NBC coverage of Megan Rapinoe

For all the stuff about politics or the anthem... whatever.

Nothing was more un-American to me than watching the team dancing and celebrating eeking out a draw against a vastly inferior team (on paper).

You have played 1 good half of soccer and that was against the Netherlands in that 2nd half. The other 5 halves have been garbage and you celebrated like you did something. Stop celebrate being average. Go take the title.

I didn't see the game but odds are they were simply celebrating the fact that they advanced.

They were. That's not the identity of this program's mentality. Being lucky and the second best team in 2 of 3 games is not this team's mentality. I was hoping to see players huddled and talking about the severity of training the next few days.

Sweden is going to roll us if we play that bad again.

I honestly think the USWNT is over-rated simply based on history that Europe put in place development systems that are similar to the men's and are far superior to our own and that development has paid off for them.

I see your thoughts but I still think we will see our athletes playing over there enough to support our team.

You are spot on that we missed a.chance to be the premier league for ladies.

Based on population numbers of the countries involved, it's an embarrassment that the U.S. team is struggling so mightily.

It's like a 1A team equalling West Des Moines Valley.

Oh they will make the world cup, they just are not likely to be dominate as they were in the past.

In terms of a pro-league that isn't the issue. . . we have one. The issue is going to be the same problem we have for the men, it's the development of kids into pro-players that we lack.

We put all development in high schools, traveling teams, and colleges. None of which have any particular vested interest in developing the best players possible and weeding out all the rest. So what we get is a very inefficient development system. I mean you go look at the old tapes of NFL players in high school destroying the competition like they were grown men playing against 12 year old. Do you think those players were getting significantly better at the game by playing against competition like that? Maybe a little but not as good as they could have gotten if they routinely played against other players who were on their talent level.

Pro-teams have a big interest in developing the best players and weeding out the rest. They can either use those players for their own team or sell them for big money. They keep the best, weed out the rest, and the best only play against the best. And they do it under coaches who's only job is to make them better players.

Men have lost to Panama (4.3 mil) twice in the last couple years. I don't care if they weren't playing all the top players that's pretty amazing and one of the things that makes sports so cool. Sure worked in the movie Hoosiers

Population and ability as a soccer nation have almost no relationship.

China and India have the largest populations on earth and are far from powerhouses in soccer, probably worse than we are. Meanwhile Belgium with like only 11 million people is one of the best out there.

It's every sport. All the people in world doesn't mean much if very few give a shit.

That is part but even if a lot of people care you have to have the developmental systems to get the best out of your players.

Mexico cares a lot about soccer but lacks the developmental systems to be a top team.
