Mulvey is he on the roster next year?

It seems unlikely at this point. Iowa already has 5 other bigs on the roster for next season in Freeman, Dembele, Tadjo, Diakite and Briscoe. I don’t think they would have recruited two bigs in the freshman class if they expected Mulvey to be back.

Additionally, they are open to Thelwell coming back and are still recruiting to bring in another wing, which means someone would have to leave for them to stay at the 13 scholarship limit

It's nice to have a 7ft'er just for the occasional teams where it helps matchup. Since Fran has no intention of playing him, then Mulvey should move on, even though he has been good student athlete and supportive, it is now a business. IF FRan would play him, then I could see the justification to keep him.

Getting another year for Thelwell would be great news.

Last year I was guessing Iowa would need $250K to sign up Perkins for another year and then he signed for $400+K.

Imagine Dix will require $500K in NIL and Freeman quite a bit also. If this Revenue sharing plan goes into effect, there will be plenty of money vs where we have been at for NIL.

15 scholarships next year….. I think they’re still recruiting a Juco 7 foot center.

If he's going to get a scholly, why not stay? He doesn't appear to care about playing time or he wouldn't have stayed this long.
Unless he prefers to get free grad school credits elsewhere. He may be the opposite of most players in that he uses all of this extra eligibility they have to extend his academic career rather than his bball career.

Is mulvey a wasted scholarship I don't know I thought he would be giving us more . What do you guys think
Can't give if you're dusting the second to the last chair with your backside 99% of the time every year you've been at IOWA.

Not sure what he doesn't get, but he gets up and down the floor well and would be a shot adjuster down low if given a chance for some PT just to spell Freeman for a few minutes each half. If he has some options and wants to actually "play", moving on would be his best option. More power to him if he does.

Why worry about the last guy on the end of the bench. You would rarely want to play more than 8-10 guys anyway. With NIL, you're not going to be able to stockpile talent with those last few schollys

He likes to rebound too which we know is frowned upon. If you watch him during games he always looks like the happiest bench player they have. I doubt he goes anywhere even though he never plays.

But how? He's playing his Covid year right now. I don't understand where they think a 6th year materializes from.

I don’t think I can recall a guy who has played less over 4 years. I think even Tree Henry got some minutes here and there during mop up.

Nice kid.. came in as a project and it looks like that will be his legacy!

Nope. He was in the 2021 class. He redshirted last season. So this is not his last season of eligibility. He was in the same class as Payton, who is in his 4th year. I don't believe that the 2021 class or beyond are eligible for a covid year.

I was replying to a post about Thelwell

Problem is most of those guys aren’t that “ big “ We definitely need another guy who is Freeman’s size or bigger. Whether that is Mulvey or Fran brings in another 6’11” or 7’0” guy, we need him.

Tree Henry is blast from the past and the Lute Final-4 team.

Yeah, most guys transfer out for Playing time. Alford had a 7ft'er Seth Gorney that was worse than Mulvey and he played.

Watching Oumar Ballow of Indiana kinda reminded me of Josh Ogundule. I guess Fran went 0-2 on Mulvey and Ogundule projects.
Tadjo looks like a project since he is low on basketball skills, but wow, size, strength, and athleticism---can't teach that. I'll go out on
a limb and say Tadjo >> Mulvey down the road.

I honestly think Mulvey could contribute with rebounding and defense, but he seems to be deep in the Fran doghouse with no escape in sight.

I think one part is the 4 year scholarship commitment. That part is fulfilled with Mulvey being in his 4th year. I expect him to move on.

Are you sure he’s using his covid year and not a grad transfer year? If it’s the latter, he could make the argument that he graduated from Morehead St in three years (with his initial year not counting because of covid) and thus is entitled to two years of grad transfer eligibility.

I don't think graduate transfers get extra years on top of the already 5 to play 4 rule. Essentially his first season at morehead state doesn't count against his eligibility. Now he's on year 4. But the covid extra season(s) has screwed with any miniscule understanding of the rules I may have had in the first place. And players essentially being able to petition for any grievance and be granted more time. Thanks Bohannon.

If it is cut and dried for Thelwell, why hasn't the administration made an announcement regarding his future eligibility? He has been an eye opener and I really hope he is here for more than this year. Hell, it seems as though all the other rules have gone by the wayside, why not this one?

Was Thelwell injured at Morehead State?

I think Mulvey stays. If Fran is the coach, which I think he will be, Mulvey seems to like it here. Will he play? Who knows with Fran. With another coach, I actually see him getting minutes. I believe Brauns minutes should have gone to Mulvey.

I'd say the goofiest bench player, but yeah.
