...the non-conference schedule again before once again resuming BIG play. Is this really a good idea?

I not a fan in either basketball or football. That being said, it might work out well for the Hawks this year playing Penn St and @ Indiana right before the Iowa St. game. Win those 3 games and people on here will be pretty happy.

Interesting....

I find these games pretty intriguing but I'm not sure if it's a good idea or not.

I think those games will require a higher level of intensity and cohesion in execution on both ends of the floor. Will we be ready for that? Penn State has talent and experience......Indiana has a new coach and a new system.

In short, I think it's a great time to catch Indiana at their place but not as sure about Penn St.

Good topic

It all stems from the season ending a week earlier so that the BTT can be in the MSG. They play them early enough in December so they don't interfere with finals or after break starts. I assume that we won't see this next year.
Since our toughest nonconference games are played outside of Iowa City this season, it improves the December home schedule if nothing else.

I wonder how the impending 20 game Big Ten schedules will effect the schedules.

I am sure I am in thr minority here, but I would like to see conference and non conference games all jumbled together. I would have the first few games be non-conference and the last few be conference to put the focus on the conference as it winds down, but mixing up the rest of the season could add a lot of fun and surprises.

It's partly because of the BTT in New York, as well as the coaches not liking the conference games being played while students are still on Christmas break. After PSU and Indiana, Iowa doesn't play a conference game again until Jan. 2. Last number of years there was always at least one conference game in the week between Christmas and New Year.

Yuch. ISU plays one OOC game during the Big 12 season (Big 12/SEC Challenge) and it sucks. These guys gear up for the conference race and that's where the focus should be. It's not bad for the fans but I had a hard time caring. Especially when it's an away game. jmo, of course.

Last year, this would have hurt Iowa. This year, the team should be much more ready to play early in the season. I don't have a strong opinion one way or the other, except it sucks that the B1G is doing it mostly because the B1G tourney is in NYC.

Mostly Off Topic. GO ASTROS!

Flip side playing Indiana in early December they may resemble Iowa of last year after losing some key guys and be better to play them earlier in the season especially on the road. About the only positive can take from this debacle Delaney put the big 10 in so a we can play Big 10 tourney games in a half full MSG.

It is because the B1G in their infinite wisdom decided to have the tourney in NYC at Madison Square Garden the week before the Big East tourney. Bad B1G decision

It’s a terrible idea, but I’m going. Hotels, flights, the tickets will be dirt cheap because nobody cares. I can do this one with everything included for half the price I do Indy.
