Listening to Pat Hughes call the Cubs game yesterday he tried to stump Ron Coomer with this question. Name the three MLB players who have hit a homer as a teenager, and over the age of 40?
I'll give a tiny hint. One of them is an old timey player, and one of the greatest to ever play the game. One was best known to fans of my age as a chunky pinch hitting specialist as his career wound down. And there is one player who was most prominent in the 1990s.

I'd guess Ken Griffey jr is 1 of them.
Rusty Staub?

Just looked it up...there are 4, not 3. And two were prominent in the 90s.

Name the one I'm not thinking of? ;)
Hughes said he only verified three players, but, he thought there might be another one.

There are actually 4 players that did it.

I am a little shocked the old time player didn't pop up already.

Was it Stan the Man?

Edit - just looked it up and Musial was 20 when he made his MLB debut. I’m changing my answer to Ty Cobb.

Thought Beltre but looked it up and he missed it by half a year

Julio Franco.....(only because I know he had to be 45 or so when he hit his last MLB homerun). No idea how young he was coming up.

I see his response……now.

But pretty sure when I read about Hank, he was plucked from the Negro leagues at 18, and I swear I remember he hit his first MLB homer at 19. Then, we all had to wait a full off season for him to come back and break the record, at like 43? I’m gonna go look it up!

Before reading the thread my guesses are

Hank Aaron
Ken Griffey Jr
A Rod?

Cobb, Staub, Sheffield, and A-Rod.
It seems like the hitting a homer as a teen portion is the hardest aspect.
Damn, I only got one. Cobb didn't hit many dingers so that one surprised me. Could have been an inside the park home run back then though which would obviously still count and not surprise me one bit.
