Niang looks like he has cement in his moon boots

I think ISU will still be good next year at least. Return some solid pieces and bring in some good players. You couldn't pay me to go to Cyclone Fanatic within 48 hours of a loss. I really don't go over there even when things are good. McKay has been disappointing lately so I can only imagine how bad he's getting ripped over there.

IF Monte Morris returns they have a chance to be decent.

Niang has been a great college player for 4 years and deserves respect for that. Unfortunately, for him, I don't think his game will translate well to the next level.

Oh, and some of you guys are just plain dicks when it comes to commenting on his weight. I'm guessing most of you aren't chiseled from stone.

Having earlier said it's ridiculous for fans of Iowa and ISU to be talking about next season when both are still expected to have outstanding seasons this year.....

On paper, ISU should be a good team next season. Not as good as this year because there is no Niang, and he does so many things for the team. But at this point I think the odds favor Morris returning -- haven't seen him projected very highly in the NBA draft -- and any team with a point guard as good as Monte Morris is going to be decent. Add Matt Thomas, who is having a year that should earn him some kind of all-conference honor; a healthy Naz Long; and Deonte Burton, and that's a pretty damned good foursome on which to build a team.

Several of the recruits look extremely promising, but I don't count on recruits until they show up eligible, healthy, and at least half as talented as they're hyped up to be.

Of course, Morris may not come back, Naz may be denied a hardship waiver or not be fully recovered, and the recruits may turn out to suck. In that case, ISU will not be a good team.

He had 24 pts, 8 rebounds and 4 assists on 10-16 shooting. Not bad for a slow guy
No doubt about it. When I say slow, I am comparing to Niang last season. He looks to me to have gained back the weight and is not as good as he could be. But to be clear Niang is pretty dang good with or without the weight.

He's been much better this year than he was last year so if he put some weight on I hope he keeps eating.

What are the Clones, 7-6 in conference play. NO WAY should a team with that much returning talent should have that conference record. Prohm appears to be a major step down from Hoiberg.
Actually this season has played out remarkably similar to last season at this point. When you consider that ISU lost Hogue, BDJ (probably addition by subtraction), and Long while essentially adding only Burton (hot and cold at best) I don't know how you make that judgement.

Actually the Cyclones are just one win shy of where they were after they had played the same teams in the same venues as last year. They can finish with the same record of 12-6 as last season if they win their last five games. That is a tall order though as they have to play at Kansas on their senior night and at W. Virginia who the Cyclones swept last year but lost to them for the first time at Hilton this year.

It's to bad for them that they aren't able to see what they could have accomplished with Naz Long in the line up.

As for BDJ he is doing better than some players drafted as he has been a starter for the New Orleans Pelicans since mid January so players can still make it if they get the right opportunity. He played very well for them and was their leading scorer in the summer league and he also played very well in pre-season games for them.

How many points with the game on the line?
This is ironic. Wasn't it your best player who disappeared in the second half and in fact missed the final shot against ISU? Similar performance in loss vs Maryland. Uthoff puts up some nice stats, except when the game is on the line.

Don't players typically improve as they age. I mean come on dude, there is NO way with the returning talent you had, you should be a .500 team in the Big 12. No flipping way. Make BS excuses all you want, but you should be better. End of story

just rehire Fred in two years because the Bulls are underachieving as well.

With all the talent Michigan State has they shouldn't be 8th in the Big Ten. ISU still really has strong numbers even though they'll go 10-8 in the Big 12. They got a new coach, lost a starter and will still be a 4 seed

With all of that talent returning I would agree but they are all that talent minus Naz Long. You can't convince me and probably many others that wouldn't have been a big difference in the four conference games that ISU has lost by 3 to 5 points.

The Bulls were doing very well beating East front runner Lebron and the Cavs in their first game of the season and even at Cleveland since. Probably will be a different story when they play them tonight because team leader Jimmy Butler is out for several weeks yet with injury as well as starter Mirotic plus multi year starter Noah has been out with injury for several weeks and all three will be out several weeks more.

I think it is notable that Noah and Gasol are free agents this year and had long said before Fred went there they would opt out at the end of this season. Now both say they want to stay.

IMO Michigan State did not have as much returning talent as ISU. Great you will be a four seed. I don't like ISU but before the season I would have been shocked if the Clones were worse than a 2. They were a consensus top 10 team and higher in many polls.

Only a Cyclone fan would think they have met expectations. Quite arguing and admit they have not played to potential. But they could absolutely get hot and still make noise in NCAA tourney.

Your three most impactful players are still on the court. When Jamal is behaving that is

I expected them to be a 2 seed before the season. That was before they lost Naz though

I don't think the Cyclones have met the expectations that fans expected with the talent coming back but then they didn't all come back. Naz might not ever be able to play at the level he was last year but I hope for his sake as a player that does not happen. Anyone that is realistic would know Long's absence should lower the Cyclones potential for this season. I guess the Cyclones aren't suffering from tired legs as they are tied with Indiana for 2nd of the 351 teams in field goal percentage at 50.3% as a team.

Niang has been an incredible player for ISU and I would have LOVED him to be a Hawkeye. He is an all B1G 12 player and will make many all american teams. Anyone trashing Niang's play is a fool.

Actually you can never expect a linear track of improvement for players. They're all different. Niang is a good example. He's a skilled big guy with very limited athleticism. His ceiling isn't that high frankly. He's improved but probably nearly reached his peak much sooner than a lot of guys. I would say Gessell is similar. He's a decent athlete and a smart player but he's limited. He hasn't added a lot to his game over his career. Jok is on the other end of the spectrum. His linear development has been very impressive and the exciting thing, for you guys, is that it's hard to know where the ceiling is yet.

I guess I like seniors because they don't typically make some of the mistakes you see freshman make. That is more my point. They improve in their decision making, etc

Oh yeah I completely agree. I honestly don't know what to make of Prohm at this point. This season has been disappointing but not disasterous. Fred left him a lot of talent and experience, but he also left him little depth and a few... I'll just say challenges.
