Nic Shimonek

If he couldn't understand Iowa's offense, I have a hard time believing he'll understand a pro offense.

Would be kind of crazy to see 3 guys who were on Iowa's roster at the same time end up drafted, plus Sokol had a nice senior year and claims the Broncos talked to him about picking him in the 7th round.

LOL, our offensive coordinator didn't even understand that embarrassment of an offense. I don't fault this kid one bit.

Do you remember watching our wideouts try and figure out which hot-route to run during the Davis/Kennedy years? Painful was putting it nicely.

Some Iowa mentions in the article. I wish the kid well:

Very interesting read. Thanks. Its nice to see that Iowa's pro style system and the young guns they're bringing in are starting to get some attention. JR, CJ, now Shimonek, hell Ricky got a 4 or 5 year run, and may have had more if he'd gotten a fair shake in KC. Now we have Stanley, who showed well in his first year, and some young guns in the pipeline. Can't do anything but help the future of QB, and maybe WR recruiting to start placing more QB's in the league.

Considering our recent difficulties getting QB's into the league (hat tip to Ricky), could any of us have even imagined having three QB's from the same position room there this coming season, with another coming right behind? The times they are a'changing ... but as always, it's great to be a Hawk!

I just listened to the Hawk central pod so I will add these numbers in for reference. Since 2001 Iowa has had a top 50 offense 5 times, the last of which was 2006. It has been 100th or above 4 times. Take that fwiw.

Pretty ugly. Of course, Iowa's numbers are lower than a non-fan might expect, simply due to the offensive and overall philosophy. Even taking that into account, it has been below average to bad. My personal opinion is that the biggest failings have been a simple lack of aggression, lack of creativity/mixing it up/keeping defense guessing, and failure to scratch where it itches so to speak. The underlying schemes are fine, just need that edge so to speak. That is where I am hoping the infusion of new and young coaches with different opinions will start to pay dividends.

Pace of play impacts the numbers, so posting total yardage being in the 100s doesn't mean a great deal.

2013 and 2014 offenses ranked in the 60s nationally in offensive efficiency. Not great, but also not in the 100s.

Pace of play cuts both ways. It makes our defense look better.

And to think, Nic was a Greg Davis recruit via that incredibly deep Texas pipeline Greg built <insert sarcasm> ... and yet he stayed here one year.

I posted both offensive efficiency and pass yards/game. I went to NCAA.com and it told me Iowa ranked 112th in 2013 and 83rd in 2014 in passing efficiency.

All Iowa coaches gain intelligence after they leave,.... KOK became so smart that we had to hire him back....
To be fair, nobody ever questions KOK's ability to develop QB's. His ability to be a coordinator became stale to many after 10+ years on the job. Hiring him back as a QB coach, mentor, and decades of football experience at pretty much every level known to man was a good decisions IMO. I honestly think this is the best staff we have had since the early 2000's. A good mix of old and young. You have the best positional coach in the country with Morgan, PP is top notch DC and DB coach, KOK already mentioned, KF is o-line guru, coach P working with OL after winning National Chamionships as coordinator at ND State, Wallace was an outstanding DC in Georgia and LB's looked great last year, Foster seems like he is off and running with the RB's, coach Copeland looks like he could kick pretty much every WR coaches ass in the country- Northern Illinois is a great program, coach Woods focusing on special teams should improve that position, obviously Doyle is best in business at strength, coach Bell is doing awesome with recruiting.....

I can't find 2013 and 2014 passing efficiency on ncaa.com, can you share a link?
