NCAA Wild Cards - Fewer than last year

So, i noticed that for this year, there will only be 40 wild card participants. 290 automatic qualifiers from the below tournaments:

Pacific-12 Conference February 27 Arizona State
Southern Conference March 5 UNC Asheville

Last year, there were 260 auto qualifiers and 70 wild cards, although the Big12 winners were chosen as wild cards.

Last year, the West regional got 19 auto bids but now they combined with Big12, i wonder how many they will get.

Does that hurt our chances for a guy like Rhoads to become a qualifier now that there are fewer to go around?

I'm thinking that was just last year because of the big 12 issue, in previous years it was 290 and 40.
