Connie Yori, the head coach for the Nebraska womens team, resigned after allegations and an investigation by the school of player mistreatment. She has the best record in women's BB in Nebraska's history.

Well at least we won't have to worry about the Nebraska women's basketball being better than ours anymore.........................................

That's pretty big news. She was tough and old school. She will be hard to replace without several girls transferring out.

I wondered if something might be going on as poorly as they played against UNI in the WNIT.

Speaking of the WNIT, I would expect the Nebraska AD to go after South Dakota HC Amy Williams, a former basketball player at Nebraska. Its almost a perfect fit.

The Coyotes just won the WNIT title with consecutive victories over Creighton, Minnesota, UNI, Western Kentucky, Oregon, and Florida Gulf Coast.

In her 4 years at USD, Williams has won two Summit League regular season titles, one conference tourney championship / NCAA bid. She has around 95 wins and has been named Summit COY twice.

Sounds like a Tracy Greisbaum story. I am sure there will be a Title 9 investigation of some sort.

Yori wasn't fired, she resigned. She said it had more to do with her messy divorce she is going through than the allegations. Nebraska had a bunch of injuries at the end of the year.

wow. I think I can speak for a lot of people when I say....Who cares?

Coaching change at a B10 rival school is usually a relevant topic for discussion.

I suspect that you do not find this worthy of discussion because it involves a lady coach and/or a womens basketball program. If that is in fact the case, there are two likely explanations:

1. You are a Trump supporter and women in power positions offend you in some way; or

2. You have a closet full of women's panties and bras which you put on in private then parade around the house on weekends.

I'm leaning toward #2.

Connie Yori is widely regarded as the best high school female athlete in the history of Iowa girls athletics.

I suspect you don't have a job, sit around in bra and panties while watching The View and eating twinkies all day....And you are a Bernie Sanders supporter.

Sounded like a Blevins kind of resignation, from what I read.

What I meant was, in both cases the coach involved received "assistance" from the AD in coming to the decision.

Was there a story behind Belvins? I'm only aware of the mess around Griesbaum.
Yes - A couple players/parents got their feelings hurt. Barta told Blevins to make changes or else. She said screw you, I'm a HOF coach. Rest is history.

Not that many people on this thread care much, but now the once very successful softball and field hockey programs are a mess.

lol, wut?

I have heard of dozens and dozens and dozens of legendary Iowa high school female athletes (Denise Long comes immediately to mind first) and had absolutely no idea that Yori was even from this state before I read it in the DM Register article of her termination.

So I'm going to go ahead and call BS on that one.

Cooldude, call BS if you like but I believe she was a 6 time 1st team all state athlete (4 in softball and 2 in basketball) won 3 individual titles in track and was part of 4 team state championships.

I also heard Mike Henderson proclaim it and I trust his judgment.

Connie Yori may have been a part of many team state champions in BB and SB, but for the best pure athlete you have to go back to Debbie Esser in track and field in 1975. From little Woodbine she was the best of any era even 40 years later. She set two Iowa girls records that may never be broken -- 57.3 in the 400 Hurdles (no one else has ever gone sub-60) and 24.0 in the 200. And it was no fluke. After high school she went on to star for Iowa State and after that in international competitions. Sorry to get "off track", but I had to stick up for someone not from the modern era.

One of Nebraska's star players Natalie Romeo has asked for her release from the school & it was granted. She isn't 100% sure she is leaving but plans to look at schools back near her California home & still meet with the new coach once hired before deciding. Jasmin Cincore a reserve/sometimes starting guard also has been released & will transfer, had some not so kind words about Coach Yori's "interpersonal skills."

Esser was an incredible track athlete no doubt. I think the fact that Yori is a Hall Of Fame athlete in 2 sports speaks pretty highly of her all around athleticism.

So one idiot now gets to decide what is widely considered to be accepted as statewide fact?

I used to be pretty good friends with Larry Niemeyer and heard him go on and on about the old days and the greatest 6 player basketball and softball players that he had ever seen, and he mentioned Connie Yori a grand total of zero times.

Of course, he probably doesn't know what he's talking about, though.

I would certainly trust Larry Niemeyer on anything related to girls athletics. I suppose it's all subject to opinion though.

One thing, you might want to look up who Mike Henderson was before you conclude he's an idiot.

By the way cooldude, my favorite Niemeyer quote is below:

Niemeyer told The Gazette's Jeff Linder (Change in philosophy: Niemeyer out at Jefferson) that he was told by McDonnell that he would not be offered a coaching contract for the 2012-13 school year because of "a change in philosophy in the softball program."

"What do they want to change to? Losing?" Linder quoted Niemeyer as asking.

Cooldude, It would be impossible to say any one person was the absolute best at almost anything. I saw Connie Yori and she was clearly the star on great Ankeny teams who played the best competition at that time. She played multiple sports and excelled.
Mike Henderson is The Iowa authority on Women's sports and has seen more womens athletic events than any of us unless one was a coach of multiple sports for the past 35 years or more.
Why be pissy about something that can't be proven ? It is opinion by many that Connie is/was one of the greatest female atheletes in Iowa High School history who did very well when she moved on to college at Creighton.

As far as this goes, certainly fair to call her one of our best out of Iowa. And yes, star at creighton and then coaching there and big move when went to Nebraska. She always looked darn serious , sorry if something caught up with her...
