North Korean forces are backing Russia inside Ukraine, officials say

Exactly,.. It would be 1000X more difficult than the reunification of Germany...

A full scale attack of Seoul would mean the end of North Korea. It’s why they haven’t done it.

South Korea at this point has no real political desire for reunification because of how expensive it would be to integrate North Koreans into their economy and society.

I don’t disagree. But I think the integration might be easier than we might think. Certainly a lot easier than anywhere in the Middle East that would be in a similar situation (I do realize there isn’t anywhere).

Exactly. It would be like a Major League Baseball team deciding to double its roster and filling the new spots with beer league softball players out of Oklahoma.

The drone stuff is probably terrifying for the North Koreans. Their entire artillery strategy is no longer viable given the maneuverability of drones.

You’re not wrong. But when you have a brainwashed military and leadership, it’s not as scary as it should be. The artillery would be to inflict as much damage and pain before going down.

The world isn’t dealing with a military or country with a full deck.

Yup. South Korea has an underemployment/under-utilization problem with one of the best educated and modern workforces on the planet.

Reunification would set their standard of living back 20+ years.

I agree that there’s no scenario where North Korea attacks Seoul-Incheon that isn’t absolutely devastating.

I disagree that the leadership is brainwashed. I think the Kims have been incredibly savvy in only doing what they can get away with and stay in power. There’s tremendous self-preservation there.

Yes they do, but it’s not enough to keep Seoul completely safe. Any attack on Seoul would still be devastating.

There is a lot at play on both sides of Korea and engaging each other in war again would cost a lot of civilian lives on both sides. It’s why there hasn’t been an attempt to invade and “unify” Korea from either side.
Which is why attacking North Korea over s small number of troops in Ukraine is idiotic. Those troops will not move the needle at all and most likely are just meat for the grinder.

Exactly what we are doing with immigration. We are taking the unskilled, uneducated dregs of the society’s they come from. We are hoping to replace a bunch of highly educated people who chose not to reproduce. It’s not going to end well.

Whether it’s idiotic or not, the opportunity has presented itself and North Korea understands that; which is why they are taking the actions they are to protect itself.

A small number of troops and resources could just be a start. It will also be military experience gained that North Korea did not previously have.

There’s a reason the world is taking notice of North Korea sending troops and resources to aid Russia in its war with Ukraine.

My understanding is that these were REMFers killed by a strike behind the lines.
Perhaps technicians associated with the missiles being supplied?

Anyway, I haven't seen anything to suggest Norks are taking front line roles in the meat grinder.

JFC...this is a TERRIBLE take. The post right above it was solid and then you immediately reminded me of how you think about brown people.

It’s a good thing Seoul and other heavily populated areas of South Korea have a dense missile defense network, that includes American made Patriot and THAAD systems. Pretty high quality stuff. Not to mention their top-notch L-SAM technology. And of course there’s the South Korean Air Force to consider, which thanks to us, would immediately dominate NK’s airspace and bomb Kim and his cohorts at will.
All that stuff is useless against artillery though.

Interesting. The Russian military is in far worse shape than I thought if the are calling for support from North Korea.

North Korea is also kind of exposing themselves too in sending munitions and soldiers. I’m guessing North Korea might have support from China in doing this as well. Otherwise, why would they open themselves up?
They are trading lives for technology and hard currency. Fatty Un doesn’t care about his people.

An exaggeration sure, but it would be devastating to their infrastructure and plenty would die. I’m sure South Korea has measures in place in the event North Korea would launch an attack.
They do. And, dictators value self preservation over everything else. If Fatty Un moves south his time on the Iron Throne ends. His dynasty ends.

Sure. All those college educated folks in the US are refusing to hang drywall and work in dairy barns.

You are correct, but here is the thing, THAAD isn’t designed to stop SRBMs. Patriot will do okay until it goes Winchester, then it will be taken out.
It’s a numbers problem.

Huh? THAAD was designed specifically to counter all types of ballistic missiles. Are you sure you weren’t referring to cruise missiles?

Agreed. Regardless, the response from South Korea to a massive missile attack from the North would be catastrophic to North Korea. SK would give significantly more than they’d get.
Yep. They'd hit 'em so hard they'd no longer be able to provide electricity to 90 percent of the country at night.

Wait....

That is true of the North Koreans killed so far but some claim that 3,000-10,000 NK are being sent to Russia to be prepared for combat. It appears that it was some of these troops who have managed to defect already.

"The battalion is expected to include up to 3,000 North Korean troops and is currently being supplied with small arms and ammunition.
The battalion may be deployed near Sudzha and Kursk, close to the Ukrainian border, though it’s unclear exactly where they will be sent.
The Washington Post had earlier reported that thousands of North Korean infantrymen were undergoing training in Russia, with the possibility of being sent to Ukraine by the end of 2024."

If this is true, that would be devastating for Russia. Good Korea is one of the largest manufacturer of NATO mil-spec munitions in the world. They’re also one of the most cost effective producers.

Their heavy equipment, missiles, and electronic warfare systems are also some of the most advanced in the world.

Theater High Altitude Area Defense THAAD

Thanks for the graphics. This information is incorrect them?

What is the THAAD system?

THAAD is an advanced missile defence system that uses a combination of radar and interceptors to thwart short-, medium- and intermediate-range ballistic missiles. Its missiles have a range of 150 to 200km (93 to 124 miles), and the system is made by US defence and aerospace manufacturer Lockheed Martin.

China won't let that happen.
Just like last time.

In the same way Russia wants Ukraine as a buffer state, the Chicoms want to keep North Korea Best Korea.

Along with the SK forces here is enough US air power on the Korean Peninsula, in Japan and Guam, and on the one aircraft carrier we always have prowling around out there to pummel North Korean invaders. The North Korean Air Force is non existent. They don't trust their pilots to fly near the border for fear they will defect.
Yes, NK could unleash a lot of shells and missiles on Seoul, but Seoul is a massive urban area. Civilians would die before they could get into bunkers or basements, but it would not be long before anything moving on the NK side of the DMZ was targeted and destroyed.

Hundreds of thousands? Put the crack pipe down JFC 😂
Just another topic you are ignorant on. Almost all of NK conventional weapons are target at Seoul, which happens to be one of the most populous cities in the world. Japan would also feel some of the impact. North Korea would then be wiped off the face of the Earth.

I don't know why N.Korea wants to get involved in Ukraine beyond sending arms.

That said, how is N.Korea sending troops to help Russia in it's war any different from other countries sending their troops to help us fight our wars over the years?
