North Carolina athletes forced into Majoring in African American Studies to stay eligible

Scoutrefugee - Is the Scout in your name referencing a certain kind of Scout? My interest is piqued because I am still a registered adult Boy Scout in southeast Iowa. I am no longer a Scoutmaster but was for 10 years. I created and Scoutmastered a troop of the mentally handicapped in 1978 and then took as many as 28 MR (both children and adults) scouts to summer camp every year for 10 years.
No. I used to belong to the Iowa Scout.com message board but the admins left and it turned into a ghost town.

I was banned on HI by Rob and now that he is gone from there they have tried to get me to come back but I'm Irish so I am now on HR. Was on and still occasionally post on VOTH but the Nanny factor destroyed the VOTHOT and most everyone I like there left.

I wasn't banned. I just left. There was no interesting conversation.

Obviously that's not an issue on here. All kinds of interesting stuff going on. I do find that the information supplied by many posters does help me understand Iowa football, basketball and wrestling better. Some very astute people. I had a subscription to "Voice of the Hawkeyes" magazine clear back when Larry Lawrence was there. I remember an article about Ravelings recruiting and the fact that he had actually got Romeal Robinson and J. R. Reid to come and visit Iowa. Pretty cool stuff then.

I read the books and all of the emails and documents released. I saw the list of fake classes UNC provided SACS. That's why SACS placed UNC on academic probation. The first time it's ever happened to a tier 1 research institute. I saw a lot of the same fake classes that were also on Michael Jordan's transcript. I know that Dean Smith was the architect and Burgess Mcswain was his facilitator.
So go ahead and tell me what I don't know.

Scumbag. But he makes no pretenses these days, does he?
No he doesn't, the king of the one and done crowd. I seriously doubt that the number of major college sport programs out there can make a claim to be and to always have been, squeaky clean in their recruiting. My opinion is purely based on anecdotal evidence, but if you want a look at how long problems like this have been around, just read Connie Hawkins "Foul".

Interesting name for the upcoming 30 for 30 on Calipari coming up. It's called One and Not Done. :)

What I find interesting is the justification angle pointing others do it. This is the poorest excuse possible. How about just claiming we got caught and are working to clean it up and abide by the rules. While it may appear that taking down a blue blood is bad for colegiate athletics, that is exactly what needs to be done to UNC. Ban them from postseason play for 4 years and cut their scholarships in half. Roy would retire and new leadership would take over.

We're talking about classes. We're sitting here and we're talkin about classes. I mean, listen we're talkin about classes, not a game, not a game, we're talkin about classes. I know I supposed to be there. I know I'm supposed to lead by example... I know that... And I'm not.. I'm not shoving it aside, you know, like it don't mean anything. I know it's important, I do. I honestly do... But we're talking about classes man. What are we talking about? Classes?

If your the parent of a highly rated basketball player right now, are you looking more toward your sons shot at the NBA, or what little education he'll get at a supposed school of higher education like UNC? So what happens if he doesn't make it or he is injured? How well prepared to function in life will he be?

Unfortunately, I think it has close to zero impact. Of course there are exceptions, but for the most the kids who are good enough to get scholarship offers from blue blood programs assume that they are headed to big pay days and long careers in the NBA. I doubt they ever consider fall back options.
