Mocco's View of Iowa and OSU Atmosphere

I was just a young kid back then but I think you are correct. Just an ornery sports crowd back in those days.

Please don't generalize then entire state by how Eagle fans acted back in the 70s, lol. Amusing looking back now but at the time they were probably one of the worse fan bases of all time.

Occasionally there is a relapse in Philly....

From USA Today 2010-04-16

<<Philadelphia has always been known for having tough crowds, but bad fan behavior there may have hit a new low at a Phillies game this week. There, a 21-year-old fan allegedly vomited intentionally on the 11-year-old daughter of an off-duty cop.

"It was the most vile, disgusting thing I've ever seen, and I've been a cop for 20 years," Easton Police Capt. Michael Vangelo told the Philadelphia Daily News.

Vangelo said he complained to security about cursing and spitting by Clemmens and a friend. When the friend was escorted out of the park, Vangelo said, Clemmens "leaned over and put two fingers down his throat" and then "started vomiting on us."

Philadelphia police spokesman Lt. Frank Vanore said Clemmens fought with police and "threw up on one officer" before being removed.>>

I went to the Big Tens tournament one year when it was at Northwestern.....early 2000's maybe or late 1990's. I was pumped because I got tickets in the heart of the Iowa section. It was awful. Fans were yelling stalling after one step backwards, and it only got worse from there. I love their passion, etc but I personally have no interest in sitting with them. I am more reserved, love great wrestling, and call it like i I see it....not just with black/gold glasses on. When an Iowa guy is stalling, I want it called. When an opponent is stalling, I want it called. The mindless yelling is not my kind of experience. Growing up, my dad would always get NCAA tickets through UNI and I loved those seats. Not the best in the house, but the fans perspective, passion, and respect was great and I guess I got spoiled with that!

With all of this said, I WILL be in Carver when nearly 16000 people come to watch Iowa rumble with Penn State! And, for the first time, I will be bringing my boy with me. I hope he loves it as much as I do.

You do know you're posting on an Iowa Wrestling board right? Why come on here and insult the fan base?

Congratulations...although you might want to rethink it because you will have close to 16,000 assholes yelling instead of just a section...since you have no interest in it. Maybe you can find some PSU fans to sit with because they never call for stalling :D

My favorite story about the fans in PA is when Franco made the immaculate reception against the Raiders in the AFC championship game. A flag was thrown and the officials were not sure if the play had to be called back. They got together and decided that there was not enough security in the stadium to get the officials out alive if they reversed the call. Just a story. I am not sure if it is totally true, but it sure seems to fit the attitude of PA fans.
Pittsburgh has a statue of Franco making the catch in their airport. Sort of like the Gable start outside CHA. I think PA is a bit crazier as far as fans go or maybe there are just more of them.
Iowa people still have some of that midwestern morals and charm.. They feel bad after they rip someone a new one.

Comparing the two programs from that time is like comparing apples to oranges. Mocco was at Iowa in 2002 and 2003. The Hawks string of 6 straight NCAA Titles had just been snapped in 2001, and it was obvious the program was headed in the wrong direction under Zalesky. Iowa fans were not happy.

Mocco was at Okie State in 2005 and 2006. This was during their run of 4 straight titles. Obviously, their fans were on cloud nine during that time.

They booed santa because he was drunk. We take undue flack for that. However in general Philly fans are savage.
Eagle fans are savage (I would not recommend taking anyone under the age of 18 to an eagle game), I have never seen that kind of crap at a phillies or sixers game and have been to dozens of both, I however stopped going to eagle games after 2....but you are correct that Drunk Santa deserved the flack he got from the real story I read about

NFL games are horrible - filled with bellicose, overgrown children wearing jerseys of their heroes and drunk on bad beer. Hence the firefighter put into a coma outside a Niners game, serial cases of drunk dumbasses dying after falling from escalators, etc.

Eagle fans get the press, but there are several fan bases (Raiders in particular), that lead the way in truly violent behavior recently.

The NFL and its franchises could solve many problems by seriously cutting down on the drinking, but advertisers would go crazy.

Hell that is nothing. Pennsylvania fans boo'd Santa Claus for crying out loud. Being an athlete in Iowa is as good as it gets. Much less venom than the coastal and southern areas.

Weak. Do you have any examples that are more recent than 6 decades ago?

I've seen these boards absolutely crucify your wrestlers- recall one young man some years ago, up a weight class no less, giving his all for the Black and Yellow....getting the bum's rush here and mocking his lack of hair at that.

Seems some of you have a lot of social media guts.....would have loved to seen you say it to his face.
