Montana ending $300 fed assistant to unem

So it's not because of the unemployment benefits, then why are people not returning to work? Why is almost every business looking for people, but can't find them?

I don't think some of you realize how bad of situation this is.

Don’t double down.

Like the guy above said, it’s such a lazy trope. Every “handout” that has you worried amounts to throwing a guy surrounded in all directions by a hundred miles of shark infested water a life preserver. It might solve one of many problems, briefly. No one with bills is banking the pocket change being tossed their way.

Why are you so willfully ignorant on this? First you say $300 isn’t enough to keep people from looking for work. Then you’re made aware that the $300 is on top of the normal unemployment benefits. Then you’re reminded of the eviction moratorium, and you still have your head up your ass.

I have a buddy who’s pulling in about $48000/year collecting unemployment. He’s playing stay at home dad for now.

Which doesn’t amount to anything a person can live on. Get a hold of yourself, ffs.
You’re clueless. Iowa max unemployment is like 512 single, add like 20 bucks per dependent.. so a single guy with no kids could make 812 week tax free. That’s 42k a year in Iowa. Most people could live of that in Iowa.

With the $300 weekly stipend from the feds North Dakota is paying a max of $918/week, almost $48000/year. Pretty easy to find work for cash under the table on top of that for a couple months out of the year too.

I hear of worker shortages all over the map, every industry, every company seems to be hiring. So Montana is ending the $300 weekly giveaway to the unemployed.

The governor approved a $1,200 payment to anyone who gets off unemployment and stays at the job for four weeks (for some reason the national news stories like below buried the $1,200 incentive).

Personally I think it’s a great incentive to get people back to work.

Montana ending unemployment fee giveaway.
Now pay livable wages. I hear about the $10.5 an hour bakery in MT with no benefits who can't find workers. Gee why is that.

Surveys suggest why some can’t or won’t go back to work. Millions of adults say they aren’t working for fear of getting or spreading Covid-19. Businesses are reopening ahead of schools, leaving some parents without child care. Many people are receiving more in unemployment benefits than they would earn in the available jobs. Some who are out of work don’t have the skills needed for jobs that are available or are unwilling to switch to a new career.

Saw an article today about trucker shortages:

$14k a week to truckers.
Trucking has a lot of problems. The lifestyle isn't great to begin with, but in a world where everything gets there the next day, it makes for a lot of night time driving. If it has to be there on Monday, that means you drive on Sunday. If it has to be there on 12/26, it means you are working on 12/25. It isn't a healthy lifestyle, and the pandemic made it worse. You spend your work day driving with morons, including other truck drivers who have an iPad attached to their dash so they can watch The Mayans while they drive. And, to top it all off if your $125,000 truck breaks down you spend three nights in a sh***y motel because guys like Tyler won't keep a $25 part on their shelf anymore. They expect it to come overnight when needed. On a truck.

Especially post-derecho. LOTS of cash only, on the side work still going on now. Roofing, siding, gutters, general cleanup, etc.

Your persistent willful ignorance in this thread is staggering.

Let's say you normally make $20/hour, 40 hours/week. That's $800 a week.

With pandemic unemployment you can get $400 regular unemployment plus the additional $300. That's $700 a week to stay home and do nothing. A lot of people figure there's no point in working 40 hours a week to make an additional $100.

After gas and child care, they're losing money by going to work.

To receive the max amount of UB, one had to be making a nice living (an actual nice living) for quite a while. These aren’t people who were formally working the grill at Burger King. So:

a.) they’ve earned everything they have coming to them by paying into unemployment.

b.) do you know anyone making 80,000 who’d be content making half that?

Again, no one is getting rich here. This isn’t an actual problem. It’s Bill Gates using 5G to make us zombies. It’s a trans girl playing sports. It’s bamboo traces on Arizona ballots. It’s manufactured BS you conservatives use to work yourselves into a lather.

But it’s not real.

You guys enjoy your Biden derangement syndrome, now!

I'm in manufacturing, it's been breaking our backs since June. I've averaged 60 hours a week. A lot of the time our only relief is running out of material.

It actually pisses me off that we don't allow enough immigrants in legally to help fill some of the holes. We're begging for help to fill $22 an hour jobs. My Daughter's employer's in the same position with welders.
There's your answer. This isn't a new problem, it's just been exacerbated by the pandemic.

Our nation needs many more immigrants starting a couple decades ago.

No one claimed anyone was getting rich. Good grief, you're a moron.

Over the road drivers are not hauling your Amazon packages next day.

I wish I could explain how bad the part situation right now is in the trucking industry.

Parts aren't being made because the manufacturers can't find employees.

Trucks aren't running because they are broke down.

That means at some point people will stop getting their shit.

For whatever reason people are not coming back to work, and it's a huge issue.

Not only are parts not getting made, the prices are climbing through the roof.

They sure are unless we are somehow talking about different things. If it leaves an Amazon fulfillment center, or a large UPS/Fed Ex hub at 20:00 it isn't always flying to it's destination.

Somebody making $80,000 or $40 an hour isn’t the type of person that would be taking any of the 15-20$ an hour jobs that are available anyway.

Somebody that was making $15 an hour or about $30,000 a year might have their highest earning quarter at $7500 for the year before. With no dependents, a single guy would normally be eligible for $326.08 a week at that wage. Add on the extra $300 he’d get $626.08 a week. That would be $15.65 on a 40 hour week. More than what they were making before.

Somebody that made $20 an hour or $40000 a year, would get $434.78 normally or $734.78 now with the extra $300, which would be $18.36 on a 40 hour week. Why go back to work for $20 an hour when you can make $18.36 for doing nothing?

It's complex, and there is not one single answer. Lot's of people are not able to go back to the workforce right now for a variety of reasons. There is also a worker shortage, something that has been exacerbated by the dysfunctional immigration policy the last few years.

This has one on a hell of a lot longer than the last few years.

The Federal government should not be paying people to stay home! People have migrated across this country for work for as long as we have been a country. If the jobs are in South Dakota or Nebraska, let the people move in and go to work.

It isn't the 1920s. People do not migrate as easily as they once did. And, yes, the last few years was much worse when it comes to legal immigration, and in regards to work visas.

Do any of you who are having trouble hiring drug test? In listening to some of the people who may be the target group that traditionally would do those jobs they are not wanting to deal with drug testing. With marijuana being legalized in more states I’m not sure how employers are adapting to that.

I've suggested we change the pee test to a yes or no question. We lost a few.
