Not caring about politics

I get fairly involved on hbort. It provides a lot of hours of entertainment over the years. Outside of this board I spend exactly zero minutes talking politics with anyone. The exception being my wife and I watched some of the coverage of the assassination attempt.

I was at about a 7-8 last election but have dropped to about a 3 in terms of how much attention I pay towards it all, and how much I care.

The sky isn't falling either way, no matter how much the party you choose to follow tells you.

You should call your Doctor. Cialis may be right for you.

I care a lot less now that Joe has stepped away. I know how I’m voting and done worrying about it.

I will still read the threads and participate but I’ve been trying to minimize the arguing. I have been losing interest in otherwise good threads that get hijacked by a couple people talking at each other for page after page.

Yep. Time wasters…

Both parties are determined to kill the country via debt.

When all revenue doesn’t even pay the interest on the debt what happens?

It really doesn’t matter.

I don't know how posters here that post ALL DAY EVERY DAY can possibly be functional with anything else in their life. We got 6am to midnight posters here - that is absolute madness.

What's the saying? Too much of anything is bad.

I simply cannot do that. And I've had a handful of friends that have gone all in down the politics rabbit hole and every damn one of them is an absolutely insufferable person to be around any more. Everything's an argument - it's as if they need to vent the rage that such behavior ultimately causes.

That's no way to go through life, and I don't need anything like that in my life. It really is that simple for me.

Oh, and no X/Twitter, no Facebook, no Tik Tok...hell, no TV either - none of that shit for me. I choose happiness.

I can completely understand that. But on the flip side, if you don’t pay attention or care to what’s going on in the world, that makes you ignorant.

That may be fine with you. Maybe you see everything is out of your control.

I would like to think, if we actually tried to make this a better place to live together, we can make progress.

But I know I’m in the minority in that.

That's just it. I DO know what's happening in the world. You'd be surprised, even without for example the sources I listed above - how much news still seeps in. It's kind of like this message board. Just because I'm not posting 200 times every day doesn't mean I still don't read many of the threads. I simply choose not to participate in the vitriolic back and forth that social media and message boards tends to thrive on.

It's not about "not caring" about politics. It's about not letting it consume my life. I'm pretty firm in what I believe politically...arguing all day long is both not going to change those beliefs, nor be a positive contribution to my overall health and happiness.

Life's just too damn short...

Posting here all day is not what makes you cognizant of what’s going on in the world. If this website shapes your views on anything short of a good recipe, you probably need to get out more.

They all seem to be part of the ecosystem that is keeping this place together.
