His brother was the WSU QB who commuted suicideHillinski?

I knew you couldn’t resist showing your true colors!Top transfer QB in the portal!

How’s that work? His brother was the WSU QB who commuted suicide
Hopefully he is as good as the last highly rated QB transfer they had from a school in South Carolina (I think Hunter Johnson was from Clemson and he was very bad).
Correct. Ramsey is not returning. And Hilinski is not a grad transfer; he will have three years of eligibility remaining. NU recruited him early out of high school, so it is not surprising that he is ending up there.I take it that means Ramsey is not returning?
Don’t be fooled. BigNUFan51 is a Nebraska fan.I knew you couldn’t resist showing your true colors!
No. No he is not.Don’t be fooled. BigNUFan51 is a Nebraska fan.
By all accounts, Johnson is a great kid who has all the physical tools and can make all the throws. He just can’t read defenses and make quick decisions, and he is too quiet to be a leader. Hilinski appears to have leadership qualities.Hopefully he is as good as the last highly rated QB transfer they had from a school in South Carolina (I think Hunter Johnson was from Clemson and he was very bad).
Well, he regularly posts pro-Frost stuff on the Nebraska board and does nothing but troll the Northwestern board.No. No he is not.
Yeah, @IowaHawkeyeFBnBB4Life is very similar and we all know he’s an Iowa fan.Well, he regularly posts pro-Frost stuff on the Nebraska board and does nothing but troll the Northwestern board.
Ok NUFan51 or HawkCatDon’t be fooled. BigNUFan51 is a Nebraska fan.
This will not be their business model for the long term. This is happening out of necessity because they had a couple of late decommitments and completely whiffed at recruiting a QB in three or four straight classes after Thorson. Now that they have replaced the OC, this should change. NU would much rather keep a kid on campus for five years after having him redshirt.Probably a good pick up for Northwestern. However if I am a high school QB recruit I think I would cross Northwestern off my list as this is 3 years in a row brought in a transfer for the position.

And neither of them are any goodIt was going to be Cale Millen or Hilinski as a the likely heir apparent to Thorson. Millen committed first and Hilinski subsequently committed to South Carolina. Millen de-committed late in the process and Hunter Johnson ended up transferring.
Now the cats have the #2 ranked pro style QB from 2017 and 2019 battling for the job.
And neither of them are any good
They aren’t obviously talented just because of HS rating.Iron sharpens iron. I’d take a competition between two obviously talented players over what is going on at Ioa.

I respect the shit out of Fat Pat's willingness to go into the portal and create competition, I have been very vocal that I am of the belief this should have been done at the QB position this year at Iowa. I do not think you can build long term stability in a program by taking the Michigan model and always going with a transfer but Fat Pat seems to be utilizing the portal better than the Iowa staff.
We might be utilizing it "more" but his results since using it are higher, thus I said "better".Without really looking I would guess the Iowa staff has used transfer portal as much if not more than NU. Just not at the QB position.
Yeah totally disagree on them using the portal better than Iowa. I mean you can point to Ramsey but I don't know anyone else off the top of my head.I respect the shit out of Fat Pat's willingness to go into the portal and create competition, I have been very vocal that I am of the belief this should have been done at the QB position this year at Iowa. They have added the pieces they have needed to add, even if role players, to win the division 2 of 3.Yeah totally disagree on them using the portal better than Iowa. I mean you can point to Ramsey but I don't know anyone else off the top of my head.
Who have they added that helped them win the division besides Ramsey? I mean credit to them for winning but really Ramsey wasn't the reason they beat Iowa. It was their defense. They have added the pieces they have needed to add, even if role players, to win the division 2 of 3.

And I don't believe the portal had anything to do with them winning two years ago.

More freshmen than you think, considering it was against a 2nd string defense in a blowout while throwing 57 times.Recruiting rankings don’t equate to success (especially at QB which is notoriously difficult to evaluate), but I do believe l highly rated kids do demonstrate significant talent/raw tools that separates them from their peers.
Hilinski started a full season in the SEC as a true freshman. How many true freshman can go into Tuscaloosa and throw for 300 yds?

It's more telling that this past season he threw a grand total of 6 pass attempts, and was by all accounts the 3rd string QB by the end of the season.
You would have to ask them on all the lesser known players I just know since the portal has become a thing they have gotten atleast 1 good QB and have won the division twice. I dont care if KF and crew go into the portal to get our team first class water boys if it means we win the division. What spices Fat Pat is putting into the mix is resulting in him having a more competitive team than us and the portal seems to be part of it.
Duh you are going to want every piece possible to try and make a complete picture out of the puzzle next year. It doesn't mean this kid is the focal piece. And their new head coach was trying to convince him to stay. South Carolina was a dumpster fire the last two years. Muschamp burnt it to the ground.
Love him or hate him, fat pat knows the recipe for beating KF football teams.I think it is more to do with their coaching vs ours. Specifically Iowa's offensive staff vs there defensive staff. We play right into their hands. I mean the division basically came down to that game this year and Iowa crapped the bed specifically because of horrible offensive play calling in the second half.
Seems like a mixed message to some extent. They recruit guys at QB ... but those guys are what? Not developing as anticipated? So what does Northwestern do ... they hit the free-agency trail?
I get the urgency to win in the short-term ... and that motivates them to fill their personnel at a position of perceived weakness. However, for their "normal" recruits ... it's not just a message that they're trying to create more competition.
At some positions ... particularly those that potentially are prone to have guys get dinged ... it can send the message that they're only trying to build depth (and that is more likely to be respected and even appreciated by the players). But when you're doing that at positions often ruled by a guy who is deemed "the man" ... then I can definitely see the possibility for negative unintended consequences.
