Northwestern

They got their ass whooped down there last year too. Other than 2015, they're horrible in noncon games. They don't have the talent to overwhelm any team, they do best in the games where they play familiar teams/coaches, and dissect every single possible match-up and play call.

And, like Iowa, it takes four or five games to get the new guys playing at their best. It's the difference between 2 and 3 stars playing their first games and 4 and 5 stars playing their first games.

Fitzgerald IS a good coach, he is in the same situation as Iowa, turning 2 stars into something. Does very well with what he gets, some good years, some bad.

He's no better, and probably worse than their previous two coaches. Gary Barnett and Randy Walker had better conference records and each won a Big Ten title. So at most, Pitty-Patty McFitzfitz is just keeping it going.

Fitz gets a ton of credit for his ten win seasons, but those good years come when he has a favorable schedule. In the three seasons he has won ten games, he has beat a total of three ranked teams. NW never really challenges for a conference or division title either. I think he’s a decent coach, not a great one.

I think this is a typical NW team. That is, one that is capable of giving up a lot of points on any given day, one that can be pushed around a bit, and one that won’t be a serious contender in the West.

Big West not looking very good today. Purdue and Northwestern looked bad. Iowa Wisconsin game will be huge in a few weeks.
