1. Some reports that Cade is out for the year — we haven't independently verified (and Iowa is not pleased about the report coming out) but as soon as we can, we'll report it. Awful news but not a surprise; we all saw the replays.
2. Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, Eliot and I are here in Iowa City for the men's basketball media day. Will report elsewhere here on the Premium Board, but big takeaways are as follows:
- Fran is happy going 12-deep this year, says all four freshmen are not only going to play this year but he'd be comfortable with starting them. Strongly doubt we actually see that materialize unless things go awfully wrong for the upperclassmen, but there's no brake-pumping with Fran about this year's class.
- Krikke's physically ready for the B1G — "not a whole lot of guys in the league bigger than that" — and should have an easier time than at Valpo now that he won't be drawing doubles on such a regular basis.
- Brock Harding has made a "seamless transition" to the college game, and Owen Freeman is "going to be an impact player" for the Hawkeyes.
- A lot of versatility in the backcourt, especially with guys capable of running the point. Fran said Dix and Bowen probably should have played more last year.
3. Kickoff at Camp Randall announced for 3 PM Saturday, game on Fox. Haven't been able to watch any of the broadcasts this season, but consensus on the boards and social media while games are happening is that the broadcast is much better on NBC. Has that been y'all's experience thus far?
4. Ears and eyes are out for commitment watch on some of the prospects (FB and BB) that visited Saturday. If Iowa can land 2024 PF Pharaoh Compton, that's some big-league physicality being lined up for the frontcourt. He's a real close-to-the-vest guy though.
5. Caitlin Clark will be on First Take on Friday morning, televised from the Pentacrest. That wasn't just a one-year run as a superstar, folks. On that note, we'll have some announcements coming soon about our basketball coverage this year. Definitely an exciting time to be a subscriber as we stay connected to both hoops programs.
6. Will be writing more about Cooper DeJean's punt return after I get more quotes tomorrow, but that was every bit as impressive as any of Tim Dwight's return TDs. Never thought I'd see the day when someone in a Hawkeye uniform stood toe-to-toe with Superman Wearing #6, but Coop is just undeniable.
What are you all hoping to learn about the football team or either hoops team this week? Thanks for your support!
