Montana ending $300 fed assistant to unem

Do any of you who are having trouble hiring drug test? In listening to some of the people who may be the target group that traditionally would do those jobs they are not wanting to deal with drug testing. With marijuana being legalized in more states I’m not sure how employers are adapting to that.

We're required by law to perform pre-employment drug testing in North Carolina.

Not in the other states where we operate, so that only happens in North Carolina.

It isn't the 1920s. People do not migrate as easily as they once did. And, yes, the last few years was much worse when it comes to legal immigration, and in regards to work visas.
People don't migrate because they're being paid to stay home. Plain and simple.

Very soon those who paid federal taxes on 2020 unemployment benefits are going to get some if not all back. So if you paid fed taxes on the first $10,200. You're getting an extra $1020 coming your way if you had 10% withheld.

Seems like it would be fraud. Are people actually committing unemployment fraud to avoid work? I have a hard time believing this is a widespread problem.
People were committing unemployment fraud before I started in business in 1989. I've had people call me to help them fraud the state. And it's always to keep from working.

(Can't wait to see how you alter my words.)

If it’s such a great deal I wonder why you all are still working.
Two main reasons - 1) We make a lot more than $20/hour, so the extra $300/week on top of normal unemployment benefits wouldn’t be enough to compel us to stay home, and 2) We have careers, not jobs. We were doing what we do long before the pandemic started and we’ll still be doing it long after the pandemic is over.

So just so it's clear not everyone who is receiving the 300 per week is totally unemployed or not going to work.
I work in the airlines and as many of you know the travel industry was gutted when Covid hit. I was down to 13 hours a week and have recently gotten back to around 25.
Point is I was considered an essential employee and never stopped going to work. I did and still do receive that extra benefit, but it's not because I'm sitting home watching Netflix and eating oreos. Hopefully the travel will come back but we don't really know. I'm sure there is more of this out there .
Now if people are deliberately not going back to work to sit on their a$$ then yeah that's a problem, but I'm guessing anyone who has any personal pride wants to be working. I sure as hell know if I didn't have something to occupy my time I would lose my mind.

Jobs report will be coming out in a few hours. If the economy added a lot of jobs doesn't that make swiss cheese out of the unemployment benefits argument?

Thanks for the bold font. Yes, people are taking advantage of it. End of statement.

FWIW, in a case like you describe, I totally support there being some form of relief provided. My disdain is reserved for those that accept the free money and do have the means to return to work, but choose not to.

not all of us live near an amazon werehouse.
and McDonalds doesn't pay a living wage...bro
Maybe the biggest thing we could say is if it's not affecting you personally then why spend any time bitching about it?

Don’t know how that could be tracked or traced. But I know some rules used to be around a requirement that you show you are actively searching employment to qualify for benefits and the employment office would assist those in identifying open positions.
The issue is there are way too many people on unemployment for those who work at the unemployment office to track. The same thing happened back in 2008. The system was overwhelmed to the point the unemployment offices were struggling just to get claims processed much less follow up on if people were seeking new employment. There can also be messages from higher up in government to not track down the fraud as it's bad PR to kick people off unemployment and sometimes it is just cheaper to let it go (costs more to track it down than the gov't saves).

I'm going to also guess that those working for HUD that handle rental assistance aren't on the hunt for fraud and unauthorized assistance right now. I bet they are also struggling to handle the processing for Section 8 vouchers and not really looking for fraud. Again, bad PR for the politicians to deny benefits during a pandemic.

I totally agree. In my case Im 15 years in and can retire with full benefits at 52 which isn't too far down the line for me. I sure as hell am not starting over. Ill roll with the payments until my employment gets back to normal and then everything will be peachy. As i said to someone else, problem is everyone wants to jump on people when they accept some sort of aid, and in reality how does it personally affect them? Answer: it doesn't! So why spend anytime bitching about it. If you are working and don't have any issues then be happy about it and don't worry what joe smith is doing next door!

Why are you typing in bold?

Also, it is impacting everyone. If you don’t realize that then you shouldn’t post about it.

There is a huge issue with people not returning to work, and it's going to hurt us all at some point.

In my line of work, trucking, it starts with the part manufacturer who can't hire people to make the parts, then Fed Ex is short handed and having terrible turn around time, then the dealer(me) can't find people to fix the truck, then the trucks dont run, then your frieght doesn't get deliverd.

It's all going to come to a head this summer I am afaid. There are shortages of employees everywhere.

I can't explain it.
I don't have the solutions.

But we can't keep pretending it isn't a problem.
We (lawn and landscaping) absolutely can’t find people to work. A full-time employee starts at $15/hour, and if they have any sort of gumption, can elevate a few more dollars in fairly short order.

Over the road drivers are not hauling your Amazon packages next day.

I wish I could explain how bad the part situation right now is in the trucking industry.

Parts aren't being made because the manufacturers can't find employees.

Trucks aren't running because they are broke down.

That means at some point people will stop getting their shit.

For whatever reason people are not coming back to work, and it's a huge issue.
Actually there is a reason people are not coming back to work. FRICKIN GOVERNMENT HANDOUTS.

Jobs report will be coming out in a few hours. If the economy added a lot of jobs doesn't that make swiss cheese out of the unemployment benefits argument?
No it is only adding jobs because of pandemic recovery. We were short workers before pandemic and now the freeloading has exaggerated the problem.

yeah you're right it is, and I paid in my unemployment insurance for years for moments like this so you better damn well believe I'm gonna use it when I need it.
And I have been posting like this for damn near a decade. So if you don't like it tough crap....my point still stands. We have too many damn people who need to make others business their own. We need less bitching and just more understanding. You have no idea what people's situation are. Everyone should just mind their own damn business.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you disqualified from benefits if you are offered work?

I believe that you are required to apply for employment but you are not required to accept,.. The clock is ticking however, and when your unemployment benefits run out, you're done.

You must know me very well to know whether or not I understand what the situations are. Sorry when I hear from our HR department, other businesses and some of the freeloaders themselves I think I have a pretty good understanding. But carry on telling people to mind their own business when our tax dollars and future tax dollars are paying for this when there are plenty of good paying jobs out there.

Do these good paying jobs provide any kind of health insurance or any other benefits?
I don't argue the point about future taxes at all. No question my kids aged 11,9 and 5 will feel the burn on this. If you have an easy answer for this issue I would love to hear it.

Totally agree with this statement,.. but not at all for the reason you posted it.
That's cool man...we are all entitled to our own opinions.
I suspect no one has the answer to fixing the problem. I call it as i see it affecting my own household. Maybe that's selfish of me but I suspect there is no one out there on this planet looking out for my well being.

That was certainly changing due to supply and demand.
Finding enough workers for these jobs was already a problem before the pandemic. Like everything else, the pandemic seems to have accelerated the cracks in whatever weak spots we had.

Worker shortage pre-pandemic was a totally different animal than the current worker shortage...
