So much bitching about officiating in the game thread.
It was evenly called and we deserved what we got.

The goaltend being called back was the worst call for me. Ball is in the cylinder and a guy touches the rim always ends it. With hands on the rim you can deaden the bounce even if you don’t touch the ball. That call was absolutely pathetic. I had beefs in other areas, but Iowa got away with some also…but that goaltend…yeesh.
So....Fran is off his Christmas card list?
No, it was basket interference, by the very definition in the rule bookIt was not a goaltend.
Good job Mike. Steer the conversation away from the fact that you were completely out-coached and your players choked.
There was a tech called at the 4-second mark. Would have loved to hear that conversation.Good job Mike. Steer the conversation away from the fact that you were completely out-coached and your players choked.
As others have said, it was basket interference, not a goaltend. It was not a goaltend.

Section 15. Basket Interference and Goaltending
Art. 1. It is a violation to commit basket interference or goaltending.
Art. 2. Basket interference:
a: Basket interference occurs when a player:
1) Touches the ball or any part of the basket while the ball is on or within the basket. If the touching of the basket involves contact with the net only, the official must determine if the touching had any effect on the ball which would rise to the level of basket interference;
It appears that these refs need to brush up on the damn rules. Pathetic.
Looks like if the NET is the only thing touched, then it is a judgement call.
Rim and backboard are basket interference. So there were TWO obvious basket interference calls missed by the refs.
Not surprising, since they miss all the hand checking
yeah, I was unaware that "didn't influence" was a thing. Never heard that in my life. The goaltend being called back was the worst call for me. Ball is in the cylinder and a guy touches the rim always ends it. With hands on the rim you can deaden the bounce even if you don’t touch the ball. That call was absolutely pathetic. I don't have a replay but my recollection of the replay in the game......Indiana kid had BOTH hands, or fingers from both hands, wrapped around and touching the rim while the ball was in the cylinder.Does anyone have a replay that can be shared?
This is correct.I don't have a replay but my recollection of the replay in the game......Indiana kid had BOTH hands, or fingers from both hands, wrapped around and touching the rim while the ball was in the cylinder.
This is correct.
Even the announcers said it was goal tending in their view.
One announcer was the former Wisconsin player I believe.
Explain it oh wise oneThe announcers calling it a goaltend shows they don't know the rules very well.
Correct, I used the wrong term. It was absolutely basket interference. As others have said, it was basket interference, not a goaltend.

Explain. Based on the exact wording from the rule book it is basket interference. It’s been posted if you need to read it.That does not meet the threshold for basket interference, however.
Actually it doesThat does not meet the threshold for basket interference, however.
No it does not. A player is allowed to touch the rim if the ball is simply in the cylinder and not on or in the basket. However, he is not allowed to touch the rim in a manner which may affect the FG attempt.Actually it does.
Can you show us all where that is the rule book? The rule that has been posted makes no mention of what you are claiming. No it does not. A player is allowed to touch the rim if the ball is simply in the cylinder and not on or in the basket. However, he is not allowed to touch the rim in a manner which may affect the FG attempt.
If you’re grabbing the rim, it changes the way the ball bounces. But whatever, they didn’t call it.No it does not. A player is allowed to touch the rim if the ball is simply in the cylinder and not on or in the basket. However, he is not allowed to touch the rim in a manner which may affect the FG attempt.

It was within this section…..as I understand it the rim is part of the basket….and though I don’t recall exactly I believe his fingers were still on the rim as the ball started to fall through the basket…. But yeah, should see the replay.
Wrong. And you have been proven wrong. Let it go.That does not meet the threshold for basket interference, however.
They did show a closeup and he had 8 fingers around the rim, IIRC. I’ll take a look also.I went back and found a highlight of the play, but it was from the regular cameras so couldn't see it with the precision one would want to be able to tell for sure. I thought in the game they showed a close up of the hands on the rims, but that was not in the highlight video I watched. Will keep looking and if I see it will get it posted and tag you so we can discuss.
