Iowa trails only Illinois & Purdue when looking at the B1G.

Interesting stat, the hawks have the one conf tourney championship in that time. It would have been great if in one of those seasons the hawks could have had a great regular season record and took home that trophy

Boasting about the number of conference wins over a selected stretch is like spending a paycheck on a date and getting a handshake at the end of the night. It only has value if you’re getting the desired rewards.

If Fran could win a goddamn NCAA tourney game or two the conference wins might mean something. 14 years at Iowa and he has never sniffed Sweet 16 panties.

I disagree with you, and you're vulgar.

Look at the programs on that list. Those are basically the best programs in the country in recent history. It's not meaningless to be ranked among them. It's just not. It's not meaningless to recruits. It's not meaningless to media. It's not meaningless for pre-season tournament consideration and scheduling. It's not meaningless to cbb fans (with IQs over 80).

Do we need more post season success? Yes. But as long as you're making it to the tourney with a decent seed, you have a chance. We're doing that.

As noted above, Iowa trails only Illinois & Purdue in B1G conference wins over the last 5 years. Nevertheless, we hear "fire Fran" a lot. Check this out:

The Top 5 B1G teams over the last 5 years have had no coaching changes:

#1 Purdue: Matt Painter has been HC the last 19 years
#1 Illinois: Brad Underwood has been HC the last 7 years
#3 Iowa:
Fran has been HC the last 14 years
#3 Wisconsin: Greg Gard has been HC the last 9 years
#5 Michigan State: Tom Izzo has been HC the last 29 years

Coaching Changes occurred over the last 5 years with the next 6 B1G teams:

#6 OSU--Ohio State fired Chis Holtmann in Feb 2024.

#7 Rutgers--Steve Pikiell has been HC the last 8 seasons.

#8 Indiana--Indiana fired Archie Miller in March 2021 and hired Mike Woodson as the replacement

#9 Maryland--Maryland's Mark Turgeon resigned in December 2021. Danny Manning was interim coach. In March 2022 Maryland hired Kevin Willard.

#10 Penn State--Pat Chambers resigned in Oct 2020. Jim Ferry was interim HC from 2020-21. Micah Shrewsberry was HC from 2021-23 and left for Notre Dame. Mike Rhoades is the current head coach.

#11 Michigan--Michigan fired Juwan Howard in March, 2024 after 5 seasons.

Fran is the third longest tenured coach in the league, and has never won a big ten regular season title or been to a sweet sixteen. The two coaches more senior than him have both won multiple big ten titles and been to final fours, and national championship games. Several big ten coaches who have been fired during Fran's tenure had won big ten regular season titles. One had been to the elite eight.

Iowa Men's Basketball Coach -- the only position with more job security and fewer expectations than the United States Congress.

So, should Beth fire Fran and shake things up?

The regular season and conference titles stopped being meaningful years ago. Those things only matter insomuch as it provides a team with a good seed in the Tourney. Right or wrong, it's all about a) getting to the Tourney, and b) what you do in the Tourney. That's how teams and coaches are judged.

Nothing will change this season no matter how much more athletic we have become.

These #'s are completely irrelevant as we haven't won squat with Fran outside of one btt but the OP will keep smokin Fran' s pole

Not to those of us who have been around for awhile and were there for the last league championship (tie) in 1979. I feel the same way about winning the regular season title as I did about the Cubs winning a WS. Just hoping it happens again in my lifetime (the clock is ticking).

Do 2 different people post on this account?

Why do you ask?

I don't see anything inconsistent with saying that it's significant to have a lot of conference wins but also significant to have had little post season success and/or actual hardware. Both things matter.
