Post your accomplishments and goals, and how you’re doing. My aspirational goal is 30 continuous days of cardio, and sticking to a dry January. My realistic goal is 4 days a week and one or two slip ups at a party or gathering with friends. My main goal is to drop 30 or so pounds to hit 215 to 220. My ultimate goal is to drop another 25 to 30 to hit 190. 2 for 2 with cardio. 1.5 days into a diet. Let’s go!

Drop an additional 20 lbs to reach the 200 area. Up at 4:30 every workday to hit the weights. Jog 3 miles (at least 3 miles) twice a week. I am 59 years old so depends on how much my knees can take. This actually is a continuation of what I have been doing. The key for me is not hogging out at the end of the day. That’s been the problem. So the new part of my goals is dietary and also dry January (possibly beyond?). Let’s go!

30k meters rowing per month.

I average 1800 meters per 10 minute session.
I assume that is a lot, as I have no idea how rowing translates, because I hate it. Elliptical for me, although we have a pretty nice treadmill too. Elliptical I can lock in the heart rate keeping in step with music by adjusting the workload level, and push myself to the anaerobic switch without hitting it. Csb.

50 here, and ready to get fit and healthy, and get as shredded as I can while I still have a healthy amount of natural muscle mass. Posted this in another thread but I am going to start a big garden this year too, to promote healthy eating. Visions of pesto, bruschetta, and salsa made mostly from stuff I grow and such.

I assume that is a pretty good pace? What kind of rowing machine do you have? Expensive? Might be a good alternative for me if my knees give me problems….?
Elliptical is God’s gift to those with tricky knees. And swimming I suppose. But elliptical is less of a commitment heading down to the basement gym rather than a pool. At least in the winter.

I actually prefer the treadmill a bit to the elliptical. I put the incline to 13.5 and set the speed at 3.2mph. Do this for 45-60 minutes and you get a pretty good workout with cardio. I do this 2-4x/week with a couple of jogs (3miles) and a couple of long walks (6+miles). The weight will come off.

Gotta have decent tunes because the treadmill can get boring.

I will likely mix in treadmill once I lose some pounds. Right now elliptical is best for knees and sustainability.

how do you guys feel about tracker apps like Strava?
I would be curious what people think of it versus the standard app on the Apple Watch and others. When I program my weight and age into the elliptical, it is much more generous with calories burned than what my watch tells me. Not sure if that is precor propaganda or apple stinginess.

It really isn't once you get in shape and start going, but it's a high enough number I'm going to have to maintain consistency or there will be a few "back on pace" sessions.

It's funny and a good/ok workout per minute. We have built a routine where I row as my wife makes my daughter dinner and she rows as I feed my daughter so sometimes "10 minutes" for parents has to be good enough.

Anyway bro, best of luck, post more mammories, I'm going hunting.

2024 was a breakthru year for me as I adapted to a 2023 below knee amp. The key was acquiring an elliptical cross-trainer recumbent machine that allowed me to go low intensity long duration without stressing my stump much.
At 70 now my metabolism is slowing but the average of 100 to 120 minutes(2 sessions/day) helped me go from 210lb to 165.
Have gained back 10 lb over last 6 weeks.
Concerned about muscle loss and have been doing resistance bands but my goal is to maintain my cardio work but increase muscle with light lifting.
And not damage myself in the process. Stabilize around 172 which for a guy my height(5'11") is just into the normal range on the doc's BMI chart.
And maybe get me a woman to keep me from nighttime snacking!

Want to drop some weight and get in better shape so plan is:

  • January will be dry AND gummy free
  • Hit the gym 5 days a week with weights for 30 minutes and cardio 30-40 minutes-joined a close and low cost gym open 24/7
  • Lower carb intake, particularly the sweets
  • Going to try intermittent fasting and eating only from 12-8 (only possible by being gummy free🤣)

Mrs Knives has a garden every year. Nothing in the stores match a home grown tomato.

I hung a small tv on the wall and watch youtube hiking videos…

Not sure about that app but I have used NOOM in the past and actually will occasionally bounce back on it for periods. I lost a bunch of weight in it about 4 years ago but unfortunately was not able to keep it all off…☹️. I use a fitbit to track my steps and run distance…

Would like to get up to 180 with lifting, nothing heavy just dumbbells. 15 and 20 pound curls and other arm work outs mostly. Cutting back alcohol quite a bit. Already started that, had a few yesterday but first drinks I've had since Christmas, won't be drinking any other booze any time soon.

Would like to go from 200 and 10 percent bodyfat, to 205 and 8 percent. Improve my VO2 max, eat even cleaner than I currently do. Avoid injury.
Will you do a lean bulk or traditional bulk and cut?

I'm too old (51) for bulk and cut cycles. If I gain weight it's because I've gotten lazy with my eating habits. My goal is to stay (relatively) lean year round.

Lifting won't cause you to gain weight. Eating in a caloric surplus is generally the only way to make that happen.

If you gain weight and are only training with light dumbbells, most of that weight gain will be in the form of body fat.

Yes your diet is important also in putting on the weight I'm looking for. I turn 50 in May, this isn't my first go round with trying to put on weight. Been a struggle my whole life. If I don't do the light lifting to help add some muscle to my arms, back and chest then the weight just goes straight to my gut.

going to try and do a leanish bulk. I am in the middle of two weeks off of the gym. Planning on doing 6 days a week, with my split being (chest/back)(legs/Shoulder), rinse and repeat. going for 3 sets per muscle group to 1RIR per workout. So 9 total sets a week per muscle group. The science says this will add more mass.

Last couple years I did Olympic triathlons while still eating and drinking like shit. First year I’m going to (at least start the year) not drink and try to eat cleaner. Goal will be half Ironman at end of summer with Olympic at end of spring.

Fitness goals for this year:
Continue to go to the gym 2x per week with my 11 (almost 12) year old son. I want to teach him proper lifting technique.

For me personally, I want to drop some weight like most people. A good goal is 25 lbs. I've gained back 25 of the 35 lbs I lost in 2022. I have cut back on alcohol, but I'd like to cut soda. I don't drink coffee.

Diet Mt. Dew would be the biggest thing for me to drop

Lost 12 lbs in 2024, good but not great, 284 down to 272. Need to continue at the gym more often. 45 minutes to an hour - bike and treadmill. Knees, really start squaking at me when get mid to high 270's right now. Need to keep focus on eating, tend to binge eat too much, and too fatty of food. Need to incorporate more fruits and vegetables.

What about moderate weights with much higher reps? I do heavier weights in the beginning of the week, and switch to high reps like 40-50 with lighter weights. It gets tough at 40-50 reps. Burns like hell…
