Anyone paying attention to this? They had to delay the game today because a significant number of NC State players had to enter Covid protocol. My husband said they only had 13 eligible players. Had the inside track to the National championship game and likely blew that.
I’d be curious to know what happened. We’re the players vaccinated? If not, would it have made a difference? I can’t imagine putting in all that work and it all goes to shit like that.

Chris Paul from the Pheonix Suns had to enter covid protocol even tho he was vaxed. Maybe something similiar here. Tough break.

Weren't the 9 Yankees that tested positive a while back all vaccinated? I guess it is because they are getting tested and the vaccine only prevents symptoms.

That’s what I was curious about. I don’t know specifically what the protocol is. If they are vaccinated do they have to quarantine if exposed? And we all know that being vaccinated isn’t a guarantee to not get it. But how in the heck do you lose almost 2/3 of your team? Is the NCAA being ridiculous or did they get careless? It’s just baffling how you get to the final four in the driver’s seat and this happens

If I were the other 7 teams this would piss me off to no end. Why weren’t players & coaching staffs testing daily? Perhaps they were, but this leads me to believe not. Jarrett was one of the players that didn’t suit up today, and I assume that was because he tested positive.

Avent told reporters Monday that an illness was running through the team but made no mention of it possibly being COVID-19. He said associate head coach Chris Hart had been sick for five or six days and that Jarrett and pitcher Cameron Cotter weren't feeling well.

So, for 10 days, they had a carrier amongst them and either didn’t think to, or didn’t want to, have him or anyone else tested until the problem became obvious.

Testing protocols are going to have to be worked out as currently they seem all over the place.Read a story today about Pat Forde's daughters attempt to make the Olympics and she had Covid, got vaccinated and still got a positive test 16 days before the trials. Legal action had to be threatened to get the Stanford ( where she was training) to allow for a rapid test negative before they would authorize a retest of the first test. Thankfully the retest proved it was a false positive.

As to the NCST Wolfpack and possibly losing out on a chance to get a title

Fuggem. 14 days quarantine. Play with 13 the rest of the way, morons.
Yeah I dont know how accurate it is as I tried to look it up, and Karl didnt sound real sure, but they said if you were vaccinated you didnt have to get tested, so I am assuming that is how they got to the number

If you have access to the vaccine, and chose not to at this point then that is on you.
Paul might be a small percentage of cases. He was exposed right after his initial dose according to what I read. That can still easily net you a positive case. Or, you can have the antibodies in you from a previous asymptomatic case of Covid.

I’ve not heard of any other cases among the teams.

If I were Miss St, Tejas & Vandy I’d be for telling the NCAA that if there is just 1 single positive on NCSt’s roster, either they go with the 13 kids that can prove vaccination, or just award them the trophy, because we ain’t taking the field against them.

NC St did this to themselves.

It’s idiotic, but I believe the athlete concern for getting vaccinated is the worry of side effects. It’s somewhat understandable until you realize midweek games mean little and most college baseball players are already hungover Monday during the season, and midweek games are against the Sisters of the Poor.

Chatter I am hearing
Well that’s a real testament to dumbassery right there. If they’re that stupid then they deserve losing the opportunity to play for a championship. Stupid is as stupid does. If I were a vaccinated teammate of theirs I’d never forgive them for it.

Me thinks coach was vocal anti Covid Vaccine, so ton of his players did not get it. Whoopsie Daisey gif

“Avent grew frustrated and wouldn't answer directly when asked if he or the baseball program encouraged players to be vaccinated.

“My job is to teach them baseball, make sure they get an education and keep them on the right track forward,” he said. “But I don’t try to indoctrinate my kids with my values or my opinions. Obviously, we talk about a lot of things. But these are young men that can make their own decisions and that’s what they did.”

“Avent told reporters Monday an illness was running through the team but made no mention of it possibly being COVID-19. He said associate head coach Chris Hart had been sick for five or six days and that second baseman J.T. Jarrett and pitcher Cameron Cotter weren’t feeling well.”

Talk about shooting your feet off.

To be technical, his job is to win baseball games. And his reluctance or refusal to encourage his players to do the right thing for the team just cost them big time. I wonder what his bonus would have been if they’d won it all.

They really didn’t give the NCAA much choice.
100 percent. Of course as was the case when Rahm was DQ’d, a ton of people, mostly in the GQP, are crying it’s a travesty.

But just as in that case, this is a clear, linear logical decision on the individual’s / coach and players to ignore the known rules consequence of getting or being exposed to COVID-19 if unvaccinated. A extremely poor and illogical choice was made if you are truly doing every you can to ensure victory. If it is true 14 were not vaccinated, that was just pure abject stupidity. I hope the Cubs players are watching.

Now I do feel sorry for those players, both the ones who got vaccinated and the ones influenced by their ball coach to not get vaccinated. There are going to be a lot of pissed off NC State fans out there if it does turn out he was in fact always and loudly declaring his political views on COVID and the vaccine. It will be interesting to see if any players turn on him and blame him. It looks like we may be adding “losing the College World Series so you can own the Libs” to the official list.

Why would legal action be threatened against the ncaa for someone trying to qualify for the olympics?

I’m not sure what the NCAA policies are and I don’t have any sympathy for those who were not vaxxed but certainly seems like they need to have separate rules for vaxxed and non vaxxed athletes who test positive. Also need to have rules about those vaccinated who are technically “exposed” because they shouldn’t be held out.

But like I said, not sure what the NCAA rules are currently.

I believe
“The NCAA COVID-19 Medical Advisory Group has updated its recommendations for COVID-19 testing for college sports, noting fully vaccinated student-athletes and other Tier 1 individuals with no COVID-19-like symptoms may be exempt from routine testing.

Tier 1 individuals are those with the highest risk of exposure at championships and include team travel parties and officials. Student-athletes and other Tier 1 participants who are not vaccinated must continue to undergo testing at NCAA championships.”

So last sentence = you ****ers are dumb if you heading into tournament play largely unvaccinated.

So here is how it went down. Apparently two unvaccinated NC State players tested positive. This lead to testing for all, where four vaccinated players then tested positive.

So the one team that is fully vaccinated could all be positive and we’ll never know.

I’d sure like to hear what NC State’s chief medical advisor has to say on this topic, clearly the head coach believes it’s a political topic he now doesn’t want to talk about. If Avent set that kind of tone and messaging in his program against the medical opinion of those responsible for the health and safety of everyone involved then his job security should be in extreme jeopardy. CWS opportunities only come along once in a blue moon for programs like NC State and they just gave it away when it could have been easily avoided.

I went back and read the article again as it was late. It was Stanford, not NCAA, that wanted to quarantine for two weeks. Not being able to train for two weeks before trials would have ruined her chances. Parents sought legal advice and Stanford agreed to the rapid test, then retest

Doesn’t say much for the vaccines....2:1 vaxxed/unvaxxed ratio for catching the corona.

It’s amazing we are this far into the pandemic and you still don’t know the basics on how vaccines work.
