NCAA Wrestling sites through 2022

Minneapolis is at US Bank stadium too I saw. Interested to see if we will see more Domes in the next cycle.

I think the Bridgestone arena in Nashville would be a great site. Its right on the strip with a ton of bars/restaurants close by. Tennessee isn't a wrestling hotbed, but its a fairly central location.

Would certainly be a good way to grow the sport down there though. Would have liked to see a site out West and one southern. Would be great to grow the sport and have these southern states start wrestling programs.

Would be cool if they had it in the baseball stadium as I think it has a retractable roof. Have some outdoor wrestling.

They have the spaceship where the Cardinals play, downtown Phoenix where the Suns play and of course, the BOB. Plus, they have the pool where drunk former wrestlers can have death matches in.

Good God, by the time it gets to Phoenix I'm gonna be a dirty of man!!

They are literally in the process of building the Little Caesar's Arena as we speak. A real good friend has been working on that project since the beginning and really thinks the facility will be fantastic. Also, Detroit has done a great job revamping the downtown area. Great Restaurants and 3 Casinos. If they continue on their current trend, you guys should be very happy in 2022.

Just DO NOT WANDER out of the downtown area on foot!

Don't want to be negative, but I hope Detroit has totally revamped their plan, because it was a complete disaster there last time, IMO.

Totally fine with Pittsburgh, STL, and Mpls. Pittsburgh is a little far, but not going to complain about mostly midwestern sites.

First off, it wasn't in Detroit last time. It was in Auburn Hills roughly 30 miles north of Downtown Detroit. Although it was great for someone like me that lives in the suburbs north of Detroit, I could see how the logistics were messy for those visiting.

With the above said, it is going to be smack dab in the middle of Downtown Detroit this time, in a brand new stadium built for the Red Wings and Pistons(they will be moving from the facility NCAA's were held the last time). You will have restaurants all around, 3 Casinos(with hotels) and several hotels to choose from. I really think many of you will be pleasantly surprised.

It won't be nearly as easy for me to get in and out like I did at The Palace, but I will sacrifice that to make you all happy!

People think Pittsburgh is far, but I'm from Bettendorf and now live in Pittsburgh. I make the drive in less than 9 hours. I couldn't be happier. I was hoping it would eventually come here since they built the new facility.

I'm pumped about Minneapolis. Don't know how the venue will work but that will be a great host city. Pitt and St.Louis will be fine, never been to Pitt before but I've heard its a fun place. Probably won't be going to Detroit.

The following is a post from Jason Bryant on the BWI board discussing the stadium setup when MN has nationals.

Talked to a few people in regards to the Minneapolis bid on my Minnesota-based (state, not the school) podcast with The Guillotine

http://www.theguillotine.com/gg28

Talked with a Sr. Associate AD in charge of event management with UM, along with Eggum. Mack Reiter provided some pretty good insight into vantage point and things to do, while I had one of my buddy's dad's on at the end talking about the impact on the local fans of wrestling. His company is a big supporter/sponsor of The Clash.

So keep in mind this show is based for the Minnesota wrestling fan, but I had many of the same questions you did.

I live 13 minutes from U.S. Bank Stadium and everything I've heard about the configuration has been positive. And no, don't expect the mats to be dead center and the 66K to be open. We talked about that in the show.

Tried to get the outside traveler situation in the main parts of the show. Also, average temperature in Minneapolis the third weekend in March hovers around 44. It was warmer in Minnesota the first three days I was in St. Louis than it was in St. Louis this
year.

They used to have NCAA Basketball regionals and such at the Metrodome, and in that configuration, where they basically put the court in one end zone and built bleachers out to the 30 yard line or so, it held around 23K I want to say.

I would envision a similar format for U.S. Bank Stadium for Wrestling (which is about 25-30 minutes from Home at this time). I guess I better make plans for the Bed and Breakfast now and get out ahead of it!

It will be fun seeing Spencer win his first title in his home state.

Could also see an All-WPIAL finals match with Kemerer vs Nolf [or Kemerer vs Joseph, if he bumps up]. At any rate, Pittsburgh natives should represent well at '19 Nationals, great choice.

The tournament was there a while back, don't remember the year. I didn't go and didn't hear whether fans liked it or not.

Auburn Hills < Albany < Des Moine < Kansas City < St Louis

Kansas City had the best food. Des Moine was too small. St. Louis is easy transportation but Union Station has declined.

KC was 2003, out at Kemper. Sprint Center would be a pretty good venue, given the proximity of food/drink/hotels.

Even though it was close for me, I didn't like KC but the Kemper is rundown and not the best location. As ISChip said, the new Sprint Center and downtown area is supposed to be great. I was hoping they'd give them another shot.
