**NEW** Iowa Women's Basketball Recruiting Thread

The coming in next year might be more athletic. I also think people are selling the backups a bit short. Two of the 3 were higher rated coming in, but were stuck behind Monica.

Greenway family is very, very well off financially. NIL will be a non factor.
I absolutely hate when people say this. People with money like money. People with money respect money. Tell me someone who has a $100,000 ring and is willing to just give it to you. If Greenway is worth a free ride and NIL, then money will be important. Plus, this is about the kid (who has no money as a 9th grader), not her dad. She can pay for school herself and be ahead on life all on her own. It's about the money. ALWAYS IS.

Tara is 70, Geno is 69, and Bluder is 62. Tara seems highly unlikely to be around for a Greenway era, but Stanford is Stanford. Will the prospect of a Geno exit negatively impact UCONN?

Simple answer is yes, when Geno leaves it will negatively affect UConn. Look at Tennessee after Summitt left. Tennessee is building back up, but still nowhere near the power they were with Pat.

A lot will depend on how/when Geno decides to leave. The transfer portal throws another factor into the equation too.

Bottom line, If I was a recruit in the '26 or '27 class, I would have a hard time committing to UConn/Stanford (and unfortunately Iowa) right now with the uncertainty of who the head coach will be when I get there.

That's where Jennie B. fits in....

After last season you have to wonder if Tara is heading down the same path as Muffet. ND has become rather run of the mill when compared to what they were under her. Especially if Stanford continues to lose realignment, they could be at an inflection point. Their pre-season rank does not bode well.

If Fennelly retires before Lisa I bet ISU will try and snap her up.

Fennelly will have to stay at ISU another 10 years or so because the last Joens girl is still in middle school and their isn't another college coach in the nation that would tolerate old man Joens except old drunk Bill.

That's a pretty dumb take.

Aubrey Joens plays for?
With Ashley at ISU until this year and the next one going to be a freshman this winter, I think it's safe to say Brian is spending way more time in Ames than Norman.

You disagree?

Courtney Joens played all 4 years at Illinois under two coaches - neither being Fennelly.

WTF!

Found it interesting that Coach Bluder, together with Caitlin Clark, were speakers at last week's Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Fall Clinic in Wisconsin Dells. They were there to present "Iowa Women’s Basketball Shooting Workout." The lineup also included Shaka Smart, Dusty May, Greg Gard and Megan Duffy (new Marquette WBB coach), but only Bluder/Clark were apparently allotted time for "photo/autograph." High school coach Sara Mallegni (Teagan's mom) was also a presenter, as was Gary Dolphin (?).

I suspect it is not the norm for a current player to accompany the head coach on an out-of-state clinic opportunity, but I love it. Wisconsin has been good to Lisa Bluder (Logic, Gustafson, Warnock), and leveraging Caitlin to help further build the Hawkeye brand with Wisconsin high school coaches seems like a good thing.

Looks like Libby Fandel, Alyssa Koerkenmeier and Jenica Lewis all attended today. Anyone spot anyone else?

I think Addi brings better defense, rebounding, and screens than Monica, but doesn't have Monica's great hands. Off the Bench, Sharon brings better post offense, but is more limited on defense and is slower. They both have a shot at being good. I think Hannah's ceiling is higher than Warnock, but she has a ways to go to get there. The post development likely the limiting factor for this team barring injuries. My biggest concern is that Addi and Clark seem to be struggling to get on the same page, if they can figure that out this team could be tough. Clark/Goodman seem to have a more natural connection, but I think Ogrady has a higher ceiling....

Addi may never have Monika's hands or quick reactions, and it's clear that CC gets frustrated with it. But it's a long season, I imagine they'll adjust somewhat. But Hannah can handle those bullet passes pretty well. In balance, I don't think we've really lost much from last year.
I know DePaul isn't a tall team but did Czinano ever clear 10 boards in a game....let alone 14?

10 vs ISU, and Belmond last year 11 vs drake
16 vs northwestern as a Senior
so she had some good games, but career average is 4.9, with last year being her best year at 6.5

I think Addi/Sharon split time more evenly. Addi is a little faster, better defender, and maybe a better re bounder than Sharon, but Sharon has better hands.

I think part of the problem is that Addi is still not expecting the passes, and she needs to get better at sealing off the defender. I think there is a chance that she makes a big jump in both of these areas with coaching and playing time. She looks to be more physical this year, so learning how to present good angles would be the next step? If the passing angles are easier, I think the rest will follow.
