My son made an interesting comment after the game.....

He said Kirk has ruined another QB and we might as well play Stanley now in order to get the most out of him we can (before Kirk ruins him).

I know he wasn't serious, but still.......
Maybe this is why Wiegers didn't look too upset about being passed on the depth chart.
"They're not gonna ruin me, dadgummit!"

Ive tried telling my Iowa friends that Kirk does not develop QB's and they argue with me til they are blue in the face. They always bring up Brad Banks.

I am sorry, but that is a very stupid comment. Even trying to be funny, that is lame.

Hmmm...the greatest years under KF all have one thing in common.

Dominant offensive and defensive lines. Amazing how our quarterback's play is better when there are people blocking for him.

Come on people, no QB is a miracle worker. Could we at least pretend that we understand the game a little bit here?

A lot of blame to go around for this loss but it is my understanding that Beathard has full authority to audible any play called from the sideline. He can change a any run play to a pass and a any pass play to a run. If my understanding is erroneous, I apologize in advance.

I'm not here to defend the game plan devised by Davis and Ferentz only to note that a belief that the coaches have neutered Beathard seems dubious if he has free reign on play calling.

wow! This is awesome. I always knew our QBs got worse under Ferentz but seeing this is VERY telling

Bio, you are spot on. When C.J. has the time he is generally on the money. If we can't run the football and end up in third and long, look out.

I'm ready to call out Brian Ferentz, our running game sucks. If you can't run, it is hard to get the passing game going.

This. I am a bit baffled by the OL play. It's going to be a long season if it doesn't improve.

A dominant QB, especially a dominant dual-threat QB, in college football can completely change an offense.

You still need to block for him and you still need someone to throw to. Unless you have Cam Newton or Vince Young. If that's what you are talking about then you are being delusional since only one of those guys comes around a decade and they aren't going to Iowa.

I'm with the crowd that it is the line play on both sides of the ball. Which is even more embarrassing considering Kirk and Brian's pedigree.

You guys must have been miserable last year with all the winning. Have fun.

There is a lot of truth to this! Can't find anyone downfield (if anyone separates that is) from the pile of players you are looking at from the bottom. O line play has been atrocious !

We have two walk ons and another guy with only an Iowa offer. That's one offer between three guys.
What is really an alarming trend is how little time we spend recruiting out of state O-linemen. Welsh and Daniels are OUR best lineman, yet we continue to only sign in-state kids. Took the kid from Detroit last year but this year and the previous two years were all in state kids. I really like Wirfs and Kallenberger so maybe they will contribute. Our tackles have been manhandled all year. Croston got pushed back all day at left tackle.

Oh, while I'm at it, our DE got beat outside a lot yesterday on he run. They need to contain he edge.
