thing out. 2 year contract does not build a program. What recruit would sign with a coach that only has 2 years? The whole thing is a set up for decades of failure...

It was 3, but same difference

You guys missed the most obvious reason: this move opens up more money in the food budget.
