On nights like this when Garza is struggling, they need to stop feeding him first and move the ball around to get shots for CJ, Weezy and Bohannon.
They are all 40+% 3 point shooters. Each should be shooting 5-6 a game.

Garza has clearly worn down the last 7-8 games. Need these guardsto step up and shoot more.

Mix up the offense how? You have really no one, other than maybe CJ, who can create off the dribble. What do you propose Fran do to "mix up" the offense?

we had 4 assists tonight.

gotta move/share the ball

The offense is what it is. When they’re white hot it’s fun....when they’re normal it’s garbage

Iowa has the number one ranked offense in basketball. Tonight was a frustrating loss, but not unexpected. The first half was well contested by both teams. The second half got away from Iowa. The team needs forget this game and move on. Hopefully, Luka has a better game against OSU.

I think losing Jack hurt, he’s far from polished but pretty good shot blocker on defense, rebounds well on both ends of the court and with Luka can cause mismatches on offense passing and shooting. I think Fran would have played the two together today and “ maybe “. Maybe that would have made a bit of a difference. Michigan is good but hate when Jack went down as it limited options.

When Garza caught the ball the defenders all watched. So did the offense. And for good reason because Garza was just forcing everything tonight. He killed us in that one stretch.

If others cut more often like Weezy did for that easy dunk. It would open up the offense a lot. The problem is people don’t move when Garza gets the ball and Garza wasn’t looking to pass. Chicken and egg situation it seems.

Garza is of the opinion (not without reason) that he can score on anybody in the country in a one on one scenario, so when he gets the ball and isn’t doubled, he’s going to shoot and isn’t looking to pass. It’s just a fact and something we need to accept. He doesn’t look to pass until he gets doubled. If he isn’t hitting his shots, Iowa will likely lose unless threes are falling at a very high rate

Setting screens and running plays for shooters.

Game was over when Dickinson was able to shut down Garza 1 on 1 and then Garza let that get into his head.
It was hard to feed Garza anyway...michigan made it tough on entrypasses.

Without an effective Garza, the outside game gets shut down. The other guys are not capable of driving to
rim and finishing, they are all primarily 3ball shooters. Wagner shutdown Weezy...Weezy was blanketed. CMAC was 0-2 not like he was going to make shots. JBO always has hard time getting his shot off and finishing on dribble drive. Fredrick is only one that can make shots and he quit looking for shots in 2nd half.

We got a glimpse of what playing without Garza will be like next year....there is no one with decent post game
on the squad. it will be chuck 3 balls and pray next year.

You don't see that happening throughout the game?

Iowa could have played better, but if a team of good athletes that is well coached can make Garza average or below, Iowa is going to really struggle. There is no magic fixing it by Fran. Dickinson dominated Garza, and that was that. Garza dominated Teske last year, and Iowa split with Michigan.

Wagner and Livers are really, really good. 6-10 and 6-7 wings that are good athletes and good players. Wieskamp just couldn't get open. Iowa ran tons of screens and about every set Fran has ever run. It didn't matter. Usually Iowa can get relief if the opponent is really out on shooters by throwing it in to Garza. Garza couldn't really do much against Dickinson. It ended up impacting Garza against Johns and the backup C also, rushing everything and missing shots he normally makes. It happens. If Iowa were to play Michigan again, I would be shocked if Garza didn't play much better.

Maybe Garza at the high post and cutters to the basket. They were way overplaying the 3 and would’ve taken Dickinson out of the lane. I’m not even sure that would’ve worked, but I did stay at a holiday in express last night
Honestly Luka has been forcing way too much shit for quite awhile now. His shooting % has been steadily decreasing as the year goes by it seems, and we can't win games if he's taking all the shots and only making a few of them. He was awful no matter who guarded him when the game mattered.

He's a really good shooter, take a step back 12 footer instead of forcing shit just to be closer to the basket. They're not calling fouls on guys banging and hacking him, so adjust.

We had very few assists because of this, didn't get to the free throw line as a team, just a horrible 2nd half collapse. JFC

I wouldn't go so far as to say that will be the Iowa team next year. Wieskamp, Frederick, Murray are a good core. Uhlis, Perkins, Toussaint other perimeter players. Iowa needs a grad transfer big man, especially if Nunge is hurt again. Much more likely that Iowa has more guys on the floor next year who can go to the hoop. And Iowa may very well play no one next year who is as good as Michigan.

But yes, Garza covers up a lot of things. I've been saying for months this Iowa team was 11-9 last year in the league, even with the best player in the league by a mile. Expecting Final 4 or bust this year, or conference title or bust, was not realistic. It's a good Iowa team that with the right matchup can get to the Sweet 16. Beyond that, they would need breaks. But they have limitations.

He's done much less mid-post scoring this year, for whatever reason. Against a guy like Dicksinson, I would have tried to get him the ball 15 feet or so away from the hoop, let him shoot the jumper if given space. Going into the post was where he was at a disadvantage.

I think it's just time to admit that Michigan is elite. Doesn't mean Iowa is bad, but they are not elite.

This is the most likely answer and one that many fans just don't want to hear. Michigan has 2, maybe 3 potential pros on its team (Wagner, Livers, Dickinson). Iowa has maybe Garza. They have better talent and are coached well.

Offense doesn’t need to be mixed up the ball just needs to change where it goes at certain times. That’s where Garza comes in. Can’t go 6-18 or whatever.. need to be able to get any bucket to stop bleeding.

I put a like cause you made a punny

I agree but the shooters can't get open looks unless they step back 5 feet from the line. I liked CJ being aggressive in the first half, but Michigan blanketed him in the second half. The offense seems sideways to coin a Fran term. There are literally no open looks for the shooters. Lacking is a guy to break down the D, draw help D and kick to an open guy. It seems like looks should be there given all the attention Garza gets, but it's like the defense has 7 guys.

It's typical Franspeak. He has a veteran team but they play like freshman when faced with adversity. The second half was clown ball from start to finish. At one point I think Fran could have thrown Ulis, Perkins, Joe T., Murray and CJ out there and gone Nolan Richardson. Would not have changed the outcome, but would have been more interesting. Get guys some PT to help you in the next game or rest of the season.

Losing Garza is what it will take for some on here to realize how little Cmac brings to the table.
