Bringing my son up for a Strength and Speed camp. We've never been to Iowa City. Need some inside info on where to eat and what to see! Appreciate any info, Thanks

If that Taco Bell at the Ped Mall is still there, I'd highly recommend it. That's the place to be on a Thursday evening.

If not there then Falbo's Pizza by default.

Wig and Pen for a friggin flying tomato pizza.

Btw, this board needs to know your kid's 40 time, squat max, any college offers, GPA, and other pertinent stats. Need to judge how good he'll be in 7 years or whatever.

Pizza Palace, only because I can not remember how to spell Paligai(?)'s

Thanks for the info guys. Camp starts at 830, so prob breakfast at the hotel. Definitely hit up a Pizza place after. As far a stars and offers, he's only a Soph, none of those yet! Hopefully after some summer camps. Love to see Iowa be one of his choices though!

Take him to the 2nd floor of the CRWC...all the scenery a 14 yo could ever ask for.

Taco Bell on the ped mall closed down for health code violations iirc. My new favorite place in the ped mall for some drunk food is PepperJax. Hamburg had a fire a few months back and hear it isn't as good as it used to be, but I haven't been there since.
Shorts/Stella/Hudson (same owners, almost identical menus) are all good places to eat, Pagliai's is always good too

Check out Nodo for some sandwiches, Check out Atlas for some fine-dining and the best mac & cheese I've ever had.

The Vine for wings and burgers. Come on guys.

No.

Wig and Pen for a flying tomato. The Bar-ber Shop is a neat little place (behind Hardee's on the Coralville strip)...they bake their own bread/buns on site and have a good selection of beers.

The Old Capitol building may be open, as well as the museum of natural history (I think Rusty the Giant Sloth is still there) if you're into that sort of thing. The UI athletic hall of fame. Depending on when you'll be up here, there may be a fest of some sort going on downtown.

He did, thank you. And thanks to everyone for your suggestions. We tried to go to Paglia's (sp?) but it didn't open until 4. We actually wound up at a place called The Column. Had a Pizza and some Onion rings.
Facility was awesome! And the coaches were all very attentive and great with the kids. My son learned a lot, and had a list of things he wanted to bring back to his team. We are coming back on June 12th for another camp, hopefully we'll have better weather and can see more of the campus.

Glad it went well. Big kid! Just a kc fan or are you from that area?
We are from the KC area. He goes to Grain Valley High school. Had a great time, can't wait to get back June 12! Might have to try Shorts, that Burger looked good!

Too bad you missed Pagliais. Excellent stuff. Also the Bluebird is incredibly reliable for breakfast (served 24/7), lunch or dinner. Try the pancakes with pecans, chocolate chips and whipped cream.

My son just texted me, there's an Iowa Coach at his school today. Has to be a coincidence, but he's pretty excited. LOL

Levar Woods just said he was recruiting the Kansas City area on Twitter. My guess is that's who is at your sons school.

Went to Shorts first time recently. Enjoyed food and atmosphere. Trying to remember what occupied that space back in the early 70s. Back in the good old days when remnants of hippies still threw frisbees on the Pentacrest, and undergrads could legally drink beers at downtown bars. Oh, and the Hawkeyes were one of worst programs in the country, and I had the privilege of watching Frank Lauterbur go 0-11, and the blocks south of the Pentacrest were temporary store front trailers following Vietnam era fires. Hayden's success rebuilt that town - in most ways better, but it did lose a lot of charm.
