Monday Morning

Saw a post on Hawkeye Heaven's facebook about a 12 yr old who gained her wings at the Children's Hospital a few hours after seeing the 1st quarter wave. Over the game after seeing that. Far greater battles are going on there to dwell on anything that happens at Kinnick. On to Michigan State. I still hear the Go White, Go Green in my sleep.

Not at all. Tough loss for sure, but these guys will respond. Too much season left.

Little chance for a let down. This team has so much to learn, so much to prove. Some position groups have outstanding potential and just need to pick it up.

This is going to be a fun team to watch. Might be Kirk’s best developmental team in years 02, 03

I am more so this year, excited for the future. I see good things and a change in trend, which I can't say I have felt in a while. I am as die hard as they come while still being realistic. There is much to be hopefully for right now. This team showed a lot of heart on Saturday night. I felt the passion was there and recruiting is trending in right direction. Be realistic, we are not going to have top 10 classes and will be hit and miss. and man, is Eppy going to be good

I'll only be mad if they prove that they didn't learn from the experience of that PSU game.
  • The offense faced off against 60%+ blitzing. You better learn from that. The positives is that Stanley didn't seem to get rattled and we ultimately were able to move the ball. Hopefully next time, it doesn't take so long to get the Iowa O out of neutral.
  • An odd trade-off is that our OL is missing some of their blocking in the running game - but against so much pressure, they only gave up one sack. While they still need to improve in pass pro, hopefully they can continue to make strides in their run-blocking.
  • The secondary, all things considered, is a young group. They're going to need to keep on improving. We like to do a lot of zone-coverage ... hopefully, as the season progresses, they can tighten up the windows in those zones. There will always be windows in zone-coverage ... however, the ability of a DB to read the quarterback and WR and close those windows quickly ... that is what can differentiate between a good secondary and a "smothering" secondary.
  • I understand that Barkley is rather otherworldly ... but our run D still has to work on improving. Our run D still pales in comparison to what I was expecting from them. Tackling also, obviously, needs to improve. MSU's RB is another tough runner who can grind you down by the 4th quarter.
  • The D faced off against yet another mobile QB in McSorley ... and he won't be the last. MSU's QB has been rushing for quite a few yards this season too. Northwestern's Thorson can run too ... as can OSU's Barrett ... thus, the DL and LBs need to continue to work on containing such QBs.

Yeah, OL definitely getting better in pass protecting and picking up blitzes. With the running game, it is not only he OL missing some blocks but TEs and WRs as well.

MSU's runner is tough but not even in the same atmosphere as Barkely. Barkely is more tough, faster, and has way better ability to cut and make people miss.

Great catch on the blocking of the TEs and WRs. Of course, we knew that would be the trade-off of their play ... they offer more in the passing game, but offer less in the running game. It's a risk-reward scenario ... but ultimately those guys will improve (they better) ... and the benefit we gain from having a 2-dimensional O will reap more and more rewards.

My thoughts exactly!

Was never angry.
The defense somehow made bend but don't break work for 59 minutes and 56 seconds against an offensive team that had them significantly outgunned. That's a near impossible task and they almost pulled it off.

Umm...Yea.....what he said!! My feelings exactly

I don't think you stole the ISU game. The teams were pretty evenly matched. 3:07 to play, on your own 11, down 7 points, no timeouts remaining.....from an ISU perspective, there's no way in hell we should have let you score. From your perspective, you put on a great drive and earned the victory. Both perspectives are correct.

If you had beaten Penn State, I'd say it would be fair to say you stole it. The defense earned a win and you would have deserved it, don't get me wrong; but I think Penn State would win most games with Iowa this year.

If you are angry at the result of a game played by 20 somethings then you need to shift your priorities.

So is the lying Ped State Joe Ped crap.
Can't believe I'm even engaging your troll garbage but I'm curious now ....so you think all of those victims are just 'alleged' victims and are lying about what happened....?

And if it bothers you there is a simple solution...that being go back to your own delusional boards.

Didn't have a damn thing to do with Paterno or Penn State Football. Except to losers, liars, idiots and trolls.

Trolls? Sure. Idiots? Sometimes. Liars? Hey we didn't make up the story buddy so can't say we are lying about anything. If it hurts that bad...then walk away chief.

The sun has risen twice now since the game ended..................

And I'm still mad. F*** Penn State. Bring everyone back. Re-do the final play. Have McSorely get sacked, fumble the ball, and in the scramble, the ball gets kicked into his nuts and then there's a pile up, the whistle blows, and the game is over. Hawks win.

Do that and we'll be good to go. You're welcome.

Yes I am let down Iowa did not win. The fact is to have a "special" year at Iowa it requires winning a game like the PSU one and yes "stealing" a game or two like we did @ ISU.

We avoided getting upset by Iowa State. We didn't steal anything.

When you hold Penn State to 21 points and lose on the final play of the game and then beat Iowa State in OT after giving up 41......what does that tell you about our opponents? What does that tell you about us?

Is Iowa State better than Penn State because ISU scored more even though we won that game in OT?

Post of the year.

As a father of five kids, blessed that they are all healthy, the facility set up there at the stadium for those kids was better than even the most exciting game could give us.

Completely off topic, it's also nice to see that standing up for the NA isn't a problem for student athletes, at least not yet. CFB is still a great game, and y'all have got one of the best venues.

All this game did was reaffirm my love for the Hawks. Win some, lose some, but darn it these have grit. Sure upset at the non review where Barkleys knee was down, or the call that got us a safety...

It was gutsy brawl, and we lost. It's the attitude I like and losing a game as this can almost do more for a teams mental side than winning...
