Should we be concerned about how bad Butler is right now? If Thad Matta gets fired and his staff is let go, would Fran hang around just to bring Connor back on his staff? Normally, a coach wouldn’t make that move but all Iowa fans know, having lived through the Brian Ferentz fiasco, that rationality can go out the window with family being involved.

My reaction were that to happen:

The fans did become quite irrational about it

Fran shouldn't have the option to simply "hang around."

Thank you for your service, FM, but you gotta go. By that I mean get fired.

Why would Fran have to wait until Matta got fired? He could hire Connor now or at season end. The nightmare scenario is hire Connor and to get rid of Spurlock

I mean Fran obviously set Connor up and probably hoped things would work out with Butler and Thad and they haven’t. So you either have to find him a new place or worst case, for a lot of reasons, bring him back as an assistant.

worst case, IMHO

There is no proof that KF put his family above the program.

To leap to that judgement lacks respect
Ummm yeah he did. When you keep an OC who had one of the bottom 5 units nationally 3 years running and the worst in the big 10 in last 20 years that definitely is. And only reason he was fired was because of the AD. No where else in the nation and with any other last name there would’ve been a new OC in 23’ except Kirk doubled down and added qb coach to his duties.

If you watched Iowa offensive football from 2021 to 2023, then the words “Brian Ferentz” is the only proof needed!

Really poor characterization of what happened.

And not even factually correct. BF was QB coach before '23.

Judging BF, as an OC, based on '22 and '23 makes absolutely no sense. First of all, you don't judge someone at their worst. But the main problems in those two seasons had very little to do with BF. The problem in '22 was having the worst O-line I've ever seen at Iowa. The problem in '23 was most of the season was played with the worst QB I've ever seen play significant snaps at Iowa. And the line was still pretty poor.

Iowa averaged 9 wins those seasons. And I'm guessing KF was well aware that the main problems on offense had very little to do with BF. But you guys have your nepotism narrative to maintain.

If KF ever put anything ahead of his team, he sure had a weird way of showing it, because '18-'23 was his winningest six year stretch at Iowa

the proof is a new OC came in, without a recruiting class, and took the offense from 120th to to 73rd in one year. and went from 15 ppg to 27 ppg. His son sucked as a OC and everyone knew it except him and everyone swinging from his ****ing nuts.

None of that proves that KF put BF ahead of the team.

Happy to have Lester. Overall, the offense will end up better for it.

But the offense would have also seen improvement under BF last season, as the O-line was set to develop into a good group, along with a substantial uptick in QB play

an uptick in QB play? lmfao. what was that? the giant leap that CM made? or was it the back up that came in under Lester? Or the walk on that came in under Lester? Or the 131st pass offense that resulted from all three?
Lester made chicken salad out of chicken shit in 2024. Because he is a competent coach. And it will only get better. BF was a failure that should have been fired in 2022. A national joke. He wasn't because his boss was his dad. That is why his superiors had to step in.

stop it.

The nightmare scenario is Fran doesn't get fired and Iowa misses out on Devries or McCollum.

Loser mentality. With an average big ten offense in those five years Iowa would have multiple big ten championships. And we had Brian Ferentz.

Doubled the scoring last season and won two less games
It’s almost like there’s something in football called defense. And from my understanding it’s like where you stop the other team from scoring. Well, Iowa had its worst defense in a long time this past season even though it had a much improved offense. Almost like you shouldn’t be wasting generational defenses in 2022 and 2023 with an offensive genius like Brian Ferentz?!? 🤔😊

He'll be hired somewhere if this AD shits the bed again by bringing Fran back.

One more year of Fran is not important either way but missing out on the right hire at a place like Iowa with limited options compared to it's competition means everything.
that's what will happen unless FM decides to step away.

Because the defense regressed
May have missed the point on that one?
