MSU fans are probably more confident about a title than some here

There are still 8 big ten teams that have a chance at the title! Is it more likely for some than others? Obviously.....
Should Iowa be on the likely side....YES

How can we get there?

4-0 HANDLE BUSINESS AND WIN OUR NEXT 4 TO GET OUTRIGHT TITLE!!!

Go 3-1 including a win against IU(loss to IU=need a little help). Guarantees at least a share of title. Not gonna happen if we play how we've been playing. BUT I see no need to expect the worst for WI @ home after a week off and with a whole week to prepare. Tonight made the game look even more favorable......It also made it clear that MSU will be ready for their share of the title if the to 3 keep slipping.

IU is senior night and except for the crazy run against MI, they haven't done much on the road. Win our 2 home games and take one of our road games.

2-2 including win against IU. Would need help though. Another MD loss(the way the play on the road...seems likely PU or IU). And another loss for IU(either purdue or MD)...either way probably need a little help from purdue.

2-2 with a loss to IU. Gonna need some serious help

1-3 Forget about it.... Probably shouldn't say that with all the crazy things this year....

This is far from over!

Personally I'll go with 3-1 with a win over IN....don't want to be too greedy and who wants to win with help? :D

Maybe I'm just bringing out the cubs fan in me?

Who knows? Few among us saw Iowa losing @ PSU and even fewer thought Maryland would lose to Minnesota. It has been a really fun and at times a maddening season. Fasten your seat belts!!

I think we go 3-1 and beat IU to win the title. However, just going 2-2 as long as we beat IU probably gives us a share. I think Maryland loses another somewhere.

To add to this, those 8 teams still in contention play a total of 21 more games this season. There are 2.1 million combinations of ways those 21 games can play out that - at this point - all have an impact on who wins the title.

I'm not a mathematician so my math could be completely wrong here...

...but even if Indiana and Maryland each win their next home game, 45.2% of scenarios give Iowa at least a share of the B1G title. 20.1% of scenarios give Iowa the B1G title outright.

Of course, the main flawed assumption here is that every game on the slate is a 50/50, but it does show that the Hawks are in a great position to win the league title.

Of 524k possibilities (narrowed down by Indiana win vs Purdue & Maryland win vs Michigan):

Honestly, I think MSU fans are just trying to get as high a seed for the dance as possible. We acknowledge that Iowa has been the best B1G team all year and there is no way we can catch you. You are having a great season!

I have a sneaky feeling MSU is going to wind up with a share at the very least. Probably would be my favorite for the B10 Tourney no matter what.

Depth usually pays dividends late, and it's starting to do that for them now.

sparty looking good lately. Very glad Hawks got them at the start of conference play.
I don't count them out for a share of the title. 14 wins is the magic number. Hope Hawks get there, but I'm thinking more likely they go 2-2. I REALLY want one of those to be a win over indy.

MSU was impressive last night. With a few exceptions, they seem to peak about this time every season. My guess is that they will share the title with the Hawks.

I know with unbalanced titles it is a share but if you sweep an opponent it still counts as a share as well for League title, I get we would have the BIG tourney tie breaker for seed just wondering about league title for season.

One tie all tie.

2000-2001 Big Ten title was shared by Michigan State & Illinois despite Illinois beating Michigan State in their only meeting.

The Big Ten does not even have a documented tie-breaker for determining league champion. The tie-breaker rules they publish specifically state they are for use in determining tournament seed.

I get the 1 time meeting being a share but if you sweep an opponent thought maybe there was a shot of not having a tie but probably not.

The reason MSU feels good is that they are playing the best basketball. They have, maybe, the best player in college basketball and maybe the best coach. I see why they feel confident. The BIG season is going to be a dog fight til the end and the teams that are motivated, prepared and play as a team should have a good chance at the title.

History tells us Sparty is going to go deep in both tournaments this year. Like others, I'm glad we got to them early without Valentine and then early with Valentine returned. We may see them again in the BTT but otherwise I want no part of that team again.

Tell tell me more about this auction. Sounds interesting. I do a 4 player draft which is crazy fun!
We have 10 teams, you can have multiple people on your team to help finance. Each team throws out a team in the field of 64 and the price and then there is an open auction for what you would bid for said team. So you can have strategy throwing out random teams or teams you are not a fan of to get them out of the way or bid up on, etc etc etc. The total pot/amount of funds committed is then paid out a % of each round your team or teams win. The later the round gets the more of a % of total pot you get and when it is all said and done we break down all of the figures, amounts you paid for each team, how your team did, % you earned of total pot and if you have a surplus you get paid from the pot or if you owe you pay in which goes to the winners who had a surplus. It is pretty intense. And I cannot even imagine how this year is goign to go with 20 teams who can win it all, yikes.

Thanks for the info and no doubt about this year! I do a 4 player draft. Every player gets a 16-1 seed. You get points for every round your team wins. Makes it so fun cuz every game is 2 teams that somebody has. Upsets don't ruin the bracket for anybody because somebody has those teams.

Yeah I'd like that better since I get a little freaked out with the amount of money that gets committed by our team sometimes. I have 2 partners to help lessen the blow, done it 2 years now and have only lost a $40 or so and last year we got paid out $250 a piece. Some teams in the league lost $1k plus LOL it is insane. You pay whatever you want for each team, the pot was $5k last year. Got burned by Arizona paid a tad too much for them and then they blow it in the Elite 8. This year is more about luck than ever.

Do you do the auction on 1 night when everybody can get together? Do you only auction on a few teams or every single team in the tourny?

Here is the updated rules looks like we are drawing teams out of a hat instead of calling them out, not a fan of that oh well. We get together on Tuesday of March Madness week so when play in games are on so there are games on.

1. Bidding:

a. Teams will be drawn randomly out of a hat

b. If you bid on teams in the ‘play-in’ game, you get both teams regardless of winner, however will receive no payout for the ‘play-in’ game victory.

c. We will not bid on the #13-16 seeds, as those will be awarded to whoever has that team’s 1st round opponent, essentially guaranteeing you a 1st round win.

d. Minimum bid will be $1.00 and will increase in no less than $1.00 increments (no cents)

e. There is no limit on any bid for any team; we will go until 1 team outbids the rest of the group (going once, going twice, sold!)

f. There is no minimum or maximum amount of teams you have to bid on (you can buy 20 teams or none)

Listening to some of the basketball analysts, they have MSU winning the Big 10 and making the final 4. They're playing the best basketball in the Big 10 so hard to argue with that. Iowa looks flat and not handling the pressure well. I wouldn't be surprised if they lose the rest of their games. The Hawks look like they're not having fun have hung it up for the season. I wouldn't put much money on Iowa.

MSU is 2-1 in their last 3 games (lost 10 days ago) and is 8-5 in the conference. Not sure why everyone is anointing them conference champs and world beaters. Yes, they typically do well this time of year, but they could easily lose at OSU tomorrow and fall to 8-6.

Do not believe we lose the rest of our games, nor do I buy that we are not having fun or have packed it in. You are not watching the same team I am. Save your money, you are going to need it when you have to eat it with the crow entree.

I was skeptical going in but it is very very fun and entertaining and nerve wracking when a team you got $$ on that hasn't earned what you bid on them back yet goes down. There were teams last year down more than $1k at end of day lol.

How are payouts determined? Champion = x% of pot, Semifinals = x/2% of pot, Final four = x/4% of pot...?

1. Payouts:

a. Each round your team advances will result in a fixed % of the total pot

b. The %’s will increase every round; the deeper run your team makes, the more $$ you get back

c. To entice bidding on higher seeds, 2% of the pot will go the highest double digit seed to advance the farthest. (tiebreaker will be total points scored in tournament)

d. Payout by round as follows:

1. Round 1 win=.5% of pot (total 16% of pot)

2. Round 2 win=1.5% of pot (total 24% of pot)

3. Round 3 win=2.5% of pot (total 20% of pot)

4. Round 4 win=4% of pot (total 16% of pot)

5. Rounnd 5 win=6% of pot (total 12% of pot)

6. National Champ=10% of pot (total 10% of pot)

**remaining 2% of pot to double digit seed to advance furthest**

Mock Payout assuming $3000 total pot:

Round 1 win=$15/team

Round 2 win= $45/team ($60 total)

Round 3 win= $75/team ($135 total)

Round 4 win=$120/team ($255 total)

Round 5 win=$180/team ($435 total)

National champ win=$300 (total of $735 for 6 wins)

Also do an auction with a cool format. 8 guys, 100 per team entry. 64 budget to buy teams. (15/16s together 1 entry-playins single unit, so 57 auctions, random order)

The other 36 (plus whatever any team has unspent from 64) goes into prize pool paying 3 places based on total wins. But the real fun comes from the payout of the auction prices.

Each game the winner gets the money that bought the loser.

Makes for plenty of fun to watch with varying risk/reward each game, and tends to keep most or all 8 in the running into the second weekend.

Random auction makes for a really interesting draft as well.

Interesting, more stable for sure. My league it is a free for all and it can get out of control when you are able to bid whatever you want for a team, the risk/reward is very high.

Nice to read that someone realizes that these are the same Hawkeyes, and ups and downs are part of a long season in a tough conference. There are a few posters who go from predicting a top seed in the dance to losing out after 1 or 2 losses. It is scary how ignorant many so-called Hawk fans are.
