Right now I cannot confirm that the 6 year old girl is dead. That has not yet made the news. What we heard is that the young girl was supposed to be helping in the yard. He got pissed she wasn’t doing something right and beat her. She was taken to the hospital and later died from the injuries. We know there were 5 police cars at the residence late last week. We know he fled to IL. We know he killed himself. We are getting bits and pieces of the story.

Can’t confirm the abuse AND death. Nothing in the news yet. A dead 6 year girl from abuse would surely hit the news, wouldn’t you think? That’s why I’m cautious and not claiming 100% certainty.

There are othe Mennos. Doesnt matter the group. Closed religious groups can cover a lot of stuff. Where I live now its the ACs and others 8ncluding other Mennos abd Amish.. There are 943 cities/towns/villages and 99 counties in Iowa that could probably be classified as having a drinking problem.
The university is like 40% kids from chicago area, mostly places like Naperville and Elmherst. Therefore, even being 4 hours away from Chicago there is a lot of Chicago influence. The joke is that Iowa City is Chicago's most western suburb.

I think more child abuse death happens than you realize if you think they often end up as national stories.
We haven’t heard a peep since the suicide. We just started week 2 of our vacation. I’ll get a full update on the 4th or 5th. We have friends joining us from there who will know the full story. At this point, we don’t think the daughter was killed. I’d think we’d have heard about that by now.

Not uncommon at all. Especially true when they are harvesting multiple organs. You can't just snap your fingers to have all those fortunate folks lined up at once. It takes time and you have to keep the donor on life support until everyone is ready to roll.

You’re neighbor is/was a POS
We are back home. He beat the girl, then killed himself. The girl died. For some reason the news hasn’t reported this or connected it all together.

On the early morning hours of June 16, 2024, a juvenile was brought into Myrtue Medical Center with a medical emergency by personal vehicle. Life saving measures were taken by deputies, hospital staff, and Shelby County EMS and the juvenile was later transferred to Children’s Hospital in Omaha. The Shelby County Sheriff's Office and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation began investigating the incident that is believed to have taken place at 804 Spring St. in Shelby. Through the investigation Nicholas Segebart was identified as a suspect and was in care of the juvenile at the time of the incident. A search warrant was conducted at 804 Spring St. in relation to the investigation. On June 18, Nicholas Segebart was located in Illinois by law enforcement, deceased by self-inflicted wound(s). The juvenile later did succumb to injuries believed to be caused by Segebart and passed away.
Such a sad story. Is the girlfriend still your neighbor? She was probably abused as well.
I don’t believe anyone is currently living on the house. The house sits behind ours and two houses to the west. So we don’t see any activity from the front.
I can’t comment specifically about abuse to the GF, but based on what I know of the guy, likely. He tried to get her fired from her job at the school this past year. He turned her in for having an OF account. Turned out, after an investigation, he was the one who created it without her knowledge or permission, just to sabotage her. This doesn’t sound like a healthy relationship.
