Next week vs Troy (0-2)

Memphis beat Troy 38-17 yesterday, I think it was.

Sullivan should start. Period. But after 25 years, we all know that ain't gonna happen unless Cade comes up with another injury which, to be honest, might be the only thing that could save this season. Cade has done his best to recover from several devastating injuries, and I thought he was moving around well vs. Illinois State. But yesterday, he looked more like who he is . . . a shadow of his Michigan self whose injuries have him looking and playing like a 50-year-old.

No excuse whatsoever for not playing Sullivan early in the second half yesterday. And absolutely no excuse for not starting a kid who has plenty of BIG experience and two years of eligibility. Sullivan can throw, he's mobile, and he can run, all of which would add many more dimensions to what we now know without a doubt is the Kirk Ferentz offense.

C'mon, Beth. Tell KF he can either change QBs or start watching all the games at home in retirement. Even Nick Saban walked away. If KF refuses, then politely show him the door.

You were doing great until that last paragraph. The AD isn't going to tell the football HC who to play at QB. But, if KF wants to die on that hill, and Iowa has what looks like could be an extremely disappointing season, I'm sure that will factor heavily into BG's future plans for the football program.

This is a get right game for Cade. A game where KF will refer to for the rest of his life, no matter what happens after. Something like.. reporter: “hey Kirk will you do any additional evaluation of the qb position after Cade went 2-25 with a few interceptions?”

“It’s part of football we evaluate everything, we evaluated him after the third game where he threw some touchdowns and led the team to a victory; but if you’re asking if there will be a change? No, he is our quarterback.”

It might be a blessing if Troy did the upset. Let's get this slow spiraling death of the Ferentz Dynasty over. Five more years of this agonizing bullshit? He needs to be on the hot seat and made to feel damn uncomfortable and not wanted here. The parade has passed by this old man.

I wouldn't be surprised to see like a 50-7 type beatdown next week.... fans going "wtf is this... couldn't do this last week"... and then for Cade to look like he's never touched a football before once Big 10 play starts
Correct. Although, I fully expect us to slog through Troy as well.

But yeah once we start playing conference opponents we'll go right back to the turd offense we're accustomed to. Everyone selling out to stop the run and our receivers being about as useful as cardboard cutouts running routes like they're on an electronic football board.

How does Troy get on the schedule?
The same way an UNI, or Ill St, or NDST, or Wyoming does. One patsy, Iowa St, one lesser G5 school.

I watched quite a bit of the Troy v Memphis game. Troy isn't good and I see an Iowa victory along the lines of 1,000,000 to 3.

Memphis is a solid G5 team, and they'd probably beat both Iowa and ISU straight-up. They've been mentioned (along with Liberty and Boise) as one of the most likely candidates to represent the G5 in the playoff.

Troy might not be good, but they do have some pieces (i.e. SEC/ACC transfers) so they're not totally devoid of talent. If Iowa plays ho-hum, things could get uncomfortable. Iowa should win 38-7, but it'll probably end up being 24-14.

I see a 27-21 or a 21-16 type game. Always in a one score and one fluke play away from losing the game.
Sort of like that Arkansas State game from 2009 (I think). Iowa was able to keep the Red Wolves at arm's length but could never pull away.

Troy has a lousy record, but Iowa simply cannot afford to sleepwalk in this one. If the Hawks turn the ball over and/or commit some ill-timed penalties, the Trojans can absolutely bite the Hawks in the ass. The upset isn't likely (~10 percent chance), but the chance isn't nonexistent either.

I've got season tickets. Always have since my freshman year. It's funny how excited I used to get for games. The last few years have been a thief of joy.

I'm still processing how we lost that game today. Yuck.
Our coaches have managed to remove all of the joy I used to have watching Iowa Football. Now it’s just three tense hours of waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Good post I agree with most of what you said

Iowa should win comfortably, but they need to come ready to play. Troy usually has some very fine athletes and can be a problem at times. They beat LSU in Tiger stadium just a few years ago. Good program.

Iowa opened as 22 point favorites. Iowa will win easily and everyone will be happy again for 6 days

It will be like a 35 - 13 game. Johnson should have 150 yards or better rushing. Hey, maybe we will target Lachey more too.
