I actually don't mind the multiple opt outs for the bowl game. If the coaching staffs would embrace these as developmental opportunities I'd find it very interesting. Not only trying new players, but new schemes. Particularly on O. You want to win, but that is secondary to seeing what your roster can do and what new set ups you want to try.

I’d prefer Ole Miss or Bama. A high level SEC team coming off a disappointing season with tons of NFL opt outs is a much easier opponent than a SEC team that’s building up to next year.

Obviously things can and have changed at the last minute. Alabama was the unknown until 90 minutes ago. That impacts match ups. I do have a good source. Tampa wants Michigan. That’s the latest.

My guess is that outside of the playoff, bowls will turn into developmental showcases where fans get a preview of next season’s team. It is kind of sad, but bowl season has become so watered down anyway that it doesn’t seem to matter much

It’s an exhibition and good excuse for fans to travel and have a good time around the holidays. As it was originally, and I’m fine with it. The days of crapping our collective pants over Tate hitting Holloway to win the Cap One are over.
